-$219 Increased our homeowners insurance deductible from $1,000 to $5,000 -$276 Last Friday I had to call a second time about the Hertz refund mentioned in a prior post. The charge has been reimbursed back into my account as of this morning. Didn't go anywhere this weekend, saving on fuel and being-around-other-humans sanity. Read several money savings articles over the weekend for more ideas.

Iggy aka IG you're the insurance agent LOL, but a 5K deductible seems HUGE to me!

Iggy aka IG you're the insurance agent LOL, but a 5K deductible seems HUGE to me! It's whatever a person can afford/budget if there is (knock wood) ever a claim. ETA: One of the money saving articles I read broke the numbers down as to how often someone places a home insurance claim. I think it said once every 7 years...?

Free lunch at the local community credit union. We missed the free breakfast yesterday because I only glanced at the insert in the statement. Washed two cars in the driveway. I had wash tickets that I bought BOGO. The car wash driveway has been torn up for 3 weeks. I am looking for a membership card that can give us a 10% discount at one of the stores. I didn't get it in the mail so I hope I can get another one. I hope the store is still offering the discount. If so, 10% on a $500 item, $50 off plus gift card I have for $20. Then we get a $25 gift card by using their credit card for a future purchase. Update: The membership discount was discontinued in 2017. The price of the item was $399 which was $23 less than when H. looked at it a month ago. The free tee shirt requires a $500 purchase. It used to be $250. He got a new tackle box for Father's Day.
I save 40% on a large brimmed cool boonie hat. I thought it was $19.99. Instead it was $14.99 bringing the price to just under $10. I wore it to wash the car in the sun.

Iggy aka IG you're the insurance agent LOL, but a 5K deductible seems HUGE to me! That seems like a huge deductible to me, too. Of course, in the last state we lived in, our house got damaged not once, but twice by large hail. (I wasn't happy about needing to get the roof reshingled both times, and the siding had to be redone once.) Houses can be serious money pits.

My "deal of the day" was going to the local vegetable stand. (She mostly sells vegetables, but sometimes has fruit, too.) I got 2 large cucumbers, and 6 bananas for only $2 in total, which is a much better price than even our cheapest grocery store.

~$1.20 in coins into my penguin bank ~$12.90 = 13% savings at the grocery store the other day ~.10/gallon savings at the fuel pump using my value card Supposed to be 88 degrees today. Up until last weekend we'd been opening windows for a cross breeze at the house. Time to use some electricity.

Received the newspaper renewal in the mail. They wanted an increase from last year. Told them that I was going to cancel (even though my hubby reads the paper every day). They lowered the price of the subscription to what I paid last year. Savings: $53.00

Shampoo, conditioner, eye drop and make up bottles all turned upside down to get every last drop. Used a small spatula to get as much peanut butter out of the jar as possible before starting a new one.

I cut open a sunscreen/moisturizer and got almost a 1/4 cup of additional out. I saw on TV on how to save $1,000 this summer. On the bottom of the receipt, a lot of stores say you save $x. They said put that money in a bank account. Also, cancel all the subscription services you aren't using. Put your cable on vacation for 3 months. Add those amounts to savings. I don't agree with paying a subscription to rent clothing. I know working people need fresh wardrobes but it seems like a waste to me. H. said when he got his oil changed, they wanted to drain, flush and replace the break fluid. Does anyone know why? He didn't bite.

I went to Three Identical Strangers at the Senior Center free movie. Almost fell asleep. I had to walk around to wake up enough to drive. The forecast 60 mph winds and quarter size hail did not materialize again. That ruined my movie going last Tuesday afternoon. It did rain hard in area of the theater. I drove to a riverside bar to have water while my GFs had alcohol drinks.
So far 2 free entertainments.

I scored a couple of great deals this past weekend. First, the Wawa convenience store near my church had posted a gas price that was 14 cents LESS per gallon than the cheapest gas near my house, so of course I filled up the tank. Then, DH came home from work with a plastic bag filled with blueberries. His coworker has a friend who grows them, and ended up with more than he could sell or give away, so we got a bunch of blueberries for free. The sad part is, we could've gotten a lot more--the pick-up truck the coworker owns had 40 to 50 POUNDS (not pints) of fresh blueberries in the back. But, we still need to buy a spare freezer for our garage, and our freezer in the kitchen was mostly full, so DH took some, but not a lot. And, even though I need to pull the stems, and sort out those berries that aren't yet ripe, I'm thrilled to get free blueberries!

