In my younger days, I probably would have been the tourist that wanted to make that treck I find it hard to believe with the volcano being active lately and with ice and snow near the top of it, that officials allowed people to climb very high at all during those conditions. thanks for moving the thread. I saw "General" and just assumed this was general news type board, and did not realize the actual board category.

The CBS evening news had much more video of the incident. It was sort of scary. A woman fell down with her jacket or winter vest type, smouldering on her back. Late she posed with it showing part of all burned away. She was lucky.

You may accuse me of hijacking the thread but... did you know that snow leopards can cause these kinds of geothermal events?
Kill a lot of people.
Very tragic.
Very likely what happened here, although it's technically possible the eruption occurred "for no reason".

Is Mt Etna the longest running active volcano in the world in modern civilization's history? Seems it has been active since the earliest of recorded time.

If that doesn't give you chills, I don't know what will.
