Here's my September 2021 update:
ASSETS:
Checking/Savings: $155,458 House: $512.7k Retirement: $1.857M Brokerage: $5.5k 529s: $69.6k Company Stock: $214.5k
DEBTS: Company Stock Loan (to shareholder I'm buying stock from, at 0.52% for 7 years): $175k
Total NW: $2,640,514
As usual, the list above excludes our cars, which are worth around $30k combined, but I leave them out because we're unlikely to sell, and need them to get to/from work, kids schools, etc. in the land of suburbia.
And I'm with MPL this month - it's an "ouch" month with a down stock market over the end of August. We're down about $68k, or a little under 3% of our total NW since August.

I forgot to post in July, so the "previous" is from April 1, which is why the change is so big. It also means that I am only seeing growth on the numbers here, even though I know it's down from what it was at the start of September.

Glad I waited for a more favorable day for my October report . I haven't been including my ibond balance so stuck it in so I could get over the next 10k mark. Maybe lump it in with the Other category?

Hello everyone. My net worth is down mostly due to the stock market, and Zillow decided that my house is worth less than last month. Also, two big outstanding checks got deposited, so my cash and other debts balances both dropped. -movinonup Assets | 9/5/2021 | 10/12/2021 | Cash | $341,563.81 | $256,073.75 | Car | $10,000.00 | $10,000.00 | House | $475,100.00

Increase of ~110k for the year, not counting the hypothetical 37k increase in home value (the unit 5 doors down from mine just sold for 204k, so I upped my own estimate to 165k). I submitted my official resignation two days ago, and will be "retired" as of Nov 1st! I discussed all this with my supervisor last month, and transitioned all of my work to other people before starting a 5-week vacation the last week of Sept. I have 7 more days vacation, then just have to go in on 11/1 to turn in my equipment and go through exit paperwork. Such a relief!!!!

Woohoo! I'd be totally out the door if that was me. (of course, I'd cash in most of the Tesla first). I am totally reeling! This could be a quit your day job kind of thing. I need to process this over some time, see if this number sticks and what I'm thinking about in terms of quitting. Wish I'd made my initial purchase in my roth instead of the 401k rolloever, but I'll take the win either way. Or course - my expenses are much higher than yours! and I've got 6 figures in student loans, mortgage more than 350k, etc. Really concerned about upcoming inflationary pressures, etc. Still, I need to process this a little. it will surly drop a bit tomorrow. and I am ok with that!! Was hard to stay focused on my conference call. Did it drop? Did I lose my (.....wait....I'm going to say it!!....) multimillionaire status? But no, it was up even more! breaking through 1k/share....I'm practically hyperventilating. This is way too exciting!

I have always thought net worth is assets minus liabilities, so unless everything in your life is totally paid for, assets alone does not equal net worth.
Have I misunderstood since accounting 101?

I think that’s what most of us are doing to calculate our NW. Was this line of inquiry directed at me, TheOtherMe? I've been considering the mortgage and student loans basically as a wash with home equity, so I just stopped keeping track of that. Redfin puts my house at 562 right now - that is higher than it's been - mortgage of 350/360 or so and 102k in student loans. so I'd be up another 100k if I counted that, then I have another 100k that is still set aside for home improvements that I cash out refied this year but plan to spend so don't include in here either. I prefer to only consider liquid assets, but not money I plan on spending soon. I guess I'm doing it wrong, but computationally, it was a lot of work to look up and add up/subtract stuff I wasn't interested in tracking. I suppose I could start a separate liquid asset thread? seems redundant.

Well, I've had this mostly done since Friday stock close, but have been hemming and hawing for the past two days about what I was going to do about my mortgage. So now at 11:30pm the night before the autodraft comes out I pulled the trigger and changed it from the $1300 it's been at for years to $500. To be honest, I'm feeling pretty sick about that decision...mathematically wise or not. I'm still prepaying a tiny bit. Regular payment is $383. Other than that, it's looking pretty good for the month. I'm really surprised my cash and savings held as well as it did because I paid over 5K in medical bills in October, which basically wiped out my cash HSA. Mortgage - $80,790
CC debt - $0 Total Debt $80,790Cash and Savings - $52,720 529s - $69,619 Retirement - $795,036 House - $300,000 Total Assets $1,217,375Net Worth $1,136,585 (increase of $40,796 since 10/1/21)

It can be a rough journey with lots of ups and downs, celebrate the successes and let the the pitfalls wash off you back and carry on. You are getting where you want to be! some steps may not be as long a stride as you would like, but you are moving forward. Very close to your next milestone of 800k in retirements!! Keep your eyes on that prize, I hope we see it on your next update, or before!

Hello everyone. Thanks to Mr. Market, I got quite a bounce in my net worth over the last few weeks. My Other Debts dropped mostly because I was overestimating what I owe to my contractor. The bottom line is that I believe that my liabilities are more accurate on this update than the last update. I still use the Zillow zestimate for the value of my house, which is definitely low since my house is now over twice as large as Zillow thinks. -movinonup Assets | 10/12/2021 | 11/01/2021 | Cash | $256,073.75 | $261,896.30 | Car | $10,000.00 | $10,000.00 | House | $470,000.00

Very close to your next milestone of 800k in retirements!! Keep your eyes on that prize, I hope we see it on your next update, or before! Only $348 shy now. Of course things could go on a downward spiral starting tomorrow and I don't reach it for a long time. I hope I hit it this year though because it would be two 100K milestones in one year. I hit 700K in May.
