Is anyone else here watching America's Top Dog on A&E? I just found it the other day and am watching the first 2 seasons on demand. What a fun show! I just love it! While it is pretty much geared to K9's I love seeing the civilian trained "Underdogs" competing in each show.

It is really hard to get good pictures of puppies when you don't have a camera that can process action shots. Here's a couple of Roggie and his great grandsons I took this evening. I don't know if you can tell but Chunk Norris at the front came with a covid mask

I was reading an article about a blind man who is a member of a Facebook group called Dogspotting Society. He asked the members to describe their dogs appearance and other qualities as he is unable to see their dog pictures and describing them might give him a better idea in his mind of them. The post got over 2,000 replies of descriptions. There are other dog pictures and stuff to look at if interested Here is a link to their Facebook page. I though of you guys when I saw this. One local community pool, on the day after they closed for the season, opened up the next day for dogs only. They filled the pool with tennis balls and turned them loose. There were many pictures on the website, but I thought this one captured the essence of the day. My dogs would have loved this...maybe next year.

Too many posters are showing their elderly or sick dogs who are going to be euthanized the next day. Makes me sad.

Last night with all 4 boys. Tomorrow after their second set of shots, Chunk Norris and King Bentley will be going to their new home (with new names).
The new owners have come to visit almost every evening since they picked Norris a couple of weeks ago. They even brought their daughters a couple of times (the puppy was supposed to be a surprise). They broke down on Thursday or Friday and decided they needed Bentley as well. I'm happy that they are going together.
Russ the Runt was bought at least a month or more ago but DH wouldn't let him go with them before their vacation. Russ has gone for a home visit where he fit in well. He leaves for good on Sunday.
To my total lack of shock, DH is keeping Bear. He's pretty laid back for a GS puppy so hopefully he won't fight with his Great Grandpa when he gets bigger. Right now almost 11 yrs trumps 4 mos but 12 yrs and 1 yr could get dicey. I don't expect to get to 13 yrs vs 2 yrs but I hope.
Right now DH has all 3 leaving puppies hanging with him on the couch. He really wants to keep them all but that is so not an option for so many reasons. We're only keeping Bear because I'm an idiot and, like DD says, DH will need another boy when Roggie's gone.
I have pictures. It's just such a production getting them from the phone to the computer to Village.Photo to here.

I would like to have all the puppies. Probably better to refrain however.

According to a print article she stopped to sniff a dead rabbit along the side of the road and stopped again to stare at some cows in a field.

Harper's owners should also add a folding chair for the petters to sit on especially for those 25 minute visitors..

I'm fostering to adopt. I won't post pics until she gets spayed and the adoption goes through. Who am I kidding? I don't know how to post pics and don't know when I'll figure it out.
She's a sweet little stray beagle. She doesn't respond well to her pound name (which we're keeping in order to minimize disruption.) Her first two placements failed, presumably because she did not get along with the other dogs in the household. She was aloof and standoffish at the pound but has gotten much friendlier (velcro-like) and more playful in the 24 hours that she's been here. As of now, she is quite quiet. She'll whine a bit when one of us leaves the house, but it's an indoor voice, at least for now. Her personality is changing so rapidly, that I'm almost afraid to mention how quiet she has been. I don't want to jinx myself.
She thinks that balls of yarn are balls and that hanks of yarn are dog toys. I'm pretty sure that won't change.
She was obviously loved by someone. If they'd chipped her, she'd still be with them.

general question here, bc I'm not really sure how to address the issue. thanks, COVID. sorry for the overshare. anyway...
in my newish place (1y), the living room is in the finished basement. I have WFH since 3/20, and don't spend a whole lot of time down here unless I need to watch something on the 70" screen as opposed to my phone (tonight is AL Wild Card game), or I'm parking myself on the couch for a day (I can count on one hand, with leftovers, how many times that has happened in the last decade). well, we just came in from what I'll call last outs at this hour. neither pup wanted to come back down so I put them both to bed. or so I thought. Punk followed me back down a few min later, and has been pouting.
how do I get them to come down here without me during the day (LD has been doing this in the last couple weeks, Punk has never...) and have them crash upstairs in their bed of choice, if I'm going to hang out downstairs a little longer? this was never a problem in the last house where my bedroom and the kitchen/LR were all on the same floor.

Dogs like routines and get frustrated when the routines change. I wouldn't worry too much about it, they will figure it out soon enough if they want to hang out with you, they will learn to venture into your new kingdom once and awhile.

Past and present dog owners, discuss. Do dogs miss us when we are gone? A "talking" dog offers insightsAny dog owner knows how hard it is to leave their pup for an extended period of time. We wonder: Do they miss us when we're gone? Do they know how long we've been gone for? Or even worse, do they think we've abandoned them? The way humans are excitedly greeted by their dogs upon return — and the way many whine when we leave — suggests they recognize our absence, and mourn it. However, it's hard to know what is really going on in a dog's brain — perhaps they just miss the food we give them? — partly because we can't really communicate with them. Well, most of them. Alexis Devine is the human parent of Bunny the "talking" dog. Bunny, a sheepadoodle, has been trained to communicate using a sound board with large buttons keyed to different words. By pressing them in sequence, Bunny can relay basic sentences and sentiments — "Bunny sad," or "where mom," for instance. Though there is debate over the extent to which she understands language, most animal behavior researchers and laypersons alike agree that she is positively communicating and seems to understand what she says and hears back. Devine shares videos of Bunny "talking" on her social media accounts, giving the internet a glimpse into what it might be like to have a casual conversation with Fido. Recently the beloved sheepadoodle has been concerning herself with the absence of people and animals in her life. And to answer the question about animals missing us when they are gone: if they are anything like Bunny, it would seem that yes, they are very curious about where we go when we leave. Devine recently filmed Bunny asking her questions about Uni, Devine's lost cat who has been gone for nearly four months. As Devine told Salon, prior to Uni's absence, Bunny didn't "talk" much about Uni. "It was maybe like two months before he went missing that she had finally finally used the buttons, 'Uni family together,' which was a huge accomplishment because they had had such a tenuous and challenging relationship," Devine said. "And then, last week, it was just heartbreaking, she pressed 'cat bye,' and I just about burst into tears. My little heart couldn't handle it." It's not the first time Bunny has appeared to wonder about some one or some animal while they're gone. A couple months earlier, Devine's partner Johnny was at work. "Where dad bye?" Bunny asked. Devine said Johnny worked from home all last year because of the pandemic. He's a high school teacher, and he's finally back to teaching in-person. "The first week that he was back at school in the classroom, Bunny was very much asking about Johnny, pressing 'Where dad?,' 'Where dad bye?' for a lot of the day, for several days in a row," Devine said.
