I just opened a Capital One 360 money market account that pays 2% on balances over 10K. This is something I have been wanting to do for a year and finally took less than 30 minutes to do it and set up the transfers. For some reason I am terrible at making any real financial changes/decisions and I procrastinate for no good reason. Now just need to tell DH where our money is in case something happens to me . I've been using this account for several years and the 2% interest is awesome! This has $$ for my rental house and for DH and my Emergency Fund needs. I like that you can add memo's to each deposit. So, I've also allocated any "fun" money from "monetary" gifts to this account and have it labeled so I have a record. This is a great idea to get this started.

That's what I was going for sealy, you are doing well and deserve to give yourself credit. It's hard work, and can feel heavy but it is very worth it. Keep your heels dug in and this summer you will be so glad. How long is the "summer gap", when you are without a check?

I paid off my personal bank loan and Best Buy. I must have been really tired last night. I didn't even notice that I spelled Best Buy wrong. I'm just happy to be back to ground zero. I only owe Discover, taxes (I'll send them a check on April 1.) and my truck.

shanendoah[Q1]: $8,944 3/13/2019 (Goal: $300 3/31/2019)
First quarter of the year is almost done! I'm not really certain where the time has gone, but it's time to re-evaluate our spending now that we're getting into the new normal with the new house. And based on that budget, I should be able to squirrel away around $800/month. About $500 of that dedicated to car maintenance (or saving for a new car, as the current one is a model year 2006), $100 toward general savings, and $200 toward our 25 year anniversary trip to the Canary islands in 10 years. However, that is pretending all of our spending is only current spending. But at the end of March, we'll still have $3,238 in debt (on a 0% card), that I have a plan to have paid off by the end of October. I talked to my lawyer's office this morning. At the end of the month, I should also be getting about $4,800 returned from my retainer, now that the case is over. But we still haven't bought the sectional we wanted (and I can no longer find it at CostCo.com).
So here is what I am thinking, April through October is 7 months. At $800/month, that would be $5,600 in savings. If we subtract $3,200 from that, we get $2,400. Averaging everything out, my goal will be to put $340/month into savings for Q2 (I'll re-evaluate again for Q3), along with $2,000 from the retainer, as soon as that comes in. That will leave me with $2,800 to go toward a sectional. We had hoped to pay less than $2,000 by going through CostCo, but that might not be possible.
So, Q2 goal will be $3,020

Finnime2 $1500 3/16/2019 ($5,000) I had a burst of income so was able to get a jump on some savings. It looks like my income may steady out now with a couple of bursts expected. Then I can even out a plan. Of the House category I'm earmarking $1000 for a new dishwasher, as ours is over 17 years old now and just stopped draining.

Update from a non-saver ... I took 1950 euros out of savings to pay off my half of our 3900 euro rental reno loan (DH paid it in Nov). So savings were hurt, but that loan is now GONE! DH won't have a final settlement from his accident for at least a year, more probably 2. But there was a hearing last week, and the judge was on DH's side. After 7 years that was very good news. DH will be getting an advance on his future settlement. I will also be getting a small settlement. We should get that money in 3-4 months. We are NOT supposed to touch it, because there will be an appeal (which DH is supposedly likely to win). So my settlement money will go straight back into savings. We'll know more when we see DH's lawyer next week. My settlement is not a big sum, but it's more than the 1950 euros I just took out. So I'm considering it a win for savings.
I'm so impressed at all your progress! You ladies (and Carl) rock!

I didn't play cards this weekend, but that was sort of on purpose. I still have a $100 bill from that casino night a few weeks back. I wanted to put that in the jar and take back change.....but I don't have enough small bills or large enough cards to to that for one week. going to hold off and double up next weekend. I may knock off a couple numbers in the 30s or 40s. 😁

Chiver, just play cards now. Just do it. It's never easy, but it doesn't get easier with age either. If you have a 10 or 20 in the jar, take that out. If that's not enough you can always take more from an ATM. Feel free to ignore me if you want. (But I am your Jewish mother, whispering in your ear LOL.)

Well, damn it. I guess I'm in again. I'm too OCD to not track it on my own anyhow, so might as well transfer it over here.
Basically my entire Fed/State tax refund and my 2018 FSA reimbursements went to fund the uber important one (the survival fund) and filled the high school savings line item. I don't see myself being able to do much more than minimal monthly to the rest for the remainder of the year because my 401K contribution rate is set so high, but who knows.

You can take me off this list now. Sorry I think I missed a month or two. To say life has been crazy is an understatement. I have managed to cry to people on the phone twice now telling them I don't have the time right now. Please wait until after April. Yeah, deep in the meltdown. Borderline depression from just being plain time overwhelmed. Been there before so at least I know what to look for. Anyway, you know how they say when you are young, you have energy and time, but no money. When you are an adult, you probably have money and energy, but no time. When you are old you have money and time, but no energy. We are basically in the have $ but no time and no more energy. I hit my savings goal by inheriting $80,000 from my abusive estranged father. When the number was only $30,000 I was going to give it all to my mother. But the bigger number seemed stupid to give up, but mom still needs it in her retirement. So I created a payment method to mom so that I can use the $ now for my house downpayment, and she can receive it slowly like an annuity. I set up an automatic transfer of funds to her account. Every month she will be getting $266. That is a 4% fixed annuity. I happen to like the 4 percent rule, so I simplified it. Don't worry about mom. She never officially divorced him because she was afraid to see him again. So in the end, she inherited the bulk of the pot because she was the widow She's using it to buy a condo with cash and then use her SS for everything else. (I know- but she is averse to any type of debt, including a mortgage) It's tight so I want to make sure she isn't feeling the pinch.

y'all, the three largest cards have been played, BEFORE I got my annual bonus payout (well, it's a little different this year, but still...)!! I put the $100 bill in the jar this morning and took back everything but the $1 bills, so there was a net addition of $55 for this week and last. I played a pair of Jacks - spades ($11) and clubs ($44) to make the numbers work. chiver78 3/22/19 $208/$910

Well I had my taxes done and owe money for the first time ever. Luckily it is under $90. I have now adjusted my W4 so this shouldn't happen again. I am just holding off until April and will than pay.

this is also the first year I've ever owed, but thankfully that number's only all of $3. it could have been way worse, if my salary had been where it should be, but I took that pay cut to go to the train wreck place super close to home. so I guess they were good for something? this afternoon, I went to a dive bar where a friend of mine had picked up a bartending shift, to watch some college basketball. they have Keno there, so I threw in for some games. $1/game? sure, it's something else to pay attention to. well, I won on the first ticket of 10 games, so I re-upped....and won again. sadly, the 3rd pass didn't pan out, but $200 for $30 going in isn't awful. (if I'd lost the first $10, that was going to be it). I got a $100 bill the first time, the second win was smaller bills. so, the $100 bill is going into the jar NOW, in front of the cards and separate from the rest of the cash. I just won't count it for my savers total. the other small bills will be my spending money this week. woot!

I play a lot more than the average bear, too. I grew up playing cards with family, when extended family would come to visit, that was just what we did. so I absolutely am into card games at casinos and the like. in all honesty, if I didn't win much, I wouldn't still play. I'm still ahead in the overall, so it's still fun to me.

Deposited $325 into savings from DH's paycheck. Did some initial estimates of my gross and net bonus - trying to figure out how to split between savings, retirement, and specific spending. Azucena 2/15/19 $325 of $25,000 goal (1%)After paying off vacation charges from last week, I was able to put roughly half of my bonus into savings. I also sent a significant portion to fulfill a church pledge for a new school building. Azucena 3/25/19 $10,495 of $25,000 goal (42%)
