So, If Elizabeth is elected, will taxes on the middle class go up or not? The question Warren won’t answer: Warren was given four chances to answer the question she has thus far refused to directly answer: Whether her Medicare-for-all proposal would increase taxes on the middle class. The fact that she passed each time wasn’t surprising — she instead focuses on total costs going down for the middle class, including health care — but she did get pushback from across the stage, including from Buttigieg, Klobuchar, Beto O’Rourke and even gently from Sanders, who again forthrightly admitted taxes would go up under his plan.
I guess it depends on the house and senate. Unless we have thrown out the constitution all together, the president doesn't write the tax code. They can only suggest stuff to congress or veto what is sent to them. Although, it wouldn't surprise me if taxes on the middle class go up. The Republicans in the Senate don't give a shit about them.

I think she is smart to keep bringing up that this really is an issue of taxes + cost. that really is the issue, whether people can face up to it or not.

We aren't getting Medicare for all, no other option.
If we elect the right people we can get a buy in option.

single payer only is no better than private insurance, except in terms of cost.
the best systems are all dual systems. which is probably why the GOP never talks about them.

The Dems should talk about them more. Bernie trapped Warren into single payer only. She's gotta back away from that shit. Even a democratic congress won't pass it, so maybe we should stop.

Why are people so focused on what AOC says and does? She's one congressperson out of 435, and it's her first year. She doesn't have any power. Why? Because mass media continues to promote her every word and shove it down our throats every day and evening. It is not like most Republicans or conservatives google her ten times a day. She is shoved down our throats.

Just some thoughts on the Presidential race as of this month. As you know we winter in Florida. Our development is about 45% year round residents with a good mix of retired as well as families with school age children, the rest snowbirds with about 5 to 6% Canadians. This year as people are coming back, there is a pronounced difference in political views and attitudes. In 2016 2017 qnd even 2018 few snowbirds and permanent residents discussed a lot of politics amongst each other. Why, I am not sure......maybe did not want to ruffle feathers as everyone just wanted to enjoy the weather and restaurants and beaches etc. In 2019 as people arrive, they are talking politics. Surprisingly, I will say many are talking about Trump. Well, maybe not surprisingly based on media news about collusion and now impeachment. I will say people who never talked in 2016 or 2017 are expressing views now. I remember in 2016 if you were an avid trump supporter you were looked at with some concern by other residents..... Highlights are basically these topics.
Media is anti Trump and wants his scalp and involved in the Russian collusion push. Democrats after the collusion collapse will not stop at anything. People are not happy about secret investigations without some public viewing if you want to Impeach him. Socialism and open borders by every democratic runner is a no vote for them.
These views are not only from snowbirds but some of the full time residents. I was a Trump suporter and they knew it, but did not discuss with me then. They sure are now, and I am not asking anyone to give me their views. They bring it up to me. Surprisingly, the economy is not really talked about by most people. Some permanent Florida residents are turning to Trump after the O'Rourke gun confiscation fiasco. They like their guns down here. I am surprised at the openess of the political discussion here this fall. Since the snowbirds are primarily Midwest and a smattering of Jersey and New Yorkers, it looks like Trump is solid again in the midwest, and Florida. I admit Jersey is probably a no, and NY is definitely no.
I am now thinking Trump will not only win in 2020, but win big. Canadians, although they do not count in this discussion are basically not here yet. Most wait til November to spend their exact six months out of Canada....and for the most part would be democrats if they could vote here.

So based on the following, would it be accurate to infer that, in general, these folks think that... 1) Trump is a trustworthy honest fellow who is unfairly picked on by the dishonest untrustworthy media? 2) Trump did not collude, is innocent and Dems are just out to get him (i.e. a witch hunt)? 3) People think that since the investigations are behind closed doors at this point, they must be hiding something? 4) All dems are running on the platform of pure unadulterated Socialism and with no restraints whatsoever on immigration? Asking not to argue, but because I'm truly trying to understand how these folks think,

Dangerous to predict a whole election based on a fairly homogeneous sampling.
And I would suggest they might be more willing to talk about politics right now due to the nonstop Trump news blaring from every form of media, due to his cascading scandals. Like him or hate him, he's always in the news.

polling shows Warren leveling off, and Biden still slightly in the lead.
Bernie is all alone on the 2nd tier at 15%
on the third tier we have Harris and Buttigeig.
nobody else really has a chance, imo. they should drop out and thin the field.

