"Feet selfies"? What in the world is that? They take pictures of their feet? That's what he said they do. 8th graders. He said it's supposedly the latest thing.

What I'd give to to only have 100 students. My max is 185. DH's max is 210. Where we used to live, my range was 140 - 185. Where we currently live, my range is 125 - 145.
He'll adjust to learning all of their names. He can use scratch paper and have students make trifold name tents. I will admit that I'm super good at having names memorized by the end of the second week. I do recognize that not everyone is as skilled at that task. I have lots of areas I'm not skilled at, so don't worry there. Encourage your son to keep building positive relationships with students. He can talk to them about their feet. Put funny stuff on his own feet. But, he needs to maintain consistency with the rule. It will make the kids more frustrated if he's inconsistent.
Teaching is the best. Keep giving him kudos. He's my nephew, not my son. I'm guessing he knows their names and I know he knows the names of the kids he is coaching. He told me some of the things that he has been doing in class with the kids. Math class. Fun things to help them learn. It definitely isn't the way math was taught when I was in 8th grade over 50 years ago. I think I'd learn more his way. I know he learned a lot about consistency working with the troubled kids. You lose their respect immediately if you are not consistent. The feet selfie thing happened in home room. Because it's a rural school, they have home room at both the beginning and end of the school day. The bus kids arrive a little later and they leave a bit earlier. But, as he said, they still have to follow the phone rules in home room. The vice principal happened by and heard part of it. He said the last he saw of the student that morning (after this happened), she was with the vice principal. Vice principal had been told she lied to him. Don't know if she's a problem kid or not.

Thanks for all the love on the quilt! This one is a gift so I hope to send it off within a few weeks.
I decided the theme of my next quilt and went through all the pieces I have and sorted them. I have about 60% of what I need so I joined a swap group so I can get a greater variety of fabrics.
Busy week this week with an event over 3 days. I stopped at the grocery store tonight so I can make my breakfast and dinner easily.

Home renovations are such a pain - and unfortunately, we are just in the beginning stages. Started taking out living room carpet and pad, over 1/2 done. Called about lights ordered a few weeks ago and some are in (not all). I'm going to stop and pick up the kitchen lights, because we need those to layout the location then we can have the ceiling drywall installed. Started cleaning out cabinets in kitchen. I have a lot to take to Goodwill this week. Put some items in recycling. Next cabinet to clean and pack up is the desk area. I need tasks that I won't break a sweat because I need to continue progress between getting home from work and running to soccer games/practice this week. Ordered all the flooring last Friday. Made final selection for the countertops and sink. Need to pick a faucet and make final selection on the trim throughout the house. We have decided on the baseboards, not the trim around windows and doorways.

ohmomto2boys renovations really are such a pain, but I'm sure you'll be thrilled with the results! Our "new" kitchen is 3.5 years old now, and I still get a thrill walking into it! Rare long day today, now doing laundry. I was offered one more professor class, so 3/4 total. I'm stopping there.

There is another bag of stuff in the trash for tonight. There will definitely be several more before I need to bring boxes up from the basement.

We finally finished getting all the floor joists in the attic "sistered" to be able to support the weight of activity up there. Now we can start installing the plywood floor. It's going to be so much fun lugging 80 lb pieces of plywood up these stairs! I keep telling H I want this attic reno completed before Christmas....... it's looking less and less likely though. I need the temps outside to cool because the attic is 30 degrees hotter right now. It's just too hot to work in. But I am so tired of looking at stairs with plastic tarp stapled in front of them.

I did a pane and one complete side of another today. The one I'm working on has 4 panes of glass, getting all the old shellac or stain or whatever it was is a pain. I have maybe a half hour left to finish stripping it. But I have maybe 30 more minutes to finish it. then it has to be painted on the outside with one white coat of paint. Then glazed, then after that dries a few days painted again and the other side stained. They will be good for years, especially on the outside. I think they have likely been painted twice since 1910. I'm sure it was lead based or it wouldn't have stayed on there that long. The old glazing just fell out of the panes as I stripped them.
Ok, one more full size one and 2 window frames. Then on to the kitchen windows, they are smaller and newer. I think they only have one coat of paint but looks like they are losing their glazing too.

nikiz628 I'm not clear on where you live, but unless you're in the south (I don't think you are but I could be wrong) I'm sure those temps will fall soon! *POOF* Hugs Knee Deep in Water Chloe . I'm sure there's a good reason you are doing not one, but two full-time jobs. I just can't imagine what that reason might be. I really hope it doesn't go on for too long.

I'm sorry debthaven Yes, there will be more turnover with more people. That is the way it works. DN1 was telling me yesterday that so far this semester he's had only two students with crazy excuses for not doing well on an exam. The exams in this particular class are open book and not during class time. DN1 said if they come to the lecture and read the one article a week they are assigned they should easily do well in the course. All except these two students are. After just 3 weeks of class (meeting two times a week), one emailed him that he had probably noticed that she had been absent a lot. There have only been 6 classes and, since he doesn't take attendance, he doesn't know if she hasn't been there. Apparently, she didn't do well on the exam. Another student told him the answers to the exam had not been in the lecture or in the articles. However, 48 other students did very well with the test.

debthaven - I am in Indiana, where mother nature is currently not aware that fall begins in a week and is giving us temps in the upper 90s.

Sheesh, debthaven, what a PITA. I hope they get the bugs worked out soon. I'm still catching up on paperwork and laundry from being out of town. Hopefully, in another day or so, things will look better around here.

I poofed my vent. And guess what?! There IS something wrong with the system, so they told us to give the students an extension ... as I had suggested. This takes the pressure off. That assignment is now due next week, AFTER we get back from the UK. I do have 17 papers to mark but I can do that on the ferry.

