Good morning and happy hump day WIRSavers! Thanks seriousthistime and all my WIRFriends for your support and encouragement! It was a squeaker. I did an update that totaled $19973. It nagged me to be so close so I pulled up my account and transferred $27 to periodic expense account, and edited the post. I don't think I'd be anywhere near this if not for WIR$avers, and previous time spent on the WIRRacer board.

I also am motivated by reaching whole numbers! Posting this month's numbers a bit early since all monies are in place. This new total is a milestone for us because it represents a year of expenses, something we have never had set aside, and it feels really good. Will be minimal gains the last 2 months of the year with Christmas spending and other annual bills. Thanks to all on this thread, the monthly posting and reading about your goals has helped me with stashing more money. Need to consider what we are doing in 2020!
10/23/19 Update: Plugginaway22: $41,813 (goal $36,000)
brick bank $8,001
on-line bank $19,426
credit union $14,386 Total $41,813
HSA balance $13,900

I want ya'll to know how much you've sunk into my brain. As I have been planning November credit card payments, I've been looking at our spending for the year and starting to work on putting together a budget for next year based on this year's actual spending. It all works, with $620 left over each month. Which is great, really great, actually. Except that my savings goals say I need $730/month. And so I've been staring at the budget and trying to figure out where we can spend less.
Mind you, this is all with the mortgage payment taking nearly 50% of take home income. So really, we're doing good. But not as good as I want....

With my new and improved accounting system, I am willing to put more into savings when it is sitting unneeded in the checking account...... Crossing into 4 digits and up to 6% . Although current projections have me needing extra money for December student loan payments, and even more for January student loan payments, I can try to economize between now and then on general spending (food, etc.) and/or hope that the RI sidegig comes through as expected and/or I get a raise or something......Again - I seem to forget about Christmas expenses! I didn't hear anything about EOY or xmas bonuses at the job last year - but I was very new and maybe there is something but I wasn't eligible. I wasn't eligible for the performance eval COL last time, hopefully - will get something this year! But for now, will put this extra bit into the savings account and hope not to need it come Dec and Jan student loan payments!

Very bad update. Saved savings 8000 (goal 10,000, was originally 10,000). I had to use 500 for rental property taxes. This money is my share of DH's accident settlement and it really upsets me to use it for bills rather than something "special". Maybe I'm just being silly. I do know that money is fungible, it's just that it goes out a lot faster than it comes in lol.
Maybe I need to change my goal for "saved savings" to 5000 or 7500 instead of the original 10000, to be more realistic/less ambitious? Or else 9000 to have something realistic to strive for (not going to happen this year)?
I should start replenishing that account at the end of this month because both salaries will kick in, but it won't be quick. I also wanted to give up a class next semester because I have much too much marking. But seeing these numbers, I'll probably just bite the bullet. ETA: Some good news, profit sharing this year. I am going to take that money and put it right back into my saved savings account.

Minnesota I marvel at all that you accomplish as a single parent household! Kudos to you, what an example for your kids.

Ending the month pretty much breakeven for savings - maybe down a hundred bucks or so. November is a 3 paycheck month, so projections are good. Will be cutting it close to meet my $25k goal by yearend, but will buckle down and give it my best shot.

I have a appointment with a contractor next month for possible work on the kitchen! Hope I don't get "vibes" or anything. This is from a personal referral and I have seen the work that they have done which was really good.

Child support is done in 9 months, starting middle of next year I'll be having to spend down savings. I'm going to have about 30 tough months and it could be REALLY tough if my company doesn't get up and running again pretty soon!

At least that's what is being conveyed to all the customers. We are prohibited from saying the "v" word, but 60% of our company's 1500 PCs are toast. So far we've been down 2 weeks and it's just a freaking mess, EVERYTHING we do is on the network, so nothing is working. Production can't run, payroll can't get our hours, heck even our phones don't work. I think this could to be very bad news for us for a long time.

