Snopes and factcheck debunked on Obama

Most of us, including some, (but by no means all), of the liberal media, are asking why has Obama gone to South America during this tenuous time in our history?

But was it Snopes or Factcheck that plagerized the other in their explanations for the trip to Brazil while the pot in middle east boils over?

Maybe it was to congratulate them on getting the Olympics after he snookered the US out of the deal for them. . . . Or was it something more? Oil maybe? Brazil using American money to drill for oil closer to the US, , , , maybe?

It's a long read, but it puts Obama in perspective. Here is part of it.

Why is he promoting offshore drilling for Brazil and committing more dollars to that effort, when he has shut off our drilling in the Gulf of Mexico and North America? Questions need to be asked. Congress needs to be asking these questions, forcing answers and not accepting the mis-mash answers that this
administration, to include the president, always provides.

..........instead of preventing the Petrobras deal from going through, the Ex-Im bank raised the value of the preliminary loan from $2 billion to $10 billion (that is still with a “B”). According to the Latin American Herald Tribune:

The U.S. government is preparing to provide up to $10 billion in loans to finance the development of massive hydrocarbon reserves off Brazil’s coast thought to contain 80 billion barrels of high-quality crude, an amount that could lead to a six-fold increase in Brazil’s current proven reserves and transform that nation into one of the world’s 10 largest oil producers. [my emphasis]

So this loan is meant to help Petrobras become an oil powerhouse. And…

President Barack Obama’s national security adviser, Gen. James Jones, discussed the matter with officials this week [August 2009] during a visit to the South American country, Brazilian Planning Minister Paulo Bernardo da Silva told reporters.

…In case you were still wondering how much control or oversight the Obama administration had over any of this.

The $10 billion figure, by the by, matches the Chinese government’s loan to Brazil, which, Snopes makes sure to point out, was five times the amount of the Ex-Im loan

Lame duck Presidents often go on inexplicable foreign trips. They might as well, since nobody listens to them at home. Perhaps Obama has accepted his role as one term President and has started his lame duck act earlier than his predecessors.

That is probably the case JH -- and for the record, I didn’t vote for the President, but it is my hope that [HE] went to Brazil in an effort to "DO OIL DEALS” in our hemisphere and get us the hell out of all the Arab countries. I think you get your wish. But the tea leaves are saying that even though the oil wells will be in our own front yard they will not be OUR wells, and the oil coming out of them will be owned in part by China. And what do we get for the 10 BILLION? At todays interest rates I hope we get enough to pay the interest we will owe on the 10 billion we borrowed from China in order to lend it to Brazil.

I am still wondering if our own oil is less efficient than everybody else's. We sure make a lot of "friends" by using theirs instead of drilling for our own, don't we?

But, , , , maybe it's the cost of American labor, from the owners, the managers and the labor force, to produce it that keeps us buying from everybody else. Heck, what would a gallon of gas cost if it was all produced and refined at American plants with American labor costs?

Looking at it that way, maybe we should stop bitching and be glad instead. At least, when everybody else runs out, we'll still have our own oil.

patstab..you are correct...." the oil drilled in the Gulf does not belong to the United States, as per the sweetheart agreement that our government has with the oil industry, the oil extracted from the Gulf belongs to the oil companies that drill for it, and they are free to sell it to anyone on the open global oil market."

Drill Baby Drill, would of course be my first option. We have everything in this country we need to be ‘energy’ self-sufficient. Buying oil from other countries is all about politics and kick-backs IMO: the word Kleptocracy comes to mind.

The oil industry needs jobs.
