Did Turbo tax last night, federal refund $120 and state refund $8. We’re waiting a few weeks to submit to ensure we have all documents.

My employer unexpectedly deposited an extra $100 into my HSA as an incentive reward for completing a health questionnaire, putting me over the 2018 HSA limit. Having completed the exact same questionnaire in early 2018 and already gotten one reward for the year, I thought that this next reward would be deferred until 2019. That would be a no.
The representative for the HSA administrator assured me in early December that they would not do my final payroll deduction of the year for the HSA contribution, because it was obvious that I would be going over. Well they did.
So in late January, I put in a request that my December 28 contribution of $100 be returned to me to lessen the penalty. Hasn't happened yet.
I am still waiting for an amended HSA statement. I have almost everything else except that.

Federal refund is in bank account.
Filed on January 28. Refund in bank on February 5.
Now I wait on the state refund. I could not file the return until January 31.

My last form won't be ready until the 15th I need to close that account or lower my withholdings. I'm getting impatient for my refund. LlamaLlamaDuck that stinks about the HSA error by your employer!

Mine have been "done" for a long time, but I haven't submitted because TaxAct is pissing me off not letting me count my older son for the state education deduction. It makes zero difference to my refund because the increase in tax by not being able to deduct the 4K is made up for with just being eligible for more of the non-refundable 529 contribution credit. But it just bugs me that it's not accurate. Turbo Tax handled it just fine, but they want to charge me $40 to file.

Still missing a few 1099's as well as wife's social security statement. I received mine a week ago, so looks like her's is lost somewhere, or someone else received it in the mail We are still missing too many items to file, but have put the deductions together, and not sure we have everything yet. We are at $29,200 in deductions so far, and will start plugging everything in tomorrow to see where we land..... Sold some stock where the broker does not give me my orignal cost, and since we were always in the drip program, it will be a major pain trying to get correct cost, but know there will be capital gains to figure out.

As I said in the other thread, HR Block software won't let me e file because the IRS is not accepting one form yet. Next update is not until Feb 15th. I don't think I can file with the state until I file with the feds. I'm getting a refund from the state and would have liked to get that started.

If you look at the forms view of whatever form it is that you need, it probably says something similar to "Not Approved for Filing".
I was able to file the federal first and the state a few days later. I don't know if you go that far in the software if you could possibly file the state return first.

I surprised myself by filing our federal just now, as I usually put it off until March or so. We are getting back a little more than we did last year ($770 vs. $850) BUT I adjusted our withholdings last spring to take out more taxes to offset the new tax bill (estimate showed a bill of $1500) so I consider it a wash. More effort on my part (nagging hubby to fill out a new w4), though.
State and local will be file in April, as always.

I checked and it is a stupid business income worksheet, and we really have no business income. However one REIT reported a dividend in such a way that it ending up on this form. The software will not allow me to advance to e file the State return until the federal is done.
Frustrating because although we owe feds we are getting much more back from the state.

I remember doing those calculations for capital gains and I had every trade confirmation and statement. It seemed to take forever! I am very glad Fidelity does all that for me now.

Last I heard, the person responsible refuses to correct DH's W2 form.
The higher ups are aware but I'm frustrated and impatient.

Very frustrating. I wasn't sure if you could file the state before the federal. I had to wait on the IA Schedule A since most people who itemized in previous years also itemized on their federal return, so a copy of the federal return was sent to the state. Now I can't itemize so had to wait on the form.

Success at last. Update available today and both federal and state are e filed. For the first time ever, I charged the amount I owe to the IRS. They charged a fee, but it's only 1/2 % more that my credit card rewards. So for a couple of bucks I put off paying for a month or two.

I am relooking what I thought I would get, depends on a couple of things, I will see what happens. Going to go through it tomorrow, I think I have all my forms. I need to call and set up an appointment for maybe next week if they can. I understand taxes but I do not understand what I am seeing on the LLC tax return part. I need to read more, I like to understand what I'm doing. The basics I get, but I want to know how the detail happens and there is a lot in there. Mine all boils down to the LLC part.
We may end up getting nothing, since its estimated it would be just what I put in anyway and likely will let it carry forward to next year if I overpaid at all. I owe state and a penalty because I have paid nothing, will change that next year also.

I got my federal refund a couple of days ago. State will probably take another week or so. Either way, I'm just glad to be getting a refund, rather than having to owe!

We got 1099's on our RMD's but I still need the overall tax statement from Merrill Lynch that shows dividends, interest, etc. And I need the K-1 from my investment club which I should receive sometime in March. The good thing is that the club prez is a total &*%#@ about getting the K-1 before her CPA appoint which is March 13 this year.

I made an appointment for Feb 18th so hope they get them filed on time and know if I owe more this year. That's all I wanted to know last year is where we are at.

Frustrating. Don't amend the return until the first return processes.
Once the return has been transmitted, you can't get it back. It's gone.

According to TT will owe around 5K for the Feds, not sure how much for the state - was expecting this as we cannot take the SALT deductions any longer. I had them deduct extra from my paycheck, but looks like that is not enough.
We made more than last year and paid higher taxes, but still owe. I guess it is what it is. I will have to start looking into how much we need to start deducting to at least not pay so much. I am ok with owing 1-2K which is what we usually do.

Finished mine up today, getting the same amount back as last year. I was surprised as I figured I’d owe this year due to the tax law changes. I was also surprised that we used the standard deduction, that’s a first for us.
I don’t think I need to change much for next year.

Entered a number of things into TurboTax and it shows that $304 back from Federal but owing State $5. I have extra forms though so I'll just pay the $100+ to H&R Block to make sure shit is correct. I don't want a repeat of last year.
