Apparently, heat, plus time off, plus having a little OT money puts me in a spending mood. I'll cut back, but there is some stuff I just want. DS really liked the Russian MREs, so I went ahead and bought a few more. I was browsing craigslist earlier today while trying to cool off from some outside stuff (last I was in the heat it was 107, and it got hotter). I ended up making a call about a mid-arm sewing machine + frame (so you could use it similar to how you use a long arm quilting machine). It's $900, and after checking with my mom, I've decided I'm getting it. Good thing I mostly cleaned out the future sewing room recently! The frame can extend to 10 feet, so it can do a king size quilt. So, now I'll be able to do some more larger quilts, easily (I hope). The lady is only selling it because she upgraded to a long arm. Russian MREs? Like what? I'm curious. Yeah, Russian MREs (24 hour packs). I guess they are considered one of the best in the world right now (along with French, which are expensive as hell, so I only bought one.) He likes to try different MREs, and said the Russian ones are almost like "homemade" rather than American, which are obviously mass produced dried crap (or something like that). (Most have the native language and an English translation included in the MRE, but Russian MREs are only in Russian, so some things we couldn't quite identify, even with a translation from the site where we bought it). Stuff like crackers ("army loaves"), canned meat (one was beef and barley, we think), salted pork, cereal, "canned food vegetable snack" (like a thick, pureed vegetable soup to go with the crackers), apple butter (the pouch was broken, so had to be tossed), I think there was canned cheese, then coffee, tea, etc. We stop in the Russian market when we visit "the big city" and always browse for something new to try. First time he tried kvas, he hated it, but the market has a honey one and a berry one he has grown to really like. I love getting the fresh breads. ETA: photo

Apple, there is a place here that does similar meals ... I looked it up, and they do deliver to the US, but it's super expensive! Google "Comtesse du Barry". You might even find a wholesaler in the US. Dunno, just thought your son might like it and that it MIGHT be cheaper than the French meals you're referring to. They also do a lot of fancy patés, so those might be cheaper than an entire meal (as long as you don't have to pay for the delivery yourself, unless you decide it's his BD/Christmas gift lol). They sell 6/9/12 packs of their patés (here), so I thought it might be worth looking into since your son likes this sort of thing. I've had their patés (we sometimes gift their six-packs to DH's family in the UK). I've never had one of their "ready meals" but my friend buys them regularly for her DH and he says they are excellent. He's only allowed them twice a week though, because they're more expensive lol. Depending on the total cost (which I have NOT looked into) it could be a super birthday or Christmas gift for your son ... Dunno, just a thought!

Not today, but Wednesday. DS wanted to go with a friend and his family to the beach until tomorrow and I gave him $100 to pay for any meals out, fun things they might do, etc.
He texted me last night to ask if he could go with his youth group on a week trip out of state. The cost of the trip is paid for by someone that now can not go and the youth leader asked him if he would like to take the kid's spot. I know that he will need spending money, but not sure how much, but am hope it won't be much. I'll have more info on Wednesday.
It's killing me, but since we have not taken any time away for 2 years, I feel guilty if I say no.

debthaven Thanks, I'll look into that! He loves pates (to the point that he's made his own liver pate). whoisjohngalt I may have to take you up on that sometime. My son is pretty adventurous with food, there isn't much he's not willing to try!

So, I bought the quilting machine, but "I saved thousands of dollars!"
Oh, and I also got a Whirley-Pop popcorn roaster to roast coffee beans. Because obviously I need to pick up some sort of expensive habit... Oh, well. Home roasted coffee is amazing, will cut down my sugar intake, and since I don't smoke or really ever drink alcohol, I guess I'll just need to up my coffee game (we have a nice Breville espresso maker already, along with a French press).

We're signing the papers on the Traverse. So we're buying a new to us car.
Next week dh is going to talk to the people that did our furnace a couple of years ago abut a new AC unit. Since its estimated to be 50 years old, it's due. We're guessing that will be $4K.

My wife and I may buy a car today, 2017 Honda Accord Touring.
It is listed on inventory, if it is there, we will buy it.
Against O.C. better judgement ( I am going to do a Phil, He is so smart!)
Instead of pulling money out of an account that is making more money, Honda will finance the car at interest 0.9%.

Last week, actually: $300+ on taking DH, DS and my dad to an MLB game. $250 for tickets (there was a foul that landed right in front of us); $40 on a couple of baseball caps, $25 parking, and heaven only knows how much on concessions. Whatever. Good game enjoyed by all. And it's damn hard to get DH something he actually wants (was a late birthday present). My credit card is probably still reeling from the trip last week too.