And since I live close to Fl., not too far from Tallahassee....I hear things a LOT different. In fact, there was just a discussion in an elevator on Thur....7 adults, all registered voters...we all agreed...anyone but DT. So one little community in any state does not represent an entire state nor does it predict who will win. And BTW, it was a mixed group as far as color...black, white, brown & even 1 Oriental! And what started the whole discussion was a lady having a large plastic tote bag with President & Michelle Obama's picture on it...my DH commented and that set it off. Many visiting the VA facilities we have been to in the past year also do not agree with DT & will not vote for him...and he may have lost a few more with the stupid actions in Syria....he may have lost active duty, retired or just Veterans in general.

The opinions of the general population only seem to matter in swing states. No one gives a shit what I think, just as no one gives a shit what a republican in CA thinks.

There's only one way to win a Presidential race. The winning candidate must sell voters a fill-in-the-blank American dream- they have to have a vision for better future, they must help rationalize their failures, ease their anxieties and fears, validate their suspicions, and convince them of their solidarity with them against their enemies. You show me the candidate that can do that better than Trump- and that's the one that can beat him. That candidate is not currently in the race. I believe one will enter that will do this better than the current candidates- most likely Michelle- but it won't be enough.
The biggest problem for Democrats is that they've been wrong about Trump- and not just a little bit- a LOT wrong, and they've been dead wrong about some pretty critical accusations they've made. Four major investigations into Trump, including one that looked at the possibility he may be an agent of a hostile foreign power, turned up nothing. People see now that a cabal spied on Trump- not as part of a legitimate investigation, but as improper spying because he's their political rival. They've cried wolf too many times to count now, and as the hoaxes keep piling up, voters have begun to sympathize with a person who was once a fairly impossible sympathetic character. Frankly, people are tired of the bullshit. They want an alternative agenda that conforms to the above winning candidate formula- or, as with our "severe conservative" friend, Mitt Romney- they'll just opt to keep what they've got. It's working- might not be their version of ideal, but they don't have vision of their own. You gotta sell 'em one. And so far, no one's doing that.
In the meantime, Trump has become a known quantity. People see his willingness to be unconventional and to shake things up as more of an asset than a liability now. His unpredictability is predictable now- far less unsettling than it was initially.

Given some candidates get votes simply because they say they are pro-birth, I rate your first paragraph as false.

It took one month for the percentage of the population in favor of Trump's impeachment and removal from office to top 50%. It took 14 months for the number to top 50% in the case of Richard Nixon. Bill Clinton's number never even came close to 50%. Tell us again how public opinion is moving so overwhelmingly in his favor. The one good thing about you posting here is that you are the source of such wonderful, though certainly unintentional, humor.

If memory serves me correctly, you did not believe Trump had a snowball's chance in 2016. Nothing has changed for you.

I think it is that if you are surrounded by Trump supporters you think is win is inevitable and if you are surrounded by progressives, you think his loss is inevitable. Both opinions are wrong. It is hard to "hear" the full spectrum if you are going about your daily business.

Also, in 2016 DT only won the electoral college, he didn't win the popular vote...and more & more are turning away from him every day in this area...which is HIGHLY RED!

The opinions of the general population only seem to matter in swing states. No one gives a shit what I think, just as no one gives a shit what a republican in CA thinks. Same in New England...Same for those Dems who live in middle of country..life time red states... Why doing away with selectorial college and just have a popular vote is my preference for the Presidential office, most important of all our elections that citizens vote on...fair for all voters...probable even increase the % of eligible voters who actually vote. Since it would take I believe a amendment to the constitution...would take some time to work it's way around the country but would like party[most likely the Dems IMHO most likely] and would need control of both houses..and am sure the smaller States would go nuts against such a proposal...

People from all over middle America are now out in the open talking about the disgrace of the democratic party actions and can no longer believe in their party. Florida will not even be close in the Presidential election, and democrats are basically financially broke right now and will have to spend a billion dollars to win the midwest states as well as a few that they won in 2016. It ain't going to happen. Democratic doations to so many candidates running for the nomination have robbed the DNC of money and the money is not going to be there for their nominee to win so many critical states. The finances are going to look like 1964 when the Repuvlicans had Goldwater going against Johnson. It is going to be painful for some people here.
