I always use Christmas as an excuse to make the clean out. You have sooo many things that Santa won't bring you anything new if there's no room for it!

Has anyone here actually done the Disney cruise before? Is it worth it? I imagine it is costly.

It's not even about cleaning out part - it just hard to keep getting and getting and getting stuff. There is something about the cycle of buying, using it for a minute, throwing it out that goes against the very core of me. But to go back to answering OP - we will probably spend more. DS2 just asked for a box subscription that is around $200. He also had his bike stolen last month, so we were looking for bikes. Youngest wants a 2ft thingy of a Power Ranger....which is $130.....which he found in B&N. When did book stores became toy stores ?

I haven't done one, but I've sent a few Wish kids on them. actually, I've got a Wish going on right now that this is what it's going to be. it is pretty pricey, but there is a ton of stuff that's available to do, so it does kind of seem worth it if that's your thing.

Spending about the same. I also don't see the point in adults "swapping cash."
All the kids get gifts (whatever is on their list within reason and the 'rents know and approve), but for the adults we try to find something small that they really like (books, music, specialty food items, clothing).

Spending hundreds to thousands of dollars on people does not not equate to how much you love them.

I have never been, but my parents took my sister, brother-in-law, nieces, and nephew on one about 8 years ago. They had an awesome time and it still comes up in conversations on rare occasions. It made enough of an impression that the kids designed a representation of the trip into one of the squares of their anniversary quilt for their 50th.

About the same. I've asked my sister to do a donation to Harvey relief instead of a gift, plan to ask my kids to do the same. The grandkids are getting older so probably money; my oldest granddaughter wants Similac as they have a new baby and the price is pretty steep! So I'll do that for them. Great grandsons are 2 and a baby-they'll be fun to get something for. For my kids, have no idea!

Much less. I've been spending on them all year, plus with the health issues I'm facing there's not much money. DD1 and I agreed last year to just buy for the grandkids, since we both hate clutter and don't need anything.

$600 for tree removal before landscaping can start. Ugh. I don’t want to think about Christmas.

I was thinking it might be that one. We went in early August when we were in New England for vacation. C loved it! They had a pretty cool crawlers/toddler area as well, which was nice since M wasn't walking (I know your kids are past that stage, though). ETA: We ate lunch at the King Arthur Bread Cafe which is literally just across the highway from the Montshire. I told DH that someday I want to go back and take a breadmaking class there.

DBIL and his family live near there and my niece had her wedding reception there. VERY cool place. You can also throw in a tour of Dartmouth while you're in the area.

I'll send a package with a few art supplies to one person. My cousin's family will get boxes of fresh oranges, and sweet pears. I'll send a couple of cards, and I'm done. It will be less than $100. Yay me!

Most certainly spending more this year since I start off with a plane ticket to Munich! On top of that, I am in the whatever happens, happens group so it is a good thing I can afford this.
ETA: I promised DS2 and DIL when DGS1 was born that I would limit gifts to one/a few for his birthday. But Xmas was mine to go all out on. They are nice people so they agreed. But I can be so bad that even I think that I have gone overboard. So I needed to cull down the presents I bought and Toys for Tots has benefitted from this

I’m buying one gift per child and significant other. Bought DS beautiful candlesticks that he was admiring last Sunday. I think I’ll get DD some new riding boots. Not sure about the other two.

Yeah, here, too. When we bought the house, DH and I decided no more Christmas presents. It's amazing how much simpler life became in reviewing my list today, LOL. You could try being poor. Christmas is both simpler and more depressing as a poor person IMO. There's no real deciding about Christmas presents. As Suze Orman would say, you can't afford to give any.
Heck I'm probably going to send out a Christmas newsletter for the first time in years to just family, simply because I have enough money for stamps ... if I buy them now LOL. I think I need a poor people thread as there's really no one to talk to about this and most topics here.

Passing on those riding boots. Let the boyfriend buy them. My Mom was always going to buy me riding boots. I still have my protective riding helmet in a box in my closet. Does the BF want to buy her riding boots?

I bought a giant candy cane yesterday. It reminds me of the hooks they used to use to pull bad performers off the stage.

BTDT. In fact, no one even got Christmas cards that year. I had no money for cards or postage.
