Does anybody know if it's possible to view my 16 yo DS's credit report? My online search on the topic did not yield the desired results. I added him to two of my credit cards (Discover and Amex) about 6 months ago, and we would like to check if he now has a credit file with the correct recording of these accounts. Both Amex and Discover say that they ARE reporting this. Thanks!

I've tried and I don't think it's possible until they're 18, but Transunion (and maybe the other bureaus) will check if there is any activity on their SS number if you request it.

Yeah, that's the thing I don't really want to do if they don't give me any details. I would think that they come back saying "yes there is activity", leaving me wondering if it's from the two cards or something else (fraud). I guess we'll wait another 18 months or so ....

Because when you put in the birthdate yo verify identity it errors out for not being 18.

I dont think authorized user cards report. I didn't have to give DS's social to make him a user on mine.

Last fall I put my 18 yr old daughter on the car loan for her car. I'm making the payments, but I wanted her to start establishing credit (good credit since I'm paying it). This summer we are also going to get her a credit card with a low limit at the bank her debit card is at. She can pay that bill herself, but I will see if I can monitor it since I can see her checking account.
I'm going to get my 15 year old son a checking account next month since he is going to start working as well.

I don't know how they'd make the connection without that. I made my dog an authorized user once as a joke (and to get the extra $25 sign on bonus for adding an AU). 🤣

I made my dog an authorized user once as a joke (and to get the extra $25 sign on bonus for adding an AU). 🤣 Yes, I believe I had to give his SS# for both the Discover and Amex cards. Usually, CC issuers do report to authorized user's credit reports. I have confirmed with both Discover and Amex that they would report my under-age DS by sending them a secure message. I think the CC at his age has several advantages. First of all, it should build his credit history. And besides that, being in High School, he goes for lunch outside of school with his friends a couple times a week. Giving him cash every time seemed like a big hassle, and risky. A stolen or lost CC costs me nothing if reported promptly. Not the same with cash. Also, with the CC, I can follow online what exactly his spending was, and when. I got the two cards specifically for that purpose, and got good sign-up bonuses to sweeten the deal. Amex gave him a separate card number, and lets me set a separate spending and/or transaction limit for his card. Kind of a good way to teach him CC usage. Has been working great for 6 months now.
