Rand Paul Mocks Newt Gingrich: ‘He Has More War Positions Than He Has Wives’ Potential GOP presidential contender Newt Gingrich has been in hot water lately after ThinkProgress caught him flipping his position on the Libyan war rapidly over the span of just a few weeks, indicating that his positions on foreign policy are more driven by politics than principle. Last night, Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) spoke at the Congressional Correspondents Dinner. At one point, Paul referenced these flip-flops by Gingrich to criticize both his politically driven foreign policy positions and his infidelity to his wives. Paul also poked fun at Fox News, saying that it is having a hard time deciding what it likes more, bombing the Middle East or attacking President Obama, in deciding its opinion on Libya:
PAUL: I was happy to see that Newt Gingrich has staked out a position on the war, a position, or two, or maybe three. I don’t know. I think he has more war positions than he’s had wives. [...]
There’s a big debate over there. Fox News can’t decide, what do they love more, bombing the Middle East or bashing the president? It’s like I was over there and there was an anchor going, they were pleading, can’t we do both? Can’t we bomb the Middle East and bash the president at the same time? How are we going to make this work?
Watch it:

Now, I ask you...without FOX NEWS, where would we see coverage of this debate? Would there even BE a debate? (Maybe it was covered elsewhere, I don't know- I've given up on "elsewhere")

Last I checked, it was Mr. Nobel Peace Prize himself doing the bombing in the Middle East (now three locations to serve you better!), but who knows, maybe he's put Roger Ailes in charge of the Air Force?

I like Newt, and I like Rand Paul. Can you imagine how vibrant and constructive a REAL political debate could be once the progressives are finally relegated to the margins where they crawled out from 100 years ago? Once we can put to bed the obvious: socialism doesn't work, it's over, we're not going to try it anymore...then we can actually debate ideas of actual import. It's like we need to put the kids to bed so the adults can have a conversation.

Not that I'm defending Newt at all and Rand is right about Newt, but "Rand Paul caught in absolute lie on national television, then repeats it?" www.sodahead.com/united-states/rand-paul-caught-in-absolute-lie-on-national-television-then-repeats-it/question-1633245/"Senate Tea Party champion Rand Paul was on Lawrence O'Donnell's Last Word program last night repeating a frequently used political lie, the one that says Obama didn't get direction from the congress before agreeing to help the international community impose a no fly zone over Libya. The facts are that weeks before the President's action he was directed to take that action by a unanimous vote in the Senate." So they can have at each other. Really? When did Obama find time to get on a plane and fly it to Libya? Do tell! Yeah, I know it was a deflection, but since the original statement was a deflection, I don't feel so bad. Remember Conservatives, when you don't want to answer a tough question, just make a related, yet irrelevant statement about Obama. Between who? An opportunistic flip flopper and an opportunistic liar? How constructive would that be? I suppose it could be vibrant, in the seeing two gossiping bitties go at each other sort of way. Wow, even your fantasies are screwed up. Could you tell us all about that purely capitalistic country that's doing fine and dandy? And for extra credit, tell us all about that libertarian state that's doing grrrrrrrreat! Come on, tiger, tell us. The way you "debate," your bedtime would be so early you might as well just stay there. Well, at least there you can dream about real victories instead of all the self declared ones you post here.

I'd try to explain things like chain of command and accountability of authority, but I really can't seem to get all the way down to the level of literalism you seem to require in order to comprehend...

(Maybe it was covered elsewhere, I don't know- I've given up on "elsewhere") What are you talking about? Rand Paul was making a joke about the internal workings of fox news. There was no debate shown on fox news or otherwise.

Socialism is capitalism with a heart, or are the cold war dinosaurs still saying socialism is communism? Let's call it Social Democracy so as to not set them off...THEIR sleep will be a long one.

Social democracy is what they have in every other modern country. When affordable health care, a living wage, a crackdown on illegal work is implemented, we will be too. At least they don't start depressions like deregulate/fraud/bubble idiot Pub capitalists... Boom and bust morons...

We're talking about socialist, not communist. Every modern country (original EU, Canada, Oz, NZ, and MAYBE, USA) is really socialist, but like I said we better call it social democracy, or Americans make the jump you just did...

I argue that Pub voters are misled, especially with the Reagan Myth and Fox/Rush malarkey. The fact that "dupes" bothers them so much is illustrative. I'm saying "sorely misled" for a while. Read the article that starts this thread, and Jay Coggins's , also on P.1. Megarich Elitists pubs have a huge Propaganda machine. The fact that a major part is run by an Aussie troublemaker and an Asian cult leader doesn't seem to bother them.

Warsaw, you might want to read Milton Friedman's book, Capitalism and Freedom. He devotes an entire chapter dispelling the myth of so-called Democratic Socialism. You might learn a thing or two.

Give a short synopsis. Didn't he just say he'd been wrong about Reaganomics all along? I'll argue his crappe anytime.

He basically states that calling oneself a democratic socialist is a fallacy because they are diametrically opposed. Furthermore, who made you the arbiter to decide how American taxpayers should spend the money that is the fruit of their labor?

Ok, so is there a "social democrat" country you would rather live in then the USA? You can call it any name you want...if you'd rather live in another country I don't think the US would stop you...

"calling oneself a democratic socialist"
Wow... semantics are lost on you... a democratic (adjective) socialist (noun) ... is not the same as a social (adjective) democracy (noun)....

"He basically states that calling oneself a democratic socialist is a fallacy because they are diametrically opposed. "
Well my 1960 World Book says SOCIALIST is always DEMOCRATIC, so I continue to think Friedman is an idiot. One problem is "socialist" is incredibly misunderstood, so let's say social democratic, as outside the US Pub Party, that's how it's understood.

Your OPINIONS are not "FACTS."
You just insulted me by calling me an ugly American, so you should be banned as well.
I'm not going to be drawn into a battle with you. You think that you are "owed" a living wage, free healthcare for life, and etc., simply because you wake up in the morning and take a deep breath. That type of entitlement attitude doesn't work in America.

Belarus is not a modern socialist country, nor is Russia. They may get there. If I HAD to leave here for one. It would be in the original EU, Oz, NZ...not Japan. And THEY won't let me. France was awarded #1 quality of life by Modern Retirement. But the EU makes even retirement there hard. Once we get Health Care, that takes care of my major complaint here.

Yes I do-totally irrelevant. Did you notice 45 thousand people a year die because they don't, with immeasurable worry and misery, in the most cruel and EXPENSIVE by far "system" in the modern world. Are you trying for eternal Hel*? ;D Pubs! Keep those blinkers on! St. Peter will not be amused...
