So sorry, Iggy aka IG! I feel your pain. Last Fall they moved up the time by one hour for the closing on Mom's house. I got the message, but the buyers didn't. It still went through (only because I trusted the agent I used, as I've known her for years). The agent ran the check over to my house when the buyers were done signing. I definitely wasn't comfortable until the check was in my hands.

Buying a house is such a roller coaster and I hate incompetence.

The seller signs at 10 and I sign at 11:30. I guess we can't be in the same room at the same time?

zibazinski, IDK if this is something new? I have an insurance client who signed the docs on the home they're selling this morning, and the buyer on Friday? Strange...

We had the seller sign before settlement and not have to show up for us to finish our part of the sale.

When we sold our house 10 years ago, I signed because I was the owner of record on Wednesday, and the buyers signed on Friday at my lawyer's office. A week later we bought a condo in a different state, and our closing was at the office of the contractor. A notary from the title company was present to explain the documents to us; the contractor who was part owner of the complex had signed the documents days earlier. Several years later, the signing of documents for our refinance was at the bank that would hold the mortgage. I loved that notary because he gave us a CD of the records instead of a million papers, and we signed on an iPad.

The 2nd house we purchased, the seller had signed their documents on Friday and we signed the Tuesday afterwards. They were leaving town before closing.
The last house we sold, we had them FedEx us the papers, sign and them notarized, and sent back to them in the next day or 2. We weren't going to be in the area for closing. Trying to get a copy with the buyer's signatures was a pain due to the closing person though.
With this house, the mortgage and title company have been a pain. I can't be there during normal business hours, and trying to get setup was a pain especially since closing should have been on the 15th (yes, I do realize more than a week has passed). I think it's straighten out now, but it's been a pain. I'll breathe easier once we have signed all the necessary documents and the keys are in our hands.

We have used Signex to buy and sell. The last home we bought up here, we the buyer and the seller were done separately. I'm thinking they have had arguments break out at closing and this works better. I can see it as some sales become conscientious. .

I get it if you're not in the same town but this isn't the case.

I just went through my first closing using the escrow process. I signed on a Wednesday, wired the money to escrow to arrive on a Friday, and asked the realtor when the house would be mine. She said it became final when the escrow company received the wire transfer. Unbeknownst to me, the sellers had done their part on Monday.
I would have to use two hands and maybe some toes to count how many houses I have bought and sold and this is the first time I didn't sit down at the closing table with everyone - buyers, sellers, attorneys, lender, and closer.
It's weird, but it works.
I was just thinking about you, zib, and wondering if you'd moved yet.

There is a well/cistern word usage in the appraisal the loan company has taken issue with and now I don't know if we'll close this Friday, or even this month. We move out of the hotel this Friday, and DH has movers scheduled for Saturday. NEVER AGAIN.

Now we wait to see if they take another 3 days. Meanwhile, I am over here attempting to breathe. ((grabs inhaler))
