I almost want one. I leave town about 8 days a month and in my old house would be broken into so come home to trouble. Now better neighborhood but would like to see my house while away. My nephew said not to get ring because he doesn't know how to install.
He will get me a Alexis thing for my birthday. I didn't want one before but now as a single elderly I worry about falling and with it I can ask it to dial my nephew and he can come over or call 911 for me. I don't need it to play music or Google things or turn on or off things but as a personal safety thing. He said not to buy one because almost my birthday and I am hard to buy for.
Amazon had a bundle of ring and window sensors and dot, 14 things for $226 but he said I don't need it.

Yuck! At least you'd know, so could disinfect it.

I am staying at DD2's while they are away. When I got here, I entered the code to unlock the door and came in. I dropped my bags and headed for the security panel. Before I could get the code entered the alarm went off. OMG! It was so horrible! The alarm was so loud I couldn't tell if the numbers I was entering were being accepted (I couldn't hear them beep). I kept entering the code. Finally, a woman came on and was verifying my information, so she could either cancel the alarm, or send the police. As I was talking to her, my phone (left by the front door) kept ringing. DD2 & husband kept calling, to be sure everything was okay. It was so horrible!
I could never be a robber. 😖
On a positive note, the alarm system works!

My ex had offered to let me stay at his place in Denver while he was out of town when he found out I was visiting. I set the alarm off. Yes, it was so loud I couldn't think straight.
I had the same experience in that I couldn't hear if the numbers were being accepted. I did get the alarm company called and they did not call the police. However, a neighbor had called the police so I got to explain it to the police and they walked around the house.

Because of my experience, I don't know that I will ever stay here again and take care of their pets. Even though I want to help them. For me, it was too upsetting.
--> I will never get a security system like this, based on my experience.
*I'm so glad I knew the answer to their security question! My daughter said they disarmed the alarm remotely (phone), but it didn't shut it off here.

My daughter said they disarmed the alarm remotely (phone), but it didn't shut it off here. I had to give the alarm company the kill code. That is not the term my ex had called it. I knew where it was written down and read off the code and said is that it and they said yes. I did stay there again but in the guest room when he was home. We just lived separate lives since I was spending time with my friends. I had a security system years ago. I got it after I was broken in to and burglarized. This was back in the 1980's. The police came so fast when I called. They told me that the guy who had broken in during the day and shut my mouthy cat in the half bath had an m.o. of coming back and raping women and that I had been staked out. They checked my front door and, yes, it was not completely closed. I came in through the garage. The police said they would watch until they caught him. My neighbor was great. It was in the summer and no air conditioning. He told me to scream and he would hear me. The police called a few days later to say he had been arrested. Sadly he had raped several women in my area of town. When I got my bank statement, he had cashed several checks on my account. As I'd already filed a police report, I had to fill out forms and the bank reimbursed me. The weirdest part was that the police said if I had any underwear in my laundry to be washed, it would be gone. Yep, there was no underwear in my dirty laundry.

toomuchreality The scariest part was I am 99.9% certain that I was in the house while the guy was in there. I came home for lunch that day and noticed a couple of things were not where I thought I had left them and the cat was in the half bath with the door closed. I let him out, ate lunch and went back to work. Cat was shut in half bath when I got home after work. It did a number on my head for some time.

Our Ring devices came via FedEx yesterday when we were not home. I thought it was kind of funny that they came in a box very clearly labeled what they were - so advertising that something pricey was in the box - and the FedEx guy put them front and center on the doormat, so very obvious. Luckily they were still there when I got home - but how ironic if the cameras we were buying to prevent theft got stolen before we got them!
