Had them taken out by general anaesthetic on Monday in hospital .....along with two other back molars. Have had morphine and codeine for the first couple of days so it didn't hurt but now regular painkillers, cocodymol and ibuprofen aren't enough. I'm off work..... but sick of pureed food and drinking from straws. Have you had this done? How did you cope? Why do teeth have to be so painful? DONT DRINK FROM STRAWS YOU WILL GIVE YOURSELF DRY SOCKET ITS VERY BAD STOP STRAWS NO STRAWS VERY BAD

Top 2 were removed via local. Worst part was watching the dentist strain to pull them out and he dropped one on my chest and got blood on my favorite shirt.
Bottoms were removed under anesthesia. I was in early 20s (and this will date me), so I went to my parents house and watched the new MTV channel on cable. Michael Jackson's Thriller video just came out and I was watching after taking mega-doses of demerol.
Apparently I am more wise than most people, because in my 20s I got another wisdom tooth (#5) in my upper jaw. I just had it removed a couple years ago when I had some fillings redone.

I seem to have a memory of trying to eat soup and not being able to get the spoon into my mouth. My jaws wouldn't open far enough and the spoon just banged against my teeth.

Stay on the schedule they gave you for the pain meds. You can't eat, drink, and move your jaw if you're in pain, and failing to do those activities will lengthen and worsen your recovery. Part of the jaw pain is from the large metal frame they insert into your mouth to keep the jaw open during the procedure. I had all 4 wisdom teeth taken out, in the hospital, under general anesthesia, with an overnight stay, 41 years ago. I had it done on Good Friday and was terrified that I was jinxing my own survival by doing it that day. But, I was in college and we had the day off so I scheduled it then hoping to recover over the long holiday weekend. I remember looking like a hampster. I remember being loopy on Percocet. I remember not being able to eat Easter dinner. I remember taking the bus back to college, still miserable, because I couldn't afford to miss too many classes. I remember being so loopy and so miserable that I left the full bag of soft foods my mother sent back with me on the damn bus. I remember being really, very, sad that I forgot the bag. But, eventually, I recovered and lived to tell the tale.

So that an unexpected bonus Feeling a bit better today. Yesterday must have been the worst day. Back in the mid-70s, I went on vacation to Egypt. Ate some bad food. For the next three weeks, probably visited the men's room 10 times a day. Lost about 25 pounds. What ever ailed me ended the morning I was an usher at my brother's wedding. Didn't have to leave the front of the church at all.
