Yesterday I was walking on my treadmill and Jackson decided to join me. As soon as those front paws hit the treadmill, he went down. I had to hurry and turn it off so he didn't get stuck or tangled in it somehow. I suspect he won't be doing that again.

Olive and Mabel being conned into joining a gym... What's wrong with Mable's eyes? She has a clock and an arrow for eyes.

I posted this elsewhere, but this was today. windblown perfection of a sunny day on the water. my cheeks have windburn, and I'm absolutely okay with that. pups napped through my zoom call, and are still being lazy. tomorrow we are getting ~7" of snow, so we definitely wanted to get out there today.

Man Creates ‘Stick Library’ For All The Dogs At The Park It doesn’t take much to make a dog happy. If you give your dog a belly rub, a snack, or a good stick, they are pretty happy with life. Especially if they’re in the park chasing sticks. 59-year-old dog owner Andrew Taylor is very familiar with the joy that dogs derive from sticks. He has witnessed the excitement first hand from his own pet – and that is exactly what inspired his cute idea to create a “stick library” in his local park. Complete article here: Stick Library

I can't do that. Jackson is taller than me if he's on his hind legs.

We just adopted a puppy! 11 month old doberman mix. Super cute, friendly, and smart If I can figure it out, I'll post pictures. Day 2 of puppiness at our house. This isn't the first puppy we've adopted, but he is the first that's been more than a couple of months old when we got him. He's also the first doberman mix we've had. Our previous dogs have been labs, border collie mixes, and a great dane. All that to day we have experience with dogs of different sizes and temperaments, not total newbies. I'm looking for help, not judgement. Last night, the puppy became super protective of food and toys, to the point of growling at people walking by. It had been a really busy day (bath, long walk, much play) and this is a new place. I'm looking for advice on how to curb this behavior. He has safe spots in the main family room and in our bedroom. We are going to get a crate for him later today to help with feeling secure and to reinforce his safe spot (didn't before because we got him late on a Saturday and then stores were closed the next day for Easter). We are also going to get him signed up for training. Any other suggestions? The shelter we got him from said he does well with other dogs, which we can see from how he plays with the dogs across the fence. They also said he had gone home on a "trial run" with an inexperienced dog family and was brought back for "being too much of a puppy." The shelter had him playing with another doberman until that dog started being protective of food and water during play time. We're committed to this puppy! He's a good boy, but we all just need a little help.

Start feeding him by hand so he can associate people hands with giving instead of taking away. Then move to putting a few pieces in a bowl at a time. This way people hands in his bowl are a good thing.
Don't free feed him. When other dogs come over the food goes away. If other dogs have to eat there, they are fed separately. If he starts acting aggressively, he goes in the crate to think about his life choices. Not for long, just for a few minutes to reflect on why he's there.
How old is he?

If he starts acting aggressively, he goes in the crate to think about his life choices. Not for long, just for a few minutes to reflect on why he's there. How old is he? From what we can see from all of the paperwork, he's about 10 months old. He's pretty much been in shelters all his life, except for about a week when he went home with a family and they brought him back to the shelter. He's had some basic training at the shelter, but we'll keep working on that. Right now, he's an only dog. Everyone in the house is an adult. Got the crate today. He's been going in and out of it ok and has been napping in it throughout the day. We've been leaving the door open for now while we're home with him. He's on a feeding schedule of twice a day. Today has been better all around. No resource protection, we've been able to play with him and his toys without things being a power struggle. Food-wise, we've had him sit/stay while we give him some of his food, then moved to adding it to the bowl. He really wants to please. It's just been a while since we've had a puppy (10 years!) and never one that's spent so long in a shelter. We'll work through it. Thanks for the advice! Keep it coming. We want him to have a good life with us, so we need to learn!

Sounds like he's just been in communal living for a while and he's starting to realize that he doesn't have to share. Just tell him he's a good boy and watch for bad (learned) behavior to make sure everyone is fitting in together.
Also make sure you play with his face/ears and smoosh it around so he starts getting used to it. Start small and build up. I don't, but you could literally yank on the twins' ears/tail/face and they wouldn't blink.

Our great dane LOVED to get his ears cleaned (weirdo), so we definitely play with the ears. He's pretty easy going about his ears/feet. That, and his friendliness, were some of the things that impressed us when we looked at him to start with. He's ok with his tail, but it was broken before he went to his first shelter and healed at a really weird angle. He has an appointment with our vet next week for a check up and we'll talk about the tail. If it's not bothering him, that's fine, but we want to make sure he's not hurting.

I'm over puppies right now. T2 moved back home and she has two dogs. So we now have 4 dogs. It's a little crazy but not bad. Except that one of them refuses to poop outside unless you stand outside with him.
This morning he came in with the other dogs from a potty outing. I called him so I could go stand outside with him. He refused. I grabbed his collar to make him go out. He bit me. So I left him alone and guess who just pooped on the carpet T2 cleaned yesterday. She's gonna be pissed when she wakes up.

She'll put one of her front paws on your lap and if you hold it She'll stay with you and just hold your hand. She's such a goof.

I really enjoy hearing about Andi and her dogs. I love dogs and wish I were not allergic to cats. Your devotion to your new pup is so great to see! Good pup parents.

Trust me, there are days where I'd consider giving them to you. They're a lot of work and the make me so mad sometimes, but I really love them.
