I guess I'm in the minority, but the tweets were really racist and offensive. Comparing black mothers to animals is what I heard, although I hadn't seen the original tweets. It was 6 years ago, he was 16, and he was posting extremely racist and sexist shit for all the world to see. People do change, but those are the exceptions. Six years ago was only 2013. The poisons of racism and sexism were well known and the trump train had not yet unleashed a resurgence of open racism. So - where exactly was his head in putting this out there for the world?
Next - he was in his 20's and begging for bear money? Then tried to turn that into something good, ok, but also making him famous for 15 minutes - so was his motivations all that pure?
At some point - if he "changed" he could have cleaned up his tweet history, no? So what epiphany did he ever have - prior to losing his 15 minutes at minute 7?
If he ever had a previous epiphany - he would have known that he had posted shit in the past - or he may potentially have posted shit in the past - and given everything going on in our world today, he never thought to clean that up or apologize or anything.
We know that racism is still very strong in the US right now. Do you all think that racism hits one's brain like a lightning bolt at maturity? Racism in teen years typically grows into racism in adulthood. People become more and more entrenched in their beliefs going forward, not less. They tend to see confirmation of this in the world and ignore disconfirming evidence.
2013 was not that long ago, was hold 16 year olds accountable as adults for murder and other serious crimes. I'm not sure what the rush to forgive this guy is all about. he didn't even ask for it until he losing out because of it.

He's 24 so it was 8 years ago. The "begging" was a joke just to get noticed on GameDay. He has a full time job and is a homeowner.
I guess I don't get the point of condemning him for something he did or said in the past because he now did something good, even if it started as a prank? Why try to find bad in people? Everyone has some.

Everyone has some. What the reporter had in his twitter account was stuff that was racist and homophobic and he was not a teenager when he posted that stuff. He was a young adult, like Carson is now. Carson owned up to it immediately and apologized. Can people not be forgiven? Lesson that we all can learn: be kind and don't be racist or homophobic. I am so glad that I didn't grew up in the digital world so that everything I've said can be used to judge me when I am an adult. I see a lot of racist and homophobic stuff on both Twitter and Facebook that are posted by adults.

Carson was not going to "lose out" over the tweets because he isn't keeping the money.

He probably has 10X the attention now. Yup, I see him all over Facebook today with people supporting him, I’m an Iowa fan though so maybe that’s why I see it more than others.

Carson is an Iowa State fan. He is all over FB today because he went to the game and was with the Kid Captain for the wave.
His fame will go away soon and he can go back to his normal life.
