Maybe a Republican Senator should demand a clawback with the new tax regulations for the billionaires since they received a tax cut in 2018 and make it retroactive to 2013. Changes in tax law is just that. A change in tax law. When they enacted the Child tax credit, why not make it retoactive for six years? Our government just does not work this way, nor should it. Taking the effect date back multiple years is just not right.

For a period of time, the Federal government granted a tax break to all couples who were married under the laws of the various states except if the married couple were of the same sex. Allowing these couples to file amended federal returns for the years they were legally married under state law does not seem unreasonable.

About 8 or 9 states and D.C. legalized same-sex marriage by the time DOMA was overturned. Add to the fact gay/lesbians make up 3-5% of the total populations of those 8-9 states and D.C. and not all of those people got married before or even after DOMA overturned in 2013. Those who were married in states where same-sex marriage was legal prior to overturning DOMA were allowed to file their state income taxed jointly. It's estimated the cost would be $50 million or so. Pocket change to the U.S. Why the cost could be recouped by trump making fewer golf trips to Mar-a-lago and any of his other properties.

Going back nine years is not a long time. The next state to legalize same-sex marriage was Connecticut in 2008. Going back 5 years is not a long time.

My problem is it can set precedent. Everyone will claim a clawback everytime the tax code is changed. Dangerous idea. The government will never be able to manage the balance sheet when everything is in flux and changes the rules for everyone on a whim. (Yes, I know no one is worried about the government balance sheet and income matching expenditures other than people on this board)

I am not a fan of the proposals by Warren and Sanders to cancel student loan debt. Obviously it needs to be addressed, but just cancelling it out altogether hurts the people who were responsible enough to pay off their loans, or not attend. I didn't go to college because I couldn't afford it when I was young. I tried going back in my 30's when I was working full time in a good job, but it was just too much to handle with work hours and travel. So here I am at 39 with no college degree. I chose not to go because I couldn't afford it, and I have struggled a lot because of it. If I had known I could just take out buttloads of student loans and not had to pay them back, I could have a degree right now!

I demand the average student debt number be given to every person who could have gone to college but could not afford to, be reimbursed for said amount! This includes me, and after 1 1/2 years I dropped out. And then I was drafted and sent to Nam. I think I deserve to be reimbursed for the job salary I lost here in the states minus the $105 a month I got in the service during the next 21 months! C'mon Bernie, I thought you were for the little guy!

Simplistic arguments for simplistic people. it is manipulative nonsense.
basically, this tool is either knowingly or more likely unknowingly conveying crap. and he is doing it because he KNOWS that MANY people will find it convincing. because they don't know thing one about economics and taxation.
but I do.

Okay, we survived CNN'S hilarious ballot circus drawing last week. Even CNN moderators pointed out afterwards CNN blew it in the fact all the people of color were placed in the second night's group Evidently at least one moderator felt a person of color should not have been left to just the luck of the draw.... Anyway Bernie and Warren are on the first night's group and probably will not be able to efficiently attack Biden like they intended to sine he is not there to look like a deer in the headlights. Harris and Booker will be book ends attacking Joe with racist claims, thus propelling Elizabeth Warren towards the nomination. Now we have to wait and see who Warren picks as her V.P. choice. How about Joe Biden signing up for the gig?

i like Tulsi Gabbard. she is the only candidate that is non-interventionist. but she is grasping at straws, as a 3rd tier also-ran, imo. hopefully they are not embossed with the Trump logo.

I was taken aback by this article. Harris is as good as anyone else and better than some that are there in my opinion that is up there. By the way, That is not a slam by me.....

Is it one of those "attack one of the leaders, get your name on the news" scenarios?
I saw a CBS profile of Tulsi Gabbord. She is way cool. I don't know much about her politics, and I haven't heard her name mentioned much as part of the pack. But now, she has said something scandalous and we all be talking about her. So, forgive my suspicion.

CNN'S Democratic debate started out with diatribes about Trump from everyone's opening remarks, which was not unexpected. Lately the "regular democrats" on the podium are knocking the stances of Warren, Sanders, Mayor Pete, and O'Rourke, and explaining if you go their route on climate, taxes and health insurance, you lose to Trump. The four of them say go big and win, but in reality they will go big and go home after the election.........Right now they have forgot about Trump and the evil Republicans and are attacking each other. Good news for Biden. He is nonexistent in the conversation tonight. Warren might be holding her own in her responses but I think Bernie might be getting whacked at the knees tonight. CNN seems to be holding everyone in place for the most part, and everyone seems to be sharing the stage equally as far as time on the mike.

The other obvious fact is everyone stayed away from how the green new deal, healthcare for all, decriminalizing illegal border crossings, free healthcare for illegals, etc, and what the final price tag will be was never asked by moderators or explained by the candidates espousing these programs.