I feel like I'm bleeding money over here.... $200+ for a new tire, medical co-pays from bills earlier this year, quarterly taxes and HOA dues.... Meh. Adulting is hard.

It's graduation season so I've sent a few cards lately. I put them inside a sealed 5 x 7 envelope. Each one has been $0.70 to mail. I had one card to send today although not a graduation one. I found one $0.70 stamp left from my wedding invites 2 years ago. One more thing out of my house!
I also baked cupcakes for this week's birthday celebration at work instead of buying them. And I made dinner as planned and turned down DH's offer of take out since I was baking.

Sounds like my house. Shampoo, conditioner and body wash bottles are always turned upside down to get out every bit and then rinsed out just to make sure I get it all. I always squeeze my toothpaste tubes flat and then cut off the last couple of inches before the cap. I keep the cut section in a snack-sized plastic bag (reused of course). It always surprises me how much toothpaste is left.

I redeemed some travel rewards on my Barclays card (the one I used to book rooms and stuff when I went to Sweden and Finland). Was able to take $75 off my balance.
I really wanted take out yesterday, since I wasn't feeling the greatest, but made a big salad at home instead (then later made mashed potatoes and gravy).

I started making and freezing cookies for a big party next weekend. Much cheaper than buying a cookie platter from the bakery and I know what's in them. No concerns about allergies this way. I shopped Walmart and the local warehouse club for the best prices on ingredients for all the baking I'm doing for the party.
I made a batch of frosting and frosted the remaining cupcakes from earlier in the week. These will serve as the birthday cake for a last minute party tonight.

I checked out the first 5 books in the Rizzoli & Isles series for my Kindle from my public library. When something looks interesting in Kindle's daily mail, I've also started checking there first.
Although I get a lot of books for free and 99 cents, it IS possible to waste a lot of money on e-books.

Something is wrong with the printer head on my printer. I have no idea what to do with it. I can order the same model so I can continue using the printer cartridges I have, and its only $89. Think I will just order it. The paper has been getting stuck in this one and stuff for some time so probably messed something up. Not worth trying to fix, sad to say. I've had it for a few years, we are just buying cheap ones anymore as the last expensive one quit on me too, and I don't need to print volumes. Mainly use for taxes annually and just various things at times.

I pulled up the troubleshooting for the printer, we tried it, still wouldn't change so glad I ordered one, think its done. It has not been sheet feeding right for some time anyway.
Looking and comparing more store brands, if its equivalent ingredients I'm buying those. I went to the Save A Lot, prices going up too, lettuce $2.39 per head, small bag of potatoes $4.99. I think groceries are going to skyrocket. Is it legit, like loss of laborers? Or is it just because they can and are gouging.

Countrygirl2 I'm with you. We're buying more store brand items too. There are a few brand name items we buy but with the prices going up and living on a fixed income generic is becoming a better fit for the equivalent brand name item.
We were in WINCO yesterday and their produce is usually fresher and cheaper than Safeway or Fred Meyer but not this time. I was unpleasantly surprised at the prices and the selection. Is this a sign of things to come?

I used my $2 extra bucks and 40% off to buy a large bag of peanut M&Ms from CVS. If anyone checked, M&Ms or small candy bars is what I use the EB and coupons for!

Eating from the freezer, with some from the pantry and garden. Strawberry season will soon be over. Still a wait for raspberries.

Reviewed the pantry contents again to see what needed to be used up. I found a forgotten cranberry/orange muffin mix that will be breakfast and snacks for me for a few days. I love the cranberry/orange muffins from Panera Bread but making my own is kinder to my wallet. Kept to my list at the grocery store. I'm trying to limit my purchases to fresh produce, eggs and bread. Fresh raspberries are in season with marionberries following very soon.

(and by secret code, I mean the actual food. Like calling filberts "filberts". It tends to confuse others.)

I discovered that you can shop clearance pantry items from Kroger online (Fred Meyer here). And if you order $35 dollars worth, it's free shipping. I stocked up my pantry and spent much less than I would have in the store.
I've been resisting the urge for fast food several times the last couple weeks. There has been more stress with usually (dealing with an a-hole), so the desire for something salty, greasy, and already made for me has been strong.

Different locales different names but the berries are the same.

We didn't do anything, didn't go anywhere. I canned 15 pints of relish today. Can't say it saved us a lot of money likely but its good.
