DH is the shopper in our house. I have to be careful to not say that I want something because he then goes on a search for where to get it cheapest but good quality. I made the mistake of saying I'd like to replace our stereo that was damaged in our move. He's spent four weeks looking at stereos. He found two he liked, but I don't want to spend the money on them. He's put that on hold for now, but I know that someday a stereo will show up at the door. are we married to the same person? This is my husband too. I'll make a minor suggestion like: we should look at replacing our garage door maybe next summer. 2 hours later he's emailing me links to a dozen different new garage door options and wants me to call someone to come give us an estimate. I'm like "No! next summer as in months from now!" If I'm being honest- I love the man- but my husband did my biggest blow to our budget. He's getting way better but he's the spender in our relationship. Has been for over 20 years. He'll forget to measure what size piece he needs for something. So he'll buy one in half a dozen sizes because "they only cost like $5 each and I'll return the ones I don't need" but he'll forget to return them and two years later I'll find a home depot bag full of misc. parts to something that we don't need in the back of a closet or in the garage. Plus he gets a obsessed with the dumbest shows and will buy them (Always the HD version) on Amazon by individual episode. I try to explain that often it's cheaper to buy the entire season up front and that Bridezillas does not really need to buy viewed in HD. $2 freaking .99 per episode and I'm pretty sure at this point I own them all

I have a core set of things that I wear that consists of 5 pair of pants, 5 sweaters, a handful of long sleeve shirts to go underneath as it's cold at work and a pair of ankle boots(Fiorentini and Baker). I may buy more boots this year- found a fantastic boot store an hour away and there are some good brands made in the US, including Justin and Lucchese. Not all of them are US-made but I buy only the ones that are. I spent $1,100 on clothes last year but $750 of it was footwear (including a couple of pairs of Birkenstocks to replace 2 pairs that were worn out). I have enough freebie T-shirts to last the rest of my life (some are from events 15 years ago) and being retired, that's what I wear around the house. My riding boots were made by DerDau in Brooklyn, NY.
My paddock and barn boots are from Ariat....probably made in China and don't last as long but are made well enough to withstand all the dirt and wet on the farm.

Hadn't heard of DerDau- will have to look for them. My boots have never been near a horse and I keep them out of dirt and wet- especially the ostrich boots! I'd have different standards for boots that are going to get rough treatment.

I need to be part of that support group. My husband is definitely the spender in our house. He has been clothes shopping quite a bit and now has more clothes that he has hangers. I've just stacked some of his shirts on top of the dryer and told him that he needs to weed out his closet ( a walk in closet) to make room. His response was he just needs more hangers. I seriously doubt he could get more hangers in there at this point.

He still has way more clothes than I do. He's philosophy was always to buy more hangers too. I now have like 50 extra white plastic hangers sitting in my closet. Want me to send them your way

I guess this makes me #6? Bigamy anyone? Last night, TD opened up several boxes from Amazon of things he had ordered. I knew he was going to buy an ultrasonic cleaner for jewelry, but I had absolutely no idea he was going to buy a knife sharpener. We have the exact same sharpener that my dad bought me for Christmas awhile ago in storage - because he liked to sharpen knives himself. When coming back from the airport, I was using his phone to play music in the rental car. As I was going through his albums, I realized he only bought 5 or so songs off of each one. So he paid $1.99 each for 5 songs (or $10) but could have bought the whole album for $8. But the one thing he will not buy is clothes. We went on a 25 day vacation, and he took his entire closet - which was 2 pair of pants, 2 pair of shorts, 2 t shirts, 2 collared shirts and 3 pair of underwear/socks. His Tevas are embarrassingly old and broken apart and when he was wearing them in FL, my friend mentioned it to me. I had to tell her that I had to stop talking about it to him because it pisses me off to much. Then he complains that the worn straps cause him blisters! He ripped the sleeve on one of his 2 shirts badly and because he didn't have another clean t shirt to wear, he had to wear the torn shirt on the cruise.