I've finished all the items on today's to do list. It's cleaning week so there are things that I have to do.
I've created a monster in starting to feed Lucy wet food. I'm so glad I feed it to her in the late afternoon/evening.
Today she started in about 1 PM wanting to be fed. She's been sitting right where her dish goes, staring at me. She's got a couple of hours to wait.
She is not starving. She has a bowl of kibble and fresh water. She prefers the wet food now.

The wet is better for them and they like it.
I did good work in kitchen and laundry room they are back to back and the laundry room has a wall of cabinets too that are full of anything and everything. I moved a black plastic tote of stuff out of the top cabinets and can likely do the same in the bottom. I have a tall cabinet full of mostly cleaning supplies, and again odds and ends only used now and then, doubt I can do much with it. Then I moved some of my appliances I don't use daily in there. I got rid of 2 trash bags of odd and ins of stuff, little bags of crackers, just old things like that. Just moving, stacking, and organizing helps.
I have to go paint stair rails at a rental when I get home from the doctor, or prime the first coat, after scraping, they don't have a lot, just 4 X 4 posts and top so hopefully won't take long. Hubs got the deck all stained, 2 coats. This makes that place nice again, we still need to put new laminate in the kitchen and bathroom, may be next year, but we will get it.
Then back home to do some more in my kitchen. I actually have clear countertops again. I am so guilty of buying all kinds of new cleaning supplies so I have way to many, need to use them up.

I'm sure there's a good reason you are doing not one, but two full-time jobs. I just can't imagine what that reason might be. I really hope it doesn't go on for too long. Thank you. The condensed version is that another employee in the school district screwed up badly--like civil litigation against the school district badly and criminal prosecution for a student partially due to poor school management badly. The school administrators involved were moved. I was involuntarily transferred to "fix" the building. However, I was only relieved of one-third of my original job. So, I had a job I could easily get done at a decent level in 50 hours/week. I had one-third of those duties given to someone else. I was given another job that takes at least 60 hours/week to do at a high level. I was directed to work on certain parts of it first and save other parts for later. That means about 40 hours/week for the new role. That means at least 55 hours per week to do an average-quality job. I detest being average with every fiber of my being. I've been trying to keep it under 70 hours per week. That's been going on since the beginning of August. I do like both roles, but they're so different that I can't over lap or combine anything. It's definitely a first world problem though.

The main room is nearly devoid of anything that I won't be trying to sell on Saturday during my indoor/outdoor yard sale. Tonight and tomorrow night, I will further stage it with small items that I'm selling because, right now, it's just furniture in there. Friday night, I'll take pictures of everything and post it to FB yard sale pages and Marketplace to drum up traffic for Saturday.
My roommate decided he's not going to buy the bed he was sleeping on BUT says he's found someone else who may want it. The roommate moved out on Tuesday to save up the last little bit for his apartment. I bear no grudge about it. It's expensive to get together first, last, and security deposit on $11/hr.
Whatever the fun, I expect quite a bit of stuff will be out of my house in the next week, either through selling it this weekend or taking it to the thrift stores.

Removed all but 3 upper cabinets in the kitchen. DH is going to start the wiring for the undercabinet lighting. He is also going to add additional receptacles and switches in a couple places. DS#2 earned $20 last night. He removed the flooring in the dining room (cheap lock together stuff) and carried it all outside. He was so excited. He can't wait to help with the other rooms to earn more money. Tonight I want to finish removing the carpeting/padding in the living room. Then I am ready to paint the ceiling and crown moulding in that room. Closed on our HELOC this morning.

Great progress nidena and ohmomto2boys ! Knee Deep in Water Chloe that's crazy. How long will you have to do both jobs for?! Please take care of yourself! My work week is over. (I don't teach on Fridays.) I'm doing laundry and I need to pack. It's going to be a crazy weekend (about 24h of travelling but 1/3 is on the ferry.) I changed my 8am Mon class because we get home at 1 am on Sunday. Thurs/Fri am - purchase goodbye treats for DS3's office/Thurs
- get suitcase from basement/Thurs - prepare passport/Thurs - laundry/Thurs - prepare papers to mark/Thurs- email DS3's medical insurance papers/Thurs
- sort mail/Thurs
- order DS1 birthday gift/Thurs
- order DDIL birthday gift (1/2, I have to actually shop for the other)/Thurs
- deal with 50% of my emails/Thurs
- Shitepile!/Thurs
- pack I've begged DH to straighten out the desk (his mess) because I don't have time. I'm still feeling overwhelmed despite working 2-3h/week less than last fall semester. I'm hoping it's because of all the recent guests and this upcoming weekend away. Hopefully things will calm down after this weekend. I also have Fri morning.

All done except for packing. I still need two more gifts, but I won't have time to get them before we leave. Which is REALLY dumb, because they'll need to be shipped to the UK. Oh well.
We have to pick up DS3 from his job, which is in a good shopping area. So I may be able to get one before we go. If not, it'll wait.

Thurs/Fri am updated- pack/Thurs- order gift DDIL's brand new nephew/Thurs
- pharmacy/Fri - BD gift DDIL? I'm packed! I took a majority of sweats/casual clothes given the ridiculous amount of travel time. I did pack a pair of nice pants/two nice tops/a dress for meals with DH's family. I also forgot that I need to go to the pharmacy tomorrow, so gift shopping won't happen. BUT I sent a gift online to DDIL's sister for her brand new baby! One less thing to shop for in person! DH spent more than 15 minutes, so the desk is all cleared up!
