Seventy-nine. But all those years of hard living and many, many illnesses and operations really took a toll on her. I always liked her, in spite of the multiple marriages and the crazy life. Such a grand dame. She lived life and loved well. Rest in peace, Dame Elizabeth. A real-life diva has left the building.

I hope I can catch some of those movies; Giant and A Place in the Sun are worth watching again. I know she received an Oscar for Butterfield 8, but I did not think it was one of her best. Cleopatra was just over the top. And just for the sake of sentimentality, I would probably watch National Velvet again.

Well, to say that she lived life to the fullest would probably be an understatement.

She lived as she wished to live, and had the courage to do so in spite of what others might say. There's something to be said for that. RIP, Grand Dame. You did it your way.

So sorry to hear that. I always loved her too - Giant and Little Women are two of my favorite Liz Taylor movies. Young Elizabeth Taylor was about the most beautiful woman I'd ever seen.
Diva, maybe - but she could poke fun at herself too, like showing up on things like The Lucy show and the Nanny.
RIP, indeed.

I think that she was one of the prettiest Hollywood stars in her younger days. From what I have heard kind of insecure which I've seen in a lot of very pretty women. She did make some great movies too.
RIP!

I meant in the old-style, glamorous Hollywood way, not the current look-at-me-'cause-I'm-a-sorta-star divas we have today.
Sorry, I should have explained better.
I like the real movie queens who had some mystery and style to them. Not that their lives lacked scandal, but it wasn't the cheap kind, like getting out of your limo minus your undies. Taylor, Garbo, Dietrich, Hayworth, Crawford, Kelly, Hepburn, etc., would never have walked into their hairdressers and shaved their heads in front of the papparazzi, or stumbled out of a nightclub crawling on their knees in a drugged stupor.

Not a legit comparison. Today's future legends don't do that either.

I remember Liz having guest appearances on both The Nanny & Murphy Brown - she was hilarious over-acting herself and her Diva persona.

Nancy,
I totally agree with you then regarding the old style glamorous hollywood legend type Diva.
SL - I remember the Nanny, but not Murphy Brown guest appearance.
Does anybody else remember when Lucille Ball (in the Lucy show)got Liz's huge diamond ring stuck on her finger and was behind a curtain - behind Liz holding out her hand - it was silly fun.

...RIP... ...granted, I was disappointed at the Drudge headline, "The Last Movie Star" and I was like, what about Lauren Bacall? Shirley Temple? or Kirk Douglas? Mickey Rooney? ...we still have some silver screen greats to listen to, if we're still willing to hear...

Liz Taylor was asked why she had so many lovers and husbands and she said "What do you expect me to do sleep alone"...and I think she was a very good actress in addition to her beauty. The first picture I saw her in was "Butterfield 8" and thought she was an unbelievable beauty..

Not a legit comparison. Today's future legends don't do that either. And exactly who are today's future legends? The ones that aren't flashing pantiless and crawling out of bars. I'd say women like Halle Barry and Julie Roberts amongst others.