My husband's downfall is board games and Starbucks. I should seriously make a "rule" that he has to play each game 3 times before he can purchase the next one. And for Starbucks, I kind of want to set up a bet for who can go longer - him without starbucks or me without work cafeteria.

My Hubs told me on Saturday that he was going to go through his games and sell/get rid of the ones he doesn't want. My god the man has hundreds of freaking board games. They are everywhere and I swear they are breeding and multiplying at night. Random boxes show up and he tells me "oh, I kickstarted that one a while ago". His bestie owns our friendly, neighborhood game store. I know he plays games but A. there are store copies he could use and B. all of his friends game so he is frequently buying the same game a friend has and they do this "should we play your copy or my copy" dance. Sooo.... that being said is your husband in the market for some new, slightly used (often not even used) board games because have I got a deal for you (in a couple of weeks after the Hubs goes through his games)

I'm not even going to think about my budget in 2019-2020. I have a lot of house projects that were deferred until my sweetie retired. Unfortunately, DH passed away before we could start on those projects. DH was very handy and could have done a lot of things himself. Me, not so much. The first project is replacing the asbestos-tainted insulation in the attic. Even after a rebate from an asbestos removal fund, the total cost is about $5,500 for my 1,200 sqft house. But the updated insulation will prevent ice dams and reduce heating and cooling costs. Which brings me to my next spring project - new furnace and air conditioner. The current ones are about 40 years old. I don't have an estimate for those yet, but, again, it will help with heating and cooling costs. Then I need to put gutters on the house. Hopefully new gutters will help with the water issues I have in the basement, but I have the feeling I may have to do more than that. And landscape. And do a major redecorating in the house - carpeting, window treatments, painting, wallpaper, etc. In 2000 we did major exterior work on our 1957 home - new windows, doors, shingles, replace 2-car garage with a 3-car garage, etc. But we didn't touch anything inside the house. That was supposed to start this year. Sigh. I have no idea how much all of this is going to cost me. I seriously thought of moving, but I really, really like where I live. And I do have the money saved for these projects. It's just a lot at once. I'll look on the bright side... when all these projects are done, I'll have the house I really want.

Sooo.... that being said is your husband in the market for some new, slightly used (often not even used) board games because have I got a deal for you (in a couple of weeks after the Hubs goes through his games) Kickstarter is the culprit at my house too! And our local gaming store moved from 10 miles away to 3. And DH sold hundreds of magic cards and chose the store credit -> $950 worth. I shudder at what the magic cards originally cost us to be worth that much in resale. Plus, the stupidity of having that much store credit in a totally unreliable store of that kind that could go belly up at any moment. Alas, I was way too late in that argument. And your copy or my copy happens at my house too. As does, game X is just like game Y only they changed this part -> really they are the same game, they just got your money twice. Along with, I don't understand why you will never play games with me. Um, my idea of relaxing does not involve spending an hour learning the nuanced rules of some game that I never expect to play again followed by 1-3 hours of actual game play. Or the excuse, at least I'm not playing poker - yeah that might actually be cheaper and would rotate houses instead of every week in my basement. No, definitely not interested in more games - runs away screaming.

azucena Twins, they are twins I tell you. He spends thousands every year on board games I just know it. Plus he'll decide everyso often he needs to get back into a minisgame and buy all of the crap needed for that. Then he'll want to paint his models, sohe buys fancy paint brushes, paints, special glues, sealers, etc. Then 3 months later he'll decide he doesn't have time and pay some guy to paint his army. A year later they've stopped playing and started playing a new game so the process starts all over again.
We used to host a winter party every year called "The Gathering of the Geeks". We paid to rent a place, it was a big pot luck but we did all the sodas, plates, main dish, etc. and 50 of our friends would come and game for hours. He asked about it this year and I said "No, I want to take a year off". He was shocked and I explained: It's not fun for me. You show up, commandeer a table and game with your friends for 6 hours. I do all the cooking, prep, set up, clean up, etc. Plus I make sure everyone is having fun. I help entertain the kids. Get them set up with games. Clean up spills, etc. for 6 hours straight and it's freaking exhausting and I have zero fun. Thankfully he's agreed to take a year off or at least put it off until Spring and decide.
The more I think about it the more I realize that if I were single I'd be rolling in the dough. He's getting better but I really try to not focus on all the money he's spent over the years on hobbies that get sold on ebay for pennies on the dollar.

