Or do you think most people are more concerned with what can be done for them right now?
Honestly I think that people like to think they care about future generations, but then turn around and wonder what can you do for them now.

I don't have a future generation, so no, I don't give a crap about them. Our forefathers left us in debt, so we should do the same for the next generation. Let them figure it out!!!

Sad to say, in my community, I would say people really don't care about the next generation. Elections here include votes on funding for the schools. Our district has a lot of seniors in it, who unfortunately tend to vote against funding for the kids (I guess it doesn't matter that the previous generation helped put their own kids through public school.) No bells & whistles here. I dread the day that the class sizes get up to 40 kids per class. We can't compete against other nations academically if we don't make sure our kids get a good education. (Not everyone can afford private school for K-12.)

My father would take care of my grandmother without much help from his 5 other brother s and sisters. She commented one time "How can one woman raise six children and six children can not take care of one woman? That door swings both ways! I think it has more to do with how people are raised. Respects

PI, I was not being facetious. The Greatest Generation lived too long and stuck us with the bill. We should do the same to the next generation. It is the great American way!

Isn't that mentality what got us into this mess in the first place. Somebody has to change that trend. Unfortunately the transition will not be painless, and it is a matter of what generation will be willing to step up to the plate and take the hit.

PI, let the next generation step up to the plate. Now that I am old enough, I want mine!!! Don't worry, we won't live as long as the Greatest Generation - they gave us too much stress. So the burden of the next generation will be less.

That's why the Greatest Generation was the Greatest Generation. They survived the Great Depression. They fought & won WWII. They had probably a crappier youth than any of us could imagine, but didn't whine about it, and went on to build a strong country. I grew up in a neighborhood where most of the parents (including mine) were Greatest Generation. Every one of them had a good job (all middle class), most had a cabin out on a lake somewhere. They were proud of what they had survived & thankful for what they had right now. And, none of them was afraid of "getting their hands dirty" to achieve what they wanted.

They were proud of what they had survived & thankful for what they had right now. And, none of them was afraid of "getting their hands dirty" to achieve what they wanted. I really never got the whole "Greatest Generation." Every generation has their own challenges. Every generation seems to think that the generations that follow them are somehow different and less "tough." Wasn't it the "greatest generation" that started taking SS without actually paying into it for more than a few years (if any at all)? I would have thought they would have thought something about future generations, but they were no different than any other generation in this aspect of not looking to the future. As far as not being afraid to get their hands dirty, there probably wasn't much choice since many people didn't graduate high school. Decent jobs could be found with limited experience and education. Now it seems that jobs which did not require a college degree 15 years ago, now want a degree without actually paying any more in salary. I am not downplaying any accomplishments that occurred during that time, but it is a different world now; so I don't really buy into one generation being so much better than any other.

Actually, I think it's the politicians who have been "on the take". We may vote them in, but once they're in, they do as they please.

What good does it do to have no debt if you end up with an ignorant generation with no education or skills and unhealthy with a lack of nutrition and basic preventative health care? We are NOT as bad of now as we have been in the past as far as national debt... and we survived it just fine.. we need to INVEST in innovation to pull us out of this... its what business does all the time... we need to INVEST in our future to build our way out.... not cut everything that could lead to ingenuity and growth....

The generation right after mine needs to be in good shape - hard working, educated and stuff. I need them to keep paying taxes so I'm good in my old age - but after I die, I suspect I'll stop caring.

After 50 years of federalized education. i got out just in time, and I have skills and proper nutrition education(my Mom taught me, cause she prepared our meals)

We don't have enough of the great unwashed yet. That is why we let the illegals in, to supplement the ignorant, uneducated folks.

Do people care about future generations?
Most of us who are Grand Parents do care, we care a lot and are worried a lot about when our grand kids are adults...check out the cost of a college education in @ 15 years, and cost of living then..

Georgia is trying to do away with college grants.....that should do wonders for improving our education and for competing with other countries down the road.....

That is why we need to cut education funding and repeal child labor laws. I don't understand why you keep bringing that up. There are many, many unemployed adults who should be working. We don't need to employ children...that's lame dissimulation.

Georgia is trying to do away with college grants.....that should do wonders for improving our education and for competing with other countries down the road..... There is a legitimate argument that government programs have actually increased tuition cost. Instead of helping make the same tuition rates cheaper, colleges just built it into the cost.
