This is the first Sunday in March so I meet the kids and their dog for breakfast then go to the farmers market. I pay. Always. But it’s a new tradition that we’ve worked out. Plus I’m buying some really good chew sticks so the new grand puppy will hopefully chew on those instead of something of mine when he comes to visit in a few weeks.

I'm not sure if this is a save money or wasted money. I finally ordered our new living room furniture over the weekend. Our old furniture was T-cushion. The new stuff is not, so the old slipcovers won't really work well on the new stuff. That's fine though, because the old slip covers, with the exception of one set are as old as the couch. I thought about how Shelby still does the puppy crazy bounce off furniture, and opted to again order covers. She has shredded somewhat a few of the covers with her nails. I opted though, instead of full covers, to order pet covers. I used an Amazon gift card. Cheaper than full covers, hope they hold up for a little bit. I have a pet cover on the sofa that I bought from BBB. I think it's easier to wash. I have it because our cocker spaniel grooms her paws a lot, and I don't puppy drool on the sofa. I don't think it's substantial, however, so it's possible that your Shelby could shred it more easily than a real slipcover.

Standard slip covers (even the fitted ones) require constant tucking. Thought at least I would give them a try...otherwise, I do have one stretch set that I can put on until I'm ready to buy ugh, new ones. I guess it's a good problem though.

Didn't go anywhere, had to pay 2 months of medicare scrip premiums. Thought I had paid it for the year but got a bill 2 months in a row, so called. The gal researched and said the person tried to process it and apparently for some reason didn't go through. I swore I saw the full amount on my checking account. I pulled it and looked nope, so paid the 2 months. I ordered a new hose for my steam compressor type iron. I was getting black crud out and hubs thinks the steam tube was disintegrating. It was about $50, but still cheaper then a new one which is $200 to $300. I'm moving my sewing room upstairs and have fabric to make a shower curtain and matching window curtain so going to do that. Trying to stay home more and not spend.

One thing I'm doing this year is planning fun things for DH and I to do far in advance. This is a great idea, but I need to stay mindful of costs. I saved a $5 by using my hotel rewards number for this upcoming weekend. I also didn't buy the most expensive VIP tickets for a comedy show in May. Savings $100 per ticket. And I'm taking him to a certain recreation place next month, before peak season starts, which will save $5 per ticket. With me paying for these things, I'll "let" him pay for gas and meals.

I wanted new carpet or flooring this year. We still have a lot to spend on our last rental and not wise to do this, like he said when its done can pull the money out of profits. The carpet isn't worn, it was very good quality but it needs cleaned again, its a light tan and is starting to show areas in our bedroom where we walk all the time so is mashing down, I sweep practically daily now. It is 14 years old so was some very dense expensive stuff. It's taking a beating with hubs home and the kids here for 6 months really got it dirty and we don't wear shoes in the house. I can't imagine this color with a family with small kids. I need to wait till the weather is warmer to have it cleaned so it can dry better, cannot find one up here that does it with chemicals. I like that better. So we are planning in a year or two, durn, putting in hardwood I guess, the bamboo stuff. Hubs is planning on doing the whole house himself, I hope he is still able in 2 years as it would cost us a small fortune to have hardwood installed. I'm not sure I want it for the feet but it would be better as we would never have to change the bamboo stuff out again. I can get area rugs. So we are not spending money on that for 2 years.

Something we've done all winter: We keep the thermostat at home at 66. While visiting in January, one of our neighbors mentioned how cold our house is. It never bothers me unless it's below 10 degrees outside. Mine is set there as well but not to save money. It's the highest temperature at which our upstairs bedrooms are not too hot for sleeping. And when it gets into the 20s and 30s that's not even low enough. If I am moving around downstairs I'm generally warm enough. If I'm watching TV or using the laptop, I do get cold. If you can get into the attic, look at adjusting your dampers on the ducts to reduce the airflow into those bedrooms. We have to adjust ours twice a year whenever we switch from AC to heat and back to keep both our bedroom and LB's bedroom livable.

I avoided stopping to get fast food on the way home from a movie, even though I was kind of craving it (instead, I made dinner at home using stuff from the freezer, fridge, and pantry). I stopped by BiMart to check my number (didn't win anything) and saw that a canning rack I need was on sale for $4 (I have no idea where mine disappeared to). Went to check out, and it rang up at $8.99. So, I went back to the shelf to double check, and the sale was for one brand, but there were no brand markings on the rack or plastic, but the upc numbers didn't match. I took the tag off the shelf and took it to customer service, with one of the racks, so that it wouldn't catch someone else. The lady called the manager, and he told her to go ahead and give me the sale price on it anyway I still haven't checked on a used CD player/radio, but I haven't bought one either.

