Yes I did not get charge because I am a member.
Also, while I do use my debit card/credit card sometimes I prefer to use cash since it is quicker: cup of coffee, a pack of gums or something less than $10. So yes I have change, do I really need to calculate how much interests I lost on $119.74?
Also, my previous employer did not offer direct deposit and once I needed the money that same day instead of waiting for it to clear on my account so I went to "their" bank. My employes bank, Key Bank, wanted to charge me a fee to cash a check that one of their account holder held; because I was not a member. Yep, they charge to cash their own checks, so I decided to just with for it to clear on my account.

financialtexan-I agree with you most banks charge if you try to cash a check from a different bank and you are not a customer-makes perfect sense to me. But I also know that banks can't charge fees to cash their OWN checks regardless of whether you are a customer, because the person that wrote the check is.

So if you get change from these transactions, why don't you just use your change when you pay for the next transaction? I try to use up my coins whenever I pay cash and I rarely end up with more than $1 in coins. I know it's harder for a guy since you don't carry a purse, but is it really a big deal to put those few little coins back in your pocket with your cash when you empty your pants?

My point exactly. The same way that a random door knocker is not Cawiau's banking client. A random door knocker is not your bank's client either. Not sure what a random door knocker is or the relavance. Banks were probably getting shorted with taking in rolled coins from the public. When they take them, they weight the rolls... too much bother. Didn't your laundromat have a change machine? I still do laundry at the laundromat.... I mean someone you don't know, not a friend, relative or client walking up to you. Whether you are an individual, business or a bank. In very few instances are you required to do work for this person. And my laundry was in a 12 unit condo complex. I still remember those days. Run 4 loads of laundry at one time. And rolling coins is a waste of anyone's time. Banks have always told me not to bother, they need to re-count them anyhow. Only takes one hooligan with a roll full of slugs. Which brings us full circle to counting coins for people who aren't customers (ie untraceable).

It's easier for me to come home, empty out my pockets and drop the change in the flower vase . Before that, I used to drop change all over, when we moved from upstate to here, we found close to $200 in change I left all over the house during the 3 years we lived there. Yes, I have selected memory and tend to forget where I put things unless I make it a habit of just putting it in the same spot (flower vase)
