already I'm feeling quite unwelcome. Again. It happened on the MSN boards a while back, but those posters left for their own preferred forums. One hopes that will be the case this time as well. There's no rational explanation for disliking nameless, faceless people on a public forum...people that I don't know and am not likely to ever know. I think of incredibly unkind and snarky comments to make but sit on my hands thinking that everybody has feelings and to deliberately make someone else feel bad is...what? more than not nice. OTOH, those posters often post comments that border on the obscene or are obviously designed to insult/anger others or are just plain mindless drivel. I prefer the brand of mindless and silly drivel that we came to embrace on the MSN boards When I see names of some posters attached to threads that I'd like to read or a long-running thread where I'd usually post, I just scroll on past. Responding pleasantly seems to be an exercise in futility or an invitation to be flamed/bashed/whatever. Is it just me? Have I become so hidebound that I cannot see what's probably meant to be humor? I hate myself for being such a b!tch, but some of the garbage posted in the past day or two is so stupidly outrageous that I don't even want to bother anymore. Flame away.

Thanx, Ricka...I said on another thread that sometimes I feel like I'm in the Court in The Emperor's New Clothes. It makes me feel a little better that somebody else has recognized the...the...whatever it's called. ETA: for MU

The tone is not the same. I'll still hang around a little, but not like before. I'll miss you, Gramma.

The tone is not the same. I'll still hang around a little, but not like before. I'll miss you, Gramma. I agree. I don't know how much of it has to do with regulars in absentia with vacations and whatnot, and/or people not able to use these boards during the day.

already I'm feeling quite unwelcome.
Maybe on some topic's you are unwelcome (if you disagree with someone). On others you might be LOVED.
Me, I just answer or comment. I haven't been to all of the threads but just come in & go to what interests me. I rarely get into heated arguments over stuff but don't mind saying what I feel about a subject.
Just wondering, can you look back on your posts & see the replies that made you feel unwelcome? See if they are jokey or not.

I know y'all will think it's silly, but truth to tell, I don't have much of a life outside the boards. I go to work, come home, have dinner most evenings next door with the family, return to my hovel and the company of Tucker the Perfectly Good Cat.
To not have a pleasant online place to go creates a kind of vacuum in a ho-hum existence. I feel like I'm being excluded because I can't accept...accept...what'll I call it? A change in the atmosphere?
ETA: That's not it OldTex. I'm not an argumentative person; I'm one of those peace-at-any-price people. It's only the past two days that have changed.

I wasn't around as long as you on EE, Miss R, but I found that on anyonymous forums people tend to sometimes say/act a lot different than they would in real life. It's like an outlet for letting loose for some of us - but some people didn't know where to draw the line on what could be taken the wrong way or be hurful to someone else. I also discovered that you can learn to recognize certain posting styles or traits of some people from the get-go that can help you decide which ones you want to communicate with and which ones to avoid. If I see the nic of someone I don't want to associate with because of their past history, I skip by their post without comment - even if they've said something about me. Life's too short to worry about a few nasty words posted by someone you don't know in real-life. [PS: I like you just fine]

Miss R - I feel the same way and I'm much more of a lurker now than I used to be. On the upside for me, I'm getting more work done during the day. It has only been a few days. Why don't you take a couple days off or just visit EM's and come back full force in a couple weeks? I've already noticed that the newness is rapidly wearing off. Just don't leave forever, 'k?

Angel, it's not likely that I'll quit posting. Just seeing the board names on threads that I'd like to respond to is enough to get my Irish up. My brain knows that it's completely irrational, but my self feels like it's a place I have to stay away from. I guess I'm annoyed that I feel like somebody else has the power to limit my access to or enjoyment of the board. See? Irrational! Swamp, I hope you don't go away. You're so fun and genuine. Maybe it'll all just sort itself out like it did on MSN. Where there's life there's hope. Right? Hello? Right? ETA: Yes, MU. You're just fine

I have been spending more time on SS because of some of these issues. Like Tesla asked "When does the Smiting begin", or at least a warning or two.

I'm with you MissR! I scroll past the offensive peeps too. I'm here because there are some truly fun and easy going posters that I enjoy interacting with. The mean ones can go sit on it (Happy Days curse).

Moo! When you're being...er...chauvinistic, you are unwelcome, or at least annoying! I like the real you better than the board you I wish the smiting would begin forthwith, or even yesterday. I know the same old gang is here; it's the same old new gang that rubs me the wrong way. Who's the whiz-bang genius who mentioned our new digs? It seemed to be going just swimmingly... Gawd! I'm not only a b!tch, I'm a snob.

SbS, I won't run away, maybe just keep it on the down low.
BTW, Empire, did you go to work yesterday or did you not?

You are not the only one, MissRigby. The mood has been different and I wonder if it's holiday stress combined with a new board and some folks both old and new wanting to test the boundaries. I'm lurking more and posting less until I see how it plays out. I hate to see smart and sharp exchanges replaced with mean and stupid.

Oh, sorry I didn't mean it that way. I was just saying what I do. Many times I don't even come back to the same thread until days later. I've got a poor memory & don't remember all of the threads that I've posted on. I've had company from out of town so I haven't been here much of the past 2 days so I wouldn't have noticed a change. I am sorry that you feel that way though.

Miss R - This too shall pass. The same thing happened to EE every now and then. I'm sure people will settle down, or be settled down.

wow... just goes to show ya how two people can see things differently. I like Moon's EE place so much better than the old MSN Money/EE board, its much more welcoming to new members. It doesn't have that cliqish feel of the old place. I'm in hopes that the old gang don't start running everyone off like I saw so many times on the MSN board. Miss Rigby maybe you are just taking things too personal?

MissR, I think part of it is when you click on new topics you see stuff from all the Forums unlike on MSN. I'm seeing a lot more MT and P&M regulars on EE and YM threads. Does give it a different feel.

Oh, no, Opti! Actually, I like that aspect. Can you believe that Windy posted on SS? LOL Windy!
Maybe the mods here will issue words of warning and if those aren't heeded, will exercise their banning powers. After a time or two, the offending parties may just leave for climes better suited to their brand of humor...or whatever it's called.
And Great, I have always liked EE, with the exception of a short time maybe a year or so ago when it was populated by the same sort of posters who seem to have found the proboard and brought their atmosphere along.

I think that things will settle down -- we're still getting everything set up, and getting an idea of where the limits need to be -- I think we (as mods) want to be a little more relaxed than things were on MSN, but if you've got any specific issues, feel free to PM me.
