I planted tomatoes in containers this year. I put them on the roof where they would get plenty of sunshine, because my yard is in too much shade. You should have seem me going up the stairs lugging water when I hurt my back. The plants were full of tomatoes, and I was so pleased. The raccoons or squirrels stole every single one before they were ripe.

My tomatoes sucked this year. Onions did amazing. I also got a lot of spaghetti squash. Broccoli and zucchini were ok.

A lot of the local farmers threw away more than they sold because the tomatoes did not form properly. They were mushy inside or had a tough core.

Our old house was stone and my tomato bed was right next to the house getting the south sun which also reflected off the stone, heated the stone...hot, hot. They loved it. You are supposed to rotate tomatoes, but I never had a worm infestation there, fertilized with compost and mushroom soil every year and they grew humongous with tons of fruit.