Home, waiting for a doctor appointment later this morning, and how do I fill my time? Tea, and savings numbers. This has been a very busy few months, with a lot of moving pieces. <--Something tells me I say this EVERY time I do an update. The exterior construction is done. We did end up getting a new driveway, as well as paying for new sod for the ruined areas of our lawn. Neither of those two expenses were factored in for this year, so our cash savings were VERY low, and have only started getting replenished as of this past week. I wouldn't say we were at an all-time low, but we were pretty close. My father has swapped out our kitchen window for a larger one, and it makes a HUGE difference! We lost a large cabinet, but he's also given us 3 good sized floating shelves, and there's a rough coat of spackle on everything in the kitchen right now. My job is to stain & finish the shelves. We'll eventually prime the patched areas, then paint to match the rest of the kitchen walls. It's not so much a money sink, as it is finding the TIME to do it! (And the energy!) A new sink, counter tops, and tile back splash are part of the plan, but are scheduled for NEXT year. My husband got a very generous (and unexpected) raise at work, we are most definitely in a new tax bracket now. In doing the test calculations for our 2019 taxes this past week, I realized that once you make a certain amount of money, you can no longer deduct contributions - even into Traditional IRAs. (I knew we wouldn't be able to do Roth IRAs, just didn't even know that limit on the Traditional IRA even existed). We've never been in this situation before (never even close!!). That was a nasty shock, and we are going to end up PAYING the tax man a LOT this year, unfortunately. We don't have the time (or the liquid cash savings) to money into our 401K equivalent. Come the 1st of 2020 though, we'll do that, but I think we're screwed for this year. When I get frustrated over how much we'll end up paying in taxes, I remind myself that we did a ridiculous amount of big ticket stuff this year, mostly related to the house (we've decided to stay where we are, and are no longer planning on moving). We wouldn't have been able to do even half as much of the work we got done, if not for my husband's new job. I'm not complaining (okay, maybe a little bit), but I do know that this is a very nice problem to have. I need to start educating myself better, and find a financial advisor. We're obviously reaching the outer limits of my money management knowledge. While I didn't really start out planning it to be this way, 2019 was the year of big spending. I've already charted out our paychecks and big bills for 2020, and 2020 is going to be the year of savings. Bulking up our Emergency Fund, saving up the full repayment amount on the construction loan I took out, and maxing out our retirement accounts through work (which should also serve to drastically reduce our tax bill for 2020). We still have 1 child in full time daycare, but she should be going into pre-k next fall, which will be an additional savings of several hundred dollars a month. By mid-May, even those smaller accounts that have lingered empty for far too long (Car Repairs, Vacations, Christmas, etc), should be getting some regular deposits, and by this time next fall, I'll have a good chunk set aside for new kitchen counter tops and the tile back splash. For ONCE, I'm going to wait until we have cash-in-hand, before starting a project. We will be cash flowing Christmas this year, with a bit of a buffer, so it should work out fine. For once, I have a LOT of ideas for my husband - too bad several of them are $300 or more, each. Ugh. And, his birthday is 4 days after Christmas. Wish me luck keeping things small, and reasonable for everyone on our list! I send a ridiculous number of Christmas cards - this is the first year I've included Christmas cards, photos, and postage in my Christmas budget! Alright - I will stop there. Stay warm and dry everyone...

For security savings, I held the line again. It is nice to have something put away.

Saving4Norway 11/5/19 $3,400 (Goal $4,000) Yes, I've over-contributed my goals at the end of the month. But, don't get too excited, I may have to end up giving myself back some money if I can't make ends meet each month. I'm currently doing OK with my extremely tightened budget but I never know when I might implode and go on a spending rampage.

The ironic thing about it is that my spending rampage would probably be at the good ol' Goodwill.

I need to develop a plan for a measured release of pressure!

Snapdragon 11-07-19 --- $ 16,288.94 / $ 16,500.Car/House $ 3502.53 / $3500 Savings $ 4063.45 / $4000 Travel $ 4499.76 / $4500 Lasik $ 4223.20 / $ 4500 New Totals $ 16,288.98 / $16,500 Property Taxes $ 1123.75 / $2250 --- are going away due to the fact I can't win. When I am close to 100% I need to pay my property taxes and that drops me down. After playing this game for a few years I am not going to add them to my totals. I will still track them but I won't include them in my savings totals. They will go to the same place I have my car/house insurance tracking.
