Again, I've said it before, and I'll say it again. Many of those retail/ service jobs really suck, for anyone trying to make a full time wage. They are low pay of course, with no benefits, and no sick time. They are very part time as you point out, and they often demand availability at all hours- day, night, weekend, holiday. Someone has to cobble together two or three of them to get a full pay week, and that means time for travel, down time between jobs, etc. Job schedules often change week to week, and are often posted with little notice from week to week. Low pay, stress, no job security, no margin for error, and no backup. .....and no healthcare.

Tax the Rich. Feed the poor. Till there are no poor no more. And the budget is balanced. Yep. Look how many black professional sport players, singers, and entertainers who are going to get hit with the 70% tax rate after $10.000,000. so, let's see.
I am making $10M taxed at 35%. that is $6.5M take home. then I pay 70% on my next $10M? my take home is $10M.
I think I can live with that.

Tax the Rich. Feed the poor. Till there are no poor no more. And the budget is balanced. Watch for these groups to start implementinging employments contracts with long deferred years in the contracts topping earnings in the ten million dollar range. that is stupid, imo. for three reasons:
1) the tax rate might go even higher during that time span 2) inflation is gnawing away at those dollars every year you wait 3) you should be able to make at least 10% on those current dollars, if you are a halfway decent investor.
this reminds me of the guy that drives across town to save a nickel per gallon on gas. 20 mile trip cost him $3-4 in fuel, $5 in vehicle wear and tear, and whatever his time is worth per hour divided by 3. how much does he save? 50 cents.
this scurrying around in the present moment to save money in the future is a fools errand.

Again, I've said it before, and I'll say it again. Many of those retail/ service jobs really suck, for anyone trying to make a full time wage. one of my missions in life is to create opportunities for musicians that are outside of retail.
reason being:
1) retail jobs, especially foodservice, directly compete with performance and rehearsal schedules 2) creative people should be paid for being their authentic selves, not for being some smiling customer friendly phony 3) all of the reasons you stated in your post
I hired the most talented musician I personally know. he works the sales desk at my company. he can take off whatever time he needs for his gig and touring schedule.
I am working with a second young lady paying her piecework for vocal samples. that way she can continue working in theatre and dance and sell me the work that she makes when the mood inspires her, rather than getting sexually harassed working at Starbucks or the supermarket.

Yeah, plus you get to jam with them. Win, win! i also get +1's to shows, and if i need someone to help with a piece, it usually comes for free.
