Glad she's gonna be ok. Sad she's in pain. Hug her for me. Sending love from KC.

Pupper got a a lymphoma diagnosis yesterday. I contacted the local school of veterinary medicine's oncology unit yesterday but due to a recent spike in Covid-19 cases (and the holiday weekend) they are all kittywampus and are not even taking appointments for staging.
I need to know what stage my dog is in before making any decisions.
Do any of you know anything about this? When I google it, I am stymied by a thick layer of advertising and an equally thick layer of non-ads that might as well be advertising. Is there a discussion of this issue on this thread somewhere that you could point me to?
The dog has a cough and I'm expecting some very bad news. He's also approximately 12 years old. Any tips on comfort care and knowing when it is time would also be appreciated. He's nowhere near that time now but I have a sense that I will not recognize it when it comes and both he and I would benefit from some advice in that area too.

I’m sorry. I have no experience in lymphoma or last days (my first and only pup is only 6), but wanted to ask if there was someplace else you could go for the staging? Can your vet recommend someone else? We have a hospital associated with our state’s chapter of the ASPCA, maybe your state does as well? The diagnosis is sad, but the uncertainty must be very hard to bear.

has anyone actually had to use their pet insurance before? I have Trupanion policies for both my two, and I'm being told I pay up front and submit for reimbursement? I didn't think that's what "yes, we accept Trupanion insurance" would mean. 🤷♀️

Bearing in mind I'm in the UK.............. Doggie had her operation and the vet chased up the insurance for payment... the bill came back to me for the excess. Good job really.... because the insurance did try to wriggle out of it and it went to appeal.
Sorry.........Lots of kisses and cuddles...... and make the most of every day.

I got my twins back from boarding yesterday. I missed them so much! I'd never been away from them that long. It's good to have them back.

I can pick up the golden around 230. xrays are being sent to the radiologist for review, but initial read plus ortho exam is pointing toward a <something> ligament rupture in her knee. I'm doing the Dr Google freak out rn, looking up anatomy diagrams, and if it is the particular ligament I think I heard this Dr say, it looks luke it is attached to the tendon that has felt a bit loose the past few weeks. if that is what it is, she will need surgery. ugh.

My Aussie mix got lymphoma. She got it the first time I know now when she was five. It was a tumor underneath her leg and it was one solid mass easily removed. She stayed in remission till she was about 13 years old and it popped up again. From what I read about the breed once it pops up a second time that's it. It doesn't respond well to chemotherapy and tends to be more aggressive the second time.
She got diagnosed and we had to put her down within a couple months of each other. I am sorry to hear your doggy has it.
I'd try googling the specific breed or if he's a mix, both breeds and see what comes up. I also learned this way that stomach/liver cancer is very common in Basset Hounds which is what Leonard ended up passing from.

Feeling very excited! My dog buddy will be staying with me for a whole week starting Monday. Her people found a suitable rental at the beach, so they feel comfortable getting away for a bit. The best part is I get to spend lots of quality time with my fuzzy buddy.

How did the surgery consultation go, chiver78? as well as could be expected. torn ACL was confirmed, and I have an appointment booked for 8/6 at this clinic for a TPLO procedure. I also have a spot reserved for a TTA procedure at the first place. need to figure out which is the right one for my pup, so I can cancel the other appointment. anyone have experience with either of these procedures and the subsequent recovery? advice totally welcome, thank you!

Spent a whole week of quality time with my fuzzy buddy. I'm sure I enjoyed it a lot more than she did. She is very bonded to her people and missed them (her mom, in particular) very much. She was a perfect angel, though, and we had a pretty good week. Now it feels weird to eat my breakfast or dinner without being under intense observation lest the plate go into the dishwasher without first going to the dog for a preliminary "cleaning." Apparently, she missed her kitty friends (she lives with 4 cats) more than we expected (and they apparently missed her--as much as cats can miss anything). I'm told the reunion was very sweet and touching.
Now I have to go back to protecting myself from delivery persons, neighbors going in and out of their own house, random squirrels, and the occasional sketchy-looking leaf passing by.

DH has found a new place to take the dogs to swim. It's the same river he used to go to, just further downstream where fewer people go.
Our old man and little mama like to swim for sticks but the girls not so much. Stevie will swim as long as no one is paying attention but she comes back to shore if you notice. Molly doesn't like to go where she can't touch the ground so she usually just stands in almost chest deep water and watches everyone else. She's such a weirdo.

we are safely home, although it was an adventure to coax her OUT of my car when we got here. multiple bites of cheese, for sure. she sailed through every part of the process with flying colors, and the staff all love her. I think I found my new vet, it's a bit of a hike from where I am now, but it's a few towns away from where the new house is. works for me!
oh - and pet insurance? definitely recommend - procedure came in at $4350, insurance covered 90%.

bless rescues, for real. I was scrolling FB earlier, and saw a post in the group from the rescue where I got LD. it was a really graphic photo (captioned that the scene was cleaned up immediately after taking the pic for effect) of a pup in a bathtub with a large biological mess on puppy pads. apparently the pup was suffering from Parvo and had been surrendered by the idiots who purchased her as a plaything for their 5yo. she had no shots after getting to this family, and was in rough shape. cue ugly cry, and a request for the donation link. I thanked K for the work she does, and donated $100 to the rescue to help with this pup's care. LD is a Parvo survivor, and someone did just this same work for him back then.

So my old man dog, Roggie, is going to be a great-grandpa and his daughter, Lexie, is going to be a grandma.
DH's friend took the white male (J) from Lexie's second litter. Then he bought a black female from someone else.
The puppies are due sometime around the end of September. If I remember correctly, all black and all white are both recessive genes in German Shepherds. Dad needs to pass along the black gene to have black puppies so they shouldn't have any blacks. The white gene "masks" the colour. You can pay to have a test to see what colour your white shepherd carries. I don't know if they will end up with white puppies, black and tan/beige puppies (like Lexie and J's dad) or a mix of both.
If I get any pictures, I'll post them.