You can pay people to paint your models? I had no idea and hope DH never finds this out LOL. What is the point in that? Isn't painting it part of the "fun"?
Have to pick up kids - will respond more later. thinking you, I and ctc (and others) need to have a gaming vent thread in WIR.

Yup- depending on the store there's usually a couple of lurkers/fringe guys that will paint models on commission. It's such a freaking scam. Whenever our friend (J) that owns the store owes the Hubs for something he'll offer him store credit instead of cash. Which the Hubs jumps all over because hello he can buy crap without me finding out. I've explained to him: Ok you paid $200 for J's ticket to go to nerdy star wars convention in Chicago on your credit card. J paid you $200 in store credit. How exactly do I mail store credit to the credit card company?
GRRRR.
But yes- I'd be game (see what I did there) to having a gaming vent thread on WIR.

I didn't realize we had a bunch of sister wives on this board. I am not in the market for a hubby but if I bring California red, can I come to visit please? That should be fun. After the snow is gone that is, wherever you live → I don't do snow <brrrrrr>

My late husband just had to have a new DSLR camera, cost $650. He promised me this time would be different and he really would go out into the woods to shoot pictures of stuff. (his idea was that I had to go along, sit with him and bring the thermos of coffee). Picture taking never happened. But wait, there's more....the new camera computer type stuff wouldn't work with his old printer, so we had to buy a new one that would also print all the pics he had take, cost $400. But wait, there is EVEN more: He just had to have Photoshop so he could really learn how to do all this nifty stuff that his camera, printer etc. would do, Cost $200. Alas, even after all the new stuff, he had to have a new computer to handle all the other new stuff he bought, cost $700.
I believe he took a hand full of pics, printed a few of them but never got around to learning anything about using Photoshop. Eventually it all landed in a drawer, and when he died, the camera went to a neighbor and the rest was tossed out.
He was my spender in the family.

Definitely entertainment. We love Cirque shows. I just saw a touring one near us this year. It could be my birthday thing. Of course you have to pay now. And two good tickets are $234 after fees. I did not buy them.

My riding boots were made by DerDau in Brooklyn, NY.
My paddock and barn boots are from Ariat....probably made in China and don't last as long but are made well enough to withstand all the dirt and wet on the farm. My riding boots are all Ralph Lauren. I've never ridden a horse, but I've got some nice boots.

Concerts used to be my weakness, specifically Paul McCartney concerts. If I could have back all the money spent on tickets, airfare, rental cars, hotels, merchandise, etc. my house would be paid off.
Good memories but so expensive in the scheme of things.

We may still go but I'm not buying them now. I'll wait to see if any deals come up. We are trying to limit non essential spending right now.
Most of our stuff is local but we still have ticket costs.

#1 I failed to take myself out of the High Deductible Insurance plan for 2019. I have $$ budgeted for the deductible in my HSA, but 1) mentally that should be invested for retirement, and 2) My DS is 25 and my DD 21, neither is really a dependent on our tax return, so technically I should not use HSA $$ to pay their medical expenses. I just paid for glasses for both of them last year - I figured it was the last pair I would buy for DS.
#2 DD is in college. Tuition, Rent, miscellaneous expenses. We pay off our second mortgage and one of our cars in November. I just have to get through this year.

Well, I think DH read my post about the stereo! Turns out he hadn't given up, he was just determined to find one less than $100 to meet my limit. He found it. It arrives 1/16.

Basically boots for me are equipment/tack. MPL....you can weigh in here as well