His grandfather used to bring them home from Hanscom. He was in heaven! Bleah. I wasted at least $40 in produce. I'm trying to make sure it's what I snack on instead of shitfood. Lately my version of junk is Fiber One lemon bars. Love them!! Trying hard to lose 60 pounds. I've only lost about 5 or 10 so got a ways to go.😒

so! I received a $500 peer to peer reward/ award added to my pay for doing a great job at work! (1) I'm getting another tattoo {100% waste of money} (2) another pair of Ear Buds - but this time name brand Ear Buds see! this is a waste of money because. the pair I originally had for say 3 to 5? years? finally broke last year. this pair was perfect with super bass and highs. and of course. when I went to purchase them again. the manufacturer stopped making them. on my search. I have purchased 2, no name, pair of Ear Buds. but the first pair plays highs. despite the description reads plays super bass. the second pair does play super bass with somewhat highs. now currently I purchased a pair of Ear Buds from Sony! perfect! I guess the other two are going to be spares? (3) a second fan! I am just getting lazy! instead of moving the one fan I have from room to room. I am just gonna get a second fan.

The other day, I was air conditioning the outside DS was working day shift, I was working nights. He left for work, shortly after I went to bed, and didn't get the door shut all the way. When I went upstairs around 2, it was 80 degrees in the house (over 100 outside). The poor ac was working as hard as it could, but four hours later it was only able to cool it down to 77. That one was definitely a no-fun waste of money.

I have no idea what malachite eggs are... I wish we had more "ethnic" food places in my town!
Partial waste... I booked bus tickets to go to the Oregon Shakespeare Festival in August. The total price ends up a little over what gas money would cost. However, it only gets us as far as Medford (about 15 miles from Ashland). After that, we can take a regular bus to Ashland, probably just a few dollars. However, on the way back, the bus won't run that early, so we'll have to take a taxi.
Oh, well. We drove last time, but it is a long drive and takes over 6 hours (with no stops). Now that I no longer commute, I hate long drives (if I have to be somewhere, but if it's driving to just drive, I don't mind). So, more expensive than driving, but I figure it's time for me to relax, watch a movie, play a card game with the kiddo, stuff like that. And I don't have to be the one getting pissed off at stupid drivers! The town is so small, and parking so hard to find, that we just left our car parked by our room last time. Our hotel is less than half a mile from the stages, and we can walk to all the restaurant/stores.
I would have flown, but DS hates flying. When it's just me, I'm going to fly. Probably.

I am hemorrhaging money on Kindle books. Probably could find some of them cheaper at the used bookstore, but the main use is reading them on the iPad in the dark bedroom while waiting for DS to fall asleep, for which paper books are less useful. Of course I picked series, plural, where they're $10 a pop or worse...(I tried kindle unlimited for a while, but I'm too choosy about what I want to read.) Oh well, I tend to reread ad nauseum so maybe I'll get my money's worth.

It is super convenient to have reading material literally in the palm of your hands, though. I'm still at the stage where I am downloading free books, or choosing books from my Amazon Prime account. I don't get my favorite authors, and can't be really choosy, and some of the writing quality makes me roll my eyes. But it's free, I love to read so I'll read almost anything sometimes, and I have discovered some talented authors this way.

I don't care if you read a tech book for a machine that is not used anymore but the money spent to acquire that book is money well spent! Any kind of reading is educational in some ways. Hustler and Playboy included!

I paid $6 for a skull bracelet for DD from Ruby online bid dealie.
Other then that worked on hubbys truck. Done except for cleaning windows.
I scrubbed and scrubbed bugs, used gas to clean off tar, used cleaner wax on the wide chrome strip all around the bottom. It looks really good, was very dirty. Also vacuumed out the garage.
Getting ready to cook. All the money I've spent so far today.

Possibly worse: reading the one Kindle series makes me want to go back and reread the ginormous predecessor series. I probably have most of those in paperback, therefore not electronic--although I had a nasty habit of passing those on to my dad or MIL (back when she was still fun to talk to), so maybe I don't have as many as I think. Hm, maybe the library has them in electronic format. Also, I spent far too much on groceries this weekend. It was generally for good cause, but I'm still wincing at $8 for 2 lb of extra-organic strawberries...extra-organic because they were in a much more advanced state of decomposition than I realized prior to purchase Also annoyed that I bought expensive butter at the organic store (went there for a specialty item) reasoning that it'd save me a trip elsewhere...except nine hours later I made an emergency trip to Giant. Bah.

I'm going to Greenland. I'm booked to go to Iceland next month and was looking at excursions. DH and I had picked up a brochure on day trips to Greenland when we were there in 2015. We didn't do it then but I just booked it! I "collect" countries; added Panama and Costa Rica to my list in April and now I can add Greenland! There goes $590.91 of DS' inheritance.

Bought Bombas socks. They're pricey but since I've started exercising and walking again, I figure they're worth it.
