My favorite fuzzy buddy is staying with me while her people are away.
She has been squeaking her squeak toy for the last 10 minutes. I'm getting ready to take it away from her before I go mad.
On the plus side, so far today she has protected me from the recycling truck (barked at it), the thunder (barked at it), the UPS guy (barked at him), the postman (barked at him), and at least 3 invisible perils (barked at them).
She's a hoot.
Is anyone else's furbaby obsessed with a squeak toy? My fuzzy buddy generally manages to desqueak them after about a week or so, but this one apparently has an indestructible squeaker.

haha, love it. don't you feel safer now? my goobers don't have squeaky toys, since those don't survive longer than the 10 minutes required to save the squeaker from the toy.

I do, indeed, feel safer. I am sure that at least one of the invisible perils was a particularly sinister leaf, and it is well known that they cannot be trusted. The others were probably squirrels.

So, the leaf was back this morning. Also one of the squirrels. And a neighbor was behaving suspiciously (he got into his car and drove away).
I have never felt so safe.
The squeaky toy is on a shelf until after my nap.

No, but my cat is so obsessed with the laser pointer that he drives you nuts if you put it down. It recently lived in the drawer (out of sight, out of mind) until the window shade person came over to measure and she played with her laser measure with the cat. We broke out the pointer, but the batteries are low and need to replace them.

Last night DS texted me to say he was on his way home. I asked him to let me know when he got in the neighborhood so I could put the dog outside, because even though she obviously knows him she will bark like crazy if anyone comes through the front door. He told me he was close, I put her out, and he walked through the door without incident. I then let the dog in. She took one look at him, realized she had missed her barking opportunity, and let out one, low growl like bark to show her annoyance. DS and I were cracking up.

Both of mine love squeaky toys. Try having two of them squeaking at once. It will drive you batty.
For some reason Jackson learned to keep them away from his sister. He'll squeak the toy as he pushes it into Macy's face. Eventually she'll bite him and he'll back off. I swear they're like little kids.

No doubt our furry friends are firmly convinced that their behavior is entirely logical and reasonable. It's just the humans who don't understand and cannot appreciate the danger posed by things like laser pointers and people crossing thresholds.
Judging by the spates of furious barking, we have apparently been beset by perils all day, all of them invisible. It is also possible that she is simply responding to signals from the dog satellite that only she can hear.
Today, she wants nothing to do with her squeak toy. She did seem to enjoy having the funnies read to her, but I don't think she was able to follow the pictures.

Squeaky toys never last long with our 2. We have to be careful that ours do not eat them ( the squeaky parts).
When we were on vacation a couple weeks ago, our friends invited some a couple to join our group. The woman was a vet and we heard plenty of stories about surgery to remove various items. The most amusing was a thong. When she showed it to the couple that owned the dog, the wife looked at it and said it was not hers! Busted.

Now she's staring out the window at the house behind me in case my neighbor comes out and resumes the sinister assembly of clearly menacing outdoor furniture, from which she protected me all afternoon.
She did stop long enough to eat her supper. She's vigilant but apparently not fanatical about it.

The squeakers last just fine at our house. We have to squeak it because she won't. It has become a signal for "Do you want to play?" What doesn't last at our house are ears, legs, tails, noses . . . anything that can be chewed off. I do a lot of toy surgery to sew up after body parts are amputated. I once bought her an octopus specifically because it had eight legs to chew off. That two-legged octopus was sort of cute.

Lucy Cat spends a lot of time as a guard cat. She got out the front door a couple of winters ago when I was bringing the paper in. There was a leaf there that traumatized her for the rest of the winter.
Now she protects me against anything in the back of the house, especially bugs, birds and dogs. Any movement means an intruder is nearby and I must take notice and give her a treat. I think she taunts me for treats.
She does like her catnip toys and if she has had catnip she doesn't care about guard duty. She sleeps.

It's good we have our furry friends to protect us.

Isn't it. Could not believe how quickly she ran back in the house and didn't dare go on the porch that winter. She seemed to have forgotten about the leaf this past winter.
Luckily for me, she is also afraid of anything past the porch so it's easy to get her back in the house.

We have a mischievous siamese that insists doors and drawers are meant to be open with the contents on the floor instead of in the drawers. Every time we have somone here doing work, she opens the lowest file cabinet drawer and hides in the cabinet behind the drawer.

So, she has been very sad and depressed the last couple of days. She is very bonded with her mom and clearly misses her. This happened the last time she stayed with me. We're best buds, but she wants her mom. Poor sweetie.
She's not so sad, though, that she will refuse a treat, and she hoovers down her breakfast and supper with gusto.
Her best dog buddy (the other neighbor's dog) came over to play with her yesterday and today, so that cheered her up for a while. They both barked at the neighbor who continues, despite all their efforts, to assemble outdoor furniture on his deck. His dog came out and joined in the barking. There was a lot of barking. Then they chased a rabbit. It got away.
She squeaked her squeak toy for a bit after she came in from playing with her friend, but her heart really wasn't in it. Now she's lying on the floor looking pitiful.
It's heartbreaking.
In a few minutes, I'll give her a little treat. She'll look at me with big sad eyes, but she will eat the treat.
Her people will be back tomorrow night and will fetch her on Wednesday. I tried to explain this to her and even showed her the days on the calendar, but I don't think calendars mean anything to dogs.

I'm very pleased. I have told the kids forever that DH's cat snores. I even tried to record him but my giggling drowned his snoring out. Well, they know I'm telling the truth now. The girlfriend thought it was DS and she nudged him. Turns out he was getting ready to nudge her. Guess who??!! 😸

He is plus he makes a puff sound with his lips that honestly sounds the way DH did. Reincarnation anyone?

Today she protected me from a pair of squirrels that were clearly up to no good. Unfortunately, in the process of chasing them away, she got into a patch of weeds full of stickery things, and all the little stickery things attached themselves to her. She was covered in stickery things.
I have spent the last hour removing stickery things from my fuzzy buddy. They were just stuck to the surface fur for the most part, so she wasn't really affected by them. She seemed to enjoy the attention.
The squirrels probably led her into the stickery weeds on purpose. Squirrels are evil.

My cat is obsessed with stuffed chirping birds. He messes with them until he is able to tear it open and get the thing out that makes it chirp. I guess he is trying to kill them