So glad to know I'm not the only one who will do this. I've never told my RL friends that I have done this before. It doesn't happen often but I've had the same results.

When I think there is a discrepancy in the price posted I will go ahead and toss it into the cart but then take a picture of the display. I've had to use the photo a few times, and it certainly makes things easier at the cashier lane.

I've had to use the photo a few times, and it certainly makes things easier at the cashier lane. I was going to take a photo after it rang up wrong, but that wouldn't help the person after me (there were still four racks left). When I saw that the UPCs didn't match, and there were no correct racks, I decided to just take the tag to customer service instead. I used to have to hang tags in high school, and it's a lot easier when the tag matches for everyone. I've never had things ring up wrong before at this store, so I didn't think it would be an issue when I first grabbed it Cell phone cameras are so handy though! I've done this when there are two almost-identical items, but the one I want doesn't have the price tag (usually it's just a color difference). Or I'll bring both up, have them ring up the one with the tag, and take home the one that doesn't have it.

A penny earned is a penny saved... So, I took an unexpected OT day shift today. It might be a little miserable, since I was getting myself ready for a long string of night shifts, but I'm crossing my fingers it's a slow day.

My business will be expanding it's territory, and I'll eventually be hiring 2 people. Life is good.

that's awesome, Iggy! keep up the great work.
today, my bonus appeared in my checking account. I'm going to use it to pay off a balance whose promotional rate reset to a very high one. that will save me a lot in interest moving forward.

Thank you, chiver78!!! Other things I've done recently: ~Just ate the other half of yesterday's salad purchased by a friend ~Went to Starbucks this AM for a client and myself and used a gift card ~Used a recycled piece of paper to printout a coupon ~Currently reading this on my lunch break, though I probably won't learn anything new: How to Save Money on Groceries Without Coupons~This weekend I'll have adult beverages at home instead of going out ~Also this weekend I'm surprising DH with a a concert and hotel stay. We'll be celebrating our anniversary of meeting each other 17 years ago almost to the day at the same venue. Different band, however. I'll bring a bottle of gifted birthday wine for the room and pack a few snacks. Saved $ on the hotel room as mentioned in a previous post, and saved money by printing out the tickets instead of using a different delivery method. Happy weekend everyone.

I think it's substantial enough (sort of), but, looks wise, DH and I agree I could have made a better choice. So, I'm returning the sofa one and will continue the quest. I'll probably use the loveseat one in the back seat of my car. Thank you so much for your insight.

Typical Friday for me: leave for VA @ 6:15 AM, home by 1 PM then stayed home rest of day. Took my lunch as usual, so nothing spent. However, I'm meeting a friend for coffee @ Barnes & Noble today, it's really close to Dillards.....so I feel like a shopping trip is in my future.

There was a Chick-fil-a promotional gift card inside a birthday card from the administrative staff. It was for an entire meal--either sandwich or chicken nuggets. I gave the SAT today for some extra $$$. I used the gift card for lunch so I wouldn't be hungry when doing grocery shopping before finally coming home. I usually stop at Costco for the same reason, but this was better! And FREE!

I did not give any money to charity AGAIN and by gosh my lack of empathy and compassion is allowing me to put on weight, starting to look at the moral relativism of eating people but my Gods are telling me not now.

Well, this weekend was spend money for our anniversary, and also help out the economy in the big city, but DH and I were smart about it:
~Niece's boyfriend had a savings card which saved 10% off a food item when we took them out Sunday night for his 21st BD. Smart young man when it comes to finances! ~DH saved nearly $100 off a sporting goods item he's been wanting for awhile. It was on sale, and has a mail in rebate. ~I bought a Starbucks with a gift card. ~I used my Office Depot reward points from recycling ink cartridges several months ago. Saved over $20 on my my office supply order. Need to remember to bring more cartridges next time. ~Yesterday's biscuits and gravy brunch was HUGE, so we had leftovers for dinner last night.
Have a fantastic day, everyone!
ETA: Guess saving $20+ at a time is too much for them. I received this via email this AM: "As a valued Office Depot OfficeMax Rewards member, we want to let you know about changes to your program that will begin on April 1. Program rewards (2% back, recycling rewards and 5% back in rewards for VIP members on ink, toner, paper and print/copy/ship services) will now be paid out when a minimum of $3 in rewards is earned. However, we are committed to ensuring that you maximize your rewards, therefore qualifying rewards will now be paid out monthly instead of quarterly. This will give you faster access to the rewards you deserve!"
LOL!
