"Good thing it isn't Walmart, then this would really be bad news..."
The corporations aren't evil. It's the system, the Pub default system they are run by. Starting in 2014, all corp's will be lifesavers. Soon they'll even give all people a living. Because Dems will make them. It's called modern civilization. The Greatest Generation isn't around to have morals, nor unions, so the gov't has to protect the citizens from the bean counters...

"I'm a bit younger than you, but I remember when teens could legally work certain jobs (like farm work) with a work permit issued by the kids school."
Teens can work just about any place they want to under current laws with a work permit. From 12 to 14 there are lots of restrictions, from 14-15 less, and only a few for 16 and 17 year olds (no demolition, roofing... I just read it yesterday, man my mind is going... but stuff like that)...

Go here Paul: data.bls.gov/pdq/SurveyOutputServlet I'm not sure how the chart will default, you might have to change the perameters at the top so you can see all of bush's years. Download or cut and paste into an excel sheet. Sum all of the month on month for all of Bush's 8 years and you will see its 1898... 1.8 Here is one source on public vs. private sector job growth... you can find others if you look www.nytimes.com/2008/02/09/business/09charts.html"IT is not exactly a distinction that he had in mind, but seven years into his presidency, George W. Bush is in line to be the first president since World War II to preside over an economy in which federal government employment rose more rapidly than employment in the private sector."

The facts continue to be NOTHING like Pub propaganda. You're funny, dude. You'll just lap up anything as long as it's posted by a fellow "librul". You'll make a great Democrat, don't worry...

I suppose this isn't particularly surprising. It's really Bush that Tee'd up Obama with this kind of (lack of) leadership.

One of the main problems for teen workers is the competition from non-english speaking people in this country that get these jobs and work them for 20 years. Since there is less turnover from young people moving on it makes it tough on American youths.

And if the amnesty fanatics in both parties get their way, I would not be surprised that if most fast food places required an applicant to be 'bilingual' just to get a minimum wage job. Remember when 'candidate Obama' said that we should all learn to speak Spanish?

I just say, no habla Espanol.........and leave, unless it is a good Mexican restaurant......

While this is good news,I don't think we can survive on all lower paying service sector jobs. We need a good manufacturing base, imo.New R&D investments into new areas are the answer. Most of the new jobs being created today are lower end or temp, jobs with no or poor benefits. If the trend continues,we can expect to see the end of employer provided benefits in the not too distant future.

Um, the main problem for teen employees has nothing to do with the non-English speaking people in this country that get these jobs, it's that those people WORK. There's less turnover hiring immigrants who are supporting themselves, and working hard trying to move up than there is from lazy American teens for whom a job might be until they can buy an XBox or because their dad told them to.

Interesting that these 50,000 jobs got created after McD's got a wavier from Obamacare.

Or perhaps it is a publicity stunt, doing it all in one day,but still reaching normal summer hiring numbers----"LOS ANGELES (Reuters) – Fast-food chain McDonald's Corp (MCD.N), trying to grab positive headlines in an economic recovery still struggling to create living-wage jobs, announced on Monday that it would do all of its spring hiring in one fell swoop. The world's biggest hamburger chain -- which for years has wanted to stop the use of "McJob" as shorthand for low-wage, dead-end work -- said it plans to hire up to 50,000 new U.S. workers on April 19. The jobs range from restaurant crew to managers. Janney Capital Markets analyst Mark Kalinowski told Reuters that the announcement "certainly seems like a way to attract some favorable publicity around something it was more or less going to do anyway." McDonald's said the hiring blitz would increase its U.S. workforce by 7.7 percent to 700,000 -- which is no different from prior summer staff increases. "Our total hires are similar to past years, but the goal of hiring 50,000 people in one day across the U.S. is unique," McDonald's spokeswoman Ashlee Yingling told Reuters. Oak Brook, Illinois-based McDonald's said in a statement that its April hiring event is an opportunity to highlight that "a McJob is one with career growth and endless possibilities."~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
