There was an update saying he had no brain activity so they pulled him from life support. How sad.

Tom Petty, frontman for the Heartbreakers, is dead at 66. He was found unconscious at his home and rushed to the hospital where he was pronounced deceased. Apparently, he suffered a cardiac arrest. LINK to CBS coverage |

There are now conflicting reports about his death. Some are saying he has died, some are saying he's still clinging to life. I hope he recovers & gets a laugh at all the reports & gets to see all the wonderful things that are being said about him right now.

Someone found in full cardiac arrest will be transported to hospital "on the thumper" (an auto-pulse device used by EMS). These folks almost never survive. If they're not seen when they fall there's little chance of reviving them. For one thing, you have no idea how long they've been without oxygen to the brain if you didn't see them go down.

TMZ had said Tom Petty had passed away after family took him off life support. Now last I read is LAPD is saying he is in critical condition but not deceased. Also read a priest has been called and he has no brain activity. Not a good day. I feel honored to have seen Tom Petty perform with the Heartbreakers and at the Concert for George with his Wilbury buddies. |

It was clear from her photos and what she wrote throughout the evening, that he wasn't going to make it. Just don't report him dead before the family issues a statement after he has actually passed. |

RIP Tom Petty His daughter went off on the press last night on Instagram about saying Tom was dead when he was still alive. It was clear from her photos and what she wrote throughout the evening, that he wasn't going to make it. Just don't report him dead before the family issues a statement after he has actually passed. YDS' friend died a couple of weeks ago and the larger group of classmates from high school immediately began posting tributes on Twitter and IG. I was praying that the young man's younger brother away at college was told by his family before he read it online. 😳 |
