I am so tired of people on Facebook, including my sister-in-law, posting pictures of the interiors of the Notre Dame Cathedral in Montreal or the Notre Dame Cathedral in Quebec City, Quebec, as the interior of the Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris. Do some research, people. What, all Notre Dames are not copies of the original?
( )
Hmmm, yet another plus of not being on FB?

Oh no. That is hands down my favorite cathedral of those i have toured. I haven't toured many, but I am glad I did see it. I really like the small chapel in Princeton which is much smaller than Notre Dame.

See Notre Dame never made me feel that way. St Peters Basilica yes, physically uncomfortable almost Ill by the gilded opulence... but not Notre Dsme... it didn’t have that effect on me. It was much more ‘modest’ in its splendor, sweeping architecture, felt reverent... Notre Dame felt to me like the heart of Paris, with so much history, both secular and spiritual, that occurred there. Kings and queens, revolutions, etc. It encapsulated the history of the city.
St Peters, while decorated beautifully, was 100% Catholic history, and since I'm not Catholic, it didn't have as much of an effect on me. It did seem like the seat of all the Catholic power in the world, unlike Notre Dame, which seems so - French.
I see it as an icon of Paris too. My old pics aren't as grand. Mine are mostly of the outside and I have pics from daytime and nightime. I love night time pics in general, so I helps me with warm fuzzies and might be why I don't have interior ones. I appreciate the beauty of old cathedrals, but prefer the more spare smaller ones. There are some nice old churches in NJ and I actually like when the stained glass and other ornaments are minimal.

Notre Dame is made of stone...... so the main structure remains..... including the flying buttresses and gargoyles
Its was repaired by the Victorians (or whatever the French equivalent of that time was) ... and has had a number of fires over the years. It will repair...... and if they cant get oak beams big enough they'll have to use something else. Its the heart of France ... and a sad day for the people..... but its not all over by any means.

Somehow, oaks from Normandy sounds very appropriate.

Just got a notice that one of our Museums is have a "learning lunch" next Wednesday. They do this often so that's not the news. They have made this one about Notre Dame. I've attended a few of the learning lunches over time and have enjoyed them. Will be doing my best to make this one since I will probably not make it to France to see the real thing. Slight envy of those who have been! Ok that's it

Apparently the current worry is rain. Paris is supposed to get rain/thunderstorms and they're trying to get tarps over the cathedral.
