It’s actually cheaper to have a signature drink. I’m going to put a huge kibosh on alcohol as well.

It’s actually cheaper to have a signature drink. I’m going to put a huge kibosh on alcohol as well. I pretty much agree with not having open bar all night or just serving beer and soft drinks. I think my DH said that even soft drinks were not free. Most weddings I have been to, open bar was right up until you were seated for dinner, then you had a "last call" and people got a drink to take to the table (for the toast). Most weddings I have been to in the last 20 years or so, have served wine or Champagne for a toast at dinner. I just think that a "signature drink" speaks more to a "drinking culture", that I have never participated in. I usually only drink 2-3 drinks at the most. I only very rarely have done shots.
I will have nothing little to say about it though, my DH will do what he wants.

A lot of couples these days have a signature drink as the only liquor, then have beer and wine as well. It saves on having the full bar, but doesn’t seem as “cheap” as going the beer/wine only route. My sis and her husband are giving bottles of booze for birthday and Christmas gifts this year. The bottle of gin I’m getting had 2 drinks poured from it. (Pretty sure they were both mine, too, although I only remember drinking one. But I don’t remember much after the bridal dance...) it was a waste of money for them to buy as many different kinds of alcohol as they did. There were several bottles/types that had only a couple of drinks poured. BIL has a spreadsheet that shows how much money they saved by buying the liquor themselves, instead of paying the caterer’s price though.

A lot of venues won’t let you bring in your own liquor

I’m so over these destination weddings that give no consideration for guests. I witnessed the lack of consideration when DH’s bio had her wedding at a ridiculous expensive resort. Even surrounding areas were horribly priced. It easily cost guests $500 just to attend and that was if they only stayed one night. The middle of nowhere. DD is talking Savannah. Very nice but not major airport and nowhere near either of us. People that live in my area, like her friends as well as mine, it’ll be hard on them to travel there and expensive. So 90% of the guests will be inconvenienced. Ridiculous. Honeymoon there then but get married at home. And this is the reason why we chose to elope. If I planned a wedding, it would be where I live. However, it would have been a destination for every single family member.....with them needing to travel anywhere from 200-3000 miles. I halfway thought about if everyone was going to have to fly, then we’d do it someplace cheap in Mexico. Then we got the problem of when to do it and the only time that was good was the week between Christmas and New Years, which is prime time at Mexican resorts. Brides simply cannot win. Someon3 is going to bitch. My niece is getting married at a resort on Vancouver island next weekend. Between ferry, resort for 3 nights, boarding the dog, meals and a wedding gift, we are going to easily blow $1000.

Brides simply cannot win. Someon3 is going to bitch. It's really unfortunate people can't just be happy for the couple. Weddings are expensive and stressful and bring up a lot of family tensions no matter what you do. No one ever seems to blame the groom either.

An iPhone.
IN MY DEFENSE.... my current phone has been problematic for a long time and I had been casually looking for a replacement for a few months. The phone I just bought is an iPhone 6 unlocked for Verizon for $150, so it's likely refurbished. Whatever, as long as it works like it should, I'll be happy.

That's a perfectly acceptable price point for a phone in your situation. I was getting prepped to ream you for spending $1000 on an iphone X, or worse, leasing one through the phone company.

You should be fine- I have a 4-year old iPhone 5, bought new, and (knock wood) it's still in working order. When the sad day comes that it's not, I'll probably do what you did and replace it with a newer but not up-to-the-minute model.

I like flavored coffee but the brands at the grocery store are either more expensive for the same size, or they charge the same but the package weighs a couple of ounces less. So, I headed over to Marshall's (TJX is similar) and got 16 oz. of French Almond Macaron for $4 and 12 oz. of Maple Bourbon for $5. They had tons of Pumpkin Spice, which I avoided. Who knows what chemicals they put in these coffees to flavor them but I like them. Added a container of Spicy Paprika and some black bean pasta. Total damages: $17.
Big Lots is another place where I like to explore the food section- I've gotten sauces and relishes made in Latvia and Bulgaria!

What happened? Its a dangerous time of year, especially for people like me who tend to under-hydrate if not thinking about it.

I will add one to the list and that is Tuesday Morning.

funny - just could not resist! I wasted my money on two large Yankee Candles scented jars I have had before. so I knew they have a great relaxing scent. $10 cheaper per jar. 1 box of 24 Tropicana 3 different flavored juices 1 box of 24 different peanuts packs.

The higher cost grocer hit my target price on tuna packets of $1. The eggs might have been over priced.
I bought gasoline at the 12 cents off Sunday.

I wonder if it is a waste of money to pay for an item. that is in a store less than 20 minutes away? versus ordering the same item on-line for cheaper? that would arrive in two days tops delivered home.

More HINT water. But I hate plain water so this makes me drink water happily. On super sale at Winn Dixie.

DH bought 2 cases of flavored water when prepping for the hurricane that didn’t hit us. I tried the lemon flavor and it’s gross. Tastes like it has an artificial sweetener in it, but it doesn’t. I’m going to give it to the kids. The grandkids will drink it I’m sure.

Depends on how much you want it now. I tend to buy most things in person because I don't like to pay extra for shipping. Is the gas to the store less than the shipping you are going to pay to get it in two days?
Also if its something important like I ran out of Zrytec, I'd rather spend more locally than suffer for a few days. YYMV.

Sorry Opti I think you want in to a different direction with your answer to the question. question - is it a waste of money if when I go to the store and say the item is a candle that costs $32.70 at the register? when I can make an on-line purchase for the same item with next day or two day delivery for $21.30? Hmmm. i'll rephrase - is it a waste of money to pay extra for something to get it now compared to having to wait a day or 3 to get the same item later?

Hmmm. i'll rephrase - is it a waste of money to pay extra for something to get it now compared to having to wait a day or 3 to get the same item later? Z, it depends what it is. In your candle example I'd wait. When I desperately need Olive Leaf extract for my sinuses, I often pay a couple dollars more close by instead of trying to buy it at the optimal price & place. Not Being sick for a couple more days or sicker than I need to be, is often worth the extra cost. For something I don't need right away, or don't care how quick I get it, I usually buy on price. Does that help?
Is your total cost including two day delivery $21.30?

Three bottles of whisky from Cadenhead's in Edinburgh. Straight from the cask, no mixing even in the same malting, no dilution, no filtration. Extraordinary stuff you can't buy in the US. Total $270.

You gonna drink it all before you come home? Isn’t that a bit over your alcohol allowance? <says the person who has exceeded this allowance TNTC> Our next trip is going to be Ireland and the Whisky Trail. I’m guessing we are going to waaaay exceed what we should bring back duty free.

I am still bitter about the Spanish hot sauce that I had to give up at JFK. It cost me a pretty penny too.

9 pairs of socks to replace 1 holey pair. I had way, way too many before this, but am on a no show binge, and that supply is limited.
