I've updated our selection of smileys, scavenging as many of the old ones as I could after both the Proboards v5 image server and Photobucket went dead. Many couldn't be recovered and have been replaced by different smileys.
I also updated some of the code, hence there's a possibility for regressions (i.e. bugs where none existed before).
Please let me know if you find any dead images or experience any unexpected behaviour.

Thanks for your work on the site! I am glad the dancing bananas made it through unscathed.

Thank you for your work on the emoticons. Its nice to have them fully populated again. I do notice my small square of 9 emoticons now contains 6 . Are you trying to tell me something?

Thanks Virgil!
Count me as one who loves emoticons. My DD has been sending me texts this morning and my replies were a smiling pumpkin and a friendly ghost with his tongue sticking out.

Thank you for your work on the emoticons. Its nice to have them fully populated again. I do notice my small square of 9 emoticons now contains 6 . Are you trying to tell me something? Happy faces (the default smiley) will appear in any slot where a smiley was removed.

I hate emoticons and wish they would all die. But thanks anyway..... Do you dislike when they're misused (used too frequently, etc.) or do you dislike them generally? When used properly, I find they can greatly enhance content and compactness.

I see smilies as a way to convey meaning that might be missed on a message board (lacking body language and facial expression can lead to misunderstandings).

When used properly, I find they can greatly enhance content and compactness. I hate them all and I hope they all die. However, I do recognize some limited benefits from using them. In most cases, one would get banned or at least deleted by posting, "Oh my God! You are such a dumbass!" But? Now we can use instead and be safe from consequences.
I do concede that posting a smiley face when someone is kidding around about something can be helpful when we can't see body language, see facial expression or hear tones on a message board.

We had planned on removing the "crazy" smiley before this, since people were using/interpreting it as "you're crazy" rather than "this is crazy". The facepalm is more benign, and fills in the gap left behind. Generally it means "I can't believe I'm hearing this." or "Oy vey."

I look at smileys the same way I look at a poster's avatars. Just an expression of them so to speak!

I do agree that someone can say something stupid and not be stupid. I sure hope that's the case anyway or I'm in trouble.

To me, the face palm is less personally directed than the crazy smiley. The crazy smiley can easily be misconstrued to be directed at the poster. The face palm smiley is less likely to seem personally insulting.
