We do this for every other holiday!
I bought a Boston butt to cook in the crock pot. I found a new method (elevate it on wads of aluminum foil) because it was too greasy last time. We don't have a grill any more, and I cook as little as possible in the oven because of the heat.
I am making all my favorite foods because I am basically cooking for one. DH won't eat it although he might try the carrots and mashed potatoes I am doing.
I'll freeze what is left over. I noticed today that I am eating poorly because I am only trying to feed DH, and I don't eat shrimp, for example. I'm excited about a real meal.
So are you guys cooking out or what?

Yard work. Pick up kids from train. Might have to put in appearance at picnic.

Maybe catch a movie mid-day and then brats on the grill + potato salad we made tonight. And a lot of prayers that the unofficial neighborhood fireworks and gunfire don't kill any of us. Watch the Boston Pops and Boston and New York fireworks on TV. Won't watch DC celebration since it's been politized.

I bought some awesome looking strip steaks will cook those with baked potatoes. We are trying to find a fireworks to go to but they start so late. Doesn't get dark till almost 10, we are all going to be dead. the kids want us to take little guy to fireworks, we never go anymore so this is pushing us. Will research and see what I can find.

We have a neighborhood thing: the kids decorate bikes and we do a parade led by a fire truck. Then there's a picnic lunch-brats, hot dogs, chip soda and ice cream., so we buy lunch there.
We also get the list of school supplies/pantry supplies the elementary school needs for the at risk kids. So usually that marks the beginning of taking an inventory what we have for supplies and what we need.
I don't know what we'll do after that-some house cleaning..I bought water balloons, so maybe some water play tomorrow. I wouldn't mind sitting and stitching for a while. I'll probably need to get some work done. The peanut has not been sleeping at night because DD1 is away. We won't do a lot because she is gassed. On an amusing note, I just got back from an evening stroll with the peanut and Miss M. The peanut said "What, tomorrow is the 4th of July? When is that June 4?"

There's still "A Capitol 4th" on PBS that trump has nothing to do with.

I’m making shrimp cakes with something......haven’t figured out what yet, but my fridge and pantry are pretty well stocked, so will figure it out.
I may try to convince TD to make a cherry pie.

I'm waiting to get the address for the gathering we are going to tomorrow. I also asked if my GrS and GrGrS would be invited. Sloppy Joes and what ever anyone brings.

Staying home. Will do hot dogs, potato salad and a salad. I got lettuce in my weekly veggie box and have tomatoes from my garden. I have a steak in the freezer so may do that with a baked potato with a salad instead. There is a neighborhood celebration and we may check that out.

Sleeping in until 7, eating breakfast then working around the property. I might also take a nap. My life can be pretty dull at times 😞

I know in the PNW lots of people do BBQ. I just can't be one of them. It's a work day for me. I only get christmas day off of the holidays.

Hopefully staying home and not getting talked into going to the 4th of July celebration/parade. One kid is in Boston and the other one is going to camp out at his Grandpa's farm tomorrow and is leaving at noon, so it will just be me.

Yardwork in the am. Grilling hamburgers, corn on the cob and potato salad. Then we’ll put a movie on downstairs and turn the volume up to drown out the noise. Cass freaks out.

We are going to die, our AC went out again. It was 92 today and high humidity. Right now its 70 out and 97% humidity. I'm sure we can't get anything done till next week. OH MY GOSH, this will be an oven. We have ceiling fans in every room and we can add more fans, but you just cannot combat that humidity. We have not had issues with this system till the last few weeks, I hope its not going to be serious. But it is 16 years old, house was built in 2003. And to replace it would be something like $20k, ouch.

I saw a poll on one of the news sites, it generally leans toward trump most of the time. But on the one asking if you were watching trumps 4th, 75% said NO. I was surprised.
It may be a mess, they said bad weather is supposed to hit up there and all kinds of far right protestors. They don't think many locals will come because its being politicized and DC is heavily against trump anyway. It could turn into a fiasco.

Ok, I am starting day at DN’s house for GN’s B-Day, then heading to MIL’s to watch fireworks with family & friends. I have two dogs, one is terrified of fireworks. I ordered 3 sizes of thundershirts from Amazon, have to decide on size, and if Zi should put one on second one.
DH said DS will borrow a Webber from us. DH should probably give it to him. We had five grills at one point.

I hope none of that interferes with the real 4th celebration in DC, "A Capitol 4th". It will air on PBS. I always enjoy that presentation. Is trumps fiasco being aired?

I believe the last time we watched a national fireworks parade or fireworks display was probably back in the 70's celebrating our Nation's 200 year Aniversary birthday celebration. Our families are way too busy celebrating in our own ways to sit in front of the television Now NYE we might be sitting at home watching it, but not on the 4th of July!

I bet you would have been the same way when JFK had Pershing missles in the parade. Wonder how many of you back then would say hell no, it is politicized!

My group of widowed church ladies are going to Cracker Barrel for dinner. All of us are alone, so it's always nice to get together to enjoy a special day. Of course, we take all advantages of making any day a special one.

Comforting Lucy during the fireworks and staying home. I don't eat meat so a traditional bbq is out for me. The big fireworks here were last night but there were still plenty of fireworks by my house during the time the big displays were still happening. It was be the same tonight and probably all weekend. Lucy didn't calm down until quite late so didn't do her playing with her toys for bedtime until about 1 AM. The law says the personal fireworks stop at 11 PM, but they don't and nobody enforces the law anyway. I don't watch fireworks on television. I've got stuff on the DVR to watch by evening.

So is BBQ for the 4th basically a Southern thing? Most of the nation does not consider Boston butt in a crock barbeque. Just sayin.... Barbeque is truly celebrated from sea to shining sea! If there is not a grill with maybe some hickory, oak or pecan wood/chips and either some great dry rub, or an old brush with family recipe sauce to put on it during the cooking process, some people would not be very happy. To each their own

I'm having my Grson and GrGrson over for food. I changed my mind on getting us invited to my DIL's sister's place. I asked what they were doing so I asked if we could come. I changed my mind since they didn't think to invite us. We will have a fun time anyhow.
