If the Democrats in the Senate did vote for him this time, it is obvious they would have to force the nuclear option on the next Trump pick since it would replace a liberal judge with a conservative judge, assuming no conservative judge dies or resigns in the next year. There were reports Judge Kennedy was retiring this summer, and he was a swing vote slightly leaning with the the liberal leaning judges. I do not think it mattered much whether the Nuclear option was imposed this time rather than next time. It does address the issue whether there will be any cooperation with this President. NADA, ZIP, ZERO........Chance of it happening.

So, the GOP plans to implement the nuclear option. Fine, but what happens when the Democratic Party has control, votes in THEIR choice of a Supreme Court Judge? How much gnashing of teeth will we see from the GOP when that happens? (It's only a matter of time.)

Pretty much what happened between January, 2009 and January, 2017. Well the first four years the democrats held the hammer to their heads, and did as they pleased. I guess since the Republicans did the party of no thing, it is ok for the Dems to do it now, even though they are the minority party in all three positions and soon to be the minority in the Supreme Court as well.

Yup, Trump & his minions are going to own the entire mess.
I agree that the Founding Fathers are spinning in their graves, especially with everything going on since January.

No. This mess is all OURS, collectively, as a country... because we couldn't get our collective shit together and nominate good, upstanding and QUALIFIED people, and most of us couldn't be bothered to not waste our votes. And the saddest part... this problem isn't new. "The mess" that is modern day Washington DC, started decades ago.

Both parties own this.
Sen. Reid drew first blood. Now the GOP is about to show they're equally short-sighted.

Because I don't see that any of the finger pointing for the past decade has done anything other than escalate the mess and cause the rhetoric to go hyperbolic on both sides.

The back and forth is going to go on indefinitely until a president and congress are elected who appeal to both parties. I surely don't see that happening in my remaining lifetime.

I fully admit the Republicans did it, just as the Democrats did it. Two wrongs do not make it right. By all accounts Gorsuch is a good judge. If the Republicans do not go nuclear, how will we ever appoint another Judge to the Supreme Court? The Democrats will never accept anyone right of Montemayer and company and she is not that far far left to begin with, and vice versa for the Republicans. Eventually we will be down to one Judge making the decisions for us. A Justice such as Kennedy will never make it to the court at this rate.

So, you think there's no possibility the voting population will at some point decide enough is enough and force their elected officials to start working together? For some reason, I find that more depressing than watching what is happening in Washington.

This will not happen until one party elects such a massive majority and starts acting like a Russian Oligarch with the American public, and they are voted out of office. If the Republican party would vote as one bloc, as the Democrats do, the agenda they want would be accomplished, and would be voted out in the next election possilbly electing enough people of principal, and a coalition between two parties could rule.

So do we all just give up and wait for the next civil war to happen? Or do we all decide that we will, individually, attempt to stop pointing fingers, open dialogues with those we don't agree with, and force our government leaders to do the same? I'm not much younger than you Tennesseer, but I do remember a time when all of us were more civil to each other. Does change start at the top or does it start at the bottom? Value Buy, I'd like to see that coalition, I just don't know how to get there.

But We put on our "ol" horse blinders, mosy down the political road, Acting like We know what is best for every one else!!!
