Go for it!!!! It GE still paying dividends? If so, that could off set and losses if you decided to sell . It's actually getting back into the day trading prices as some of us did during the .com era.
on edit: This is scary though: We need to bring the leverage down," GE CEO Larry Culp tells CNBC. General Electric GE 's Chairman and CEO Larry Culp said Monday he feels the "urgency" to reduce the company's leverage and will do so through asset sales. GE shares fell 7.3 percent in trading Monday, slipping below $8 a share for the first time since March 2009.

They kept the penny payout to a penny because some mutual funds only hold stocks that issue a dividend, and they wanted to stop more forced selling from the funds.

Well, a penny won't off set selling at $7 share will it? Back in 2008 I took $3k and bought Halliburton, and a couple others I don't remember. It only took a couple of months until I sold everything at a profit. I've not had the courage to do that again. Not sure either what my FA would say, but thinking it would start with "WHAT" Could be fun to watch GE though. Just sent FA a text...I'll post what his response is. FA response was: We're not going to buy stock in a company headed for bankruptcy.

I wouldn't buy their stock now that they reduced the dividend so much. Going to a penny also maintains their status of paying a dividend every quarter for umpteen years. I bought them at $5 per share at the 2008 bust and sold them a couple few years ago at a nice increase. I agree with BG's FA.

Some analyists say they have a huge debt payment coming due and they do not have the funds on hand, but might have bank support to pay the notes coming due. Think I will wait a few weeks to see what happens. Price is not going up anytime soon, imo.
