There are multiple hotels that are under investigation for price gouging or doing things like canceling existing reservations, without notifying anyone, and then re-renting the rooms for double the rate. linkI am just ready for this whole thing to be over. I am hearing rumors that our business may close for the day, fingers crossed. I do not want to deal with the people., traffic etc.

Flat out said it was because of the eclipse even though the eclipse would be over days before then.

And so it begins They are reporting large traffic backups in areas of central Oregon. Prineville backup Prineville has a population of about 9200 people. I read that the backup was up to 14 miles long. There are also reports of gas stations in the Bend area running out of gas already. Gas Shortages link

We were talking about that yesterday. I'm taking my computer home with me this Friday. I can always work from home. Traffic sucks on my route to work every day. We're right in the path of the eclipse too. One of the school districts is shutting down on Monday which I find stupid.

My boys talked me into going at the last minute. Could be a fun family trip or it could be a nightmare... who knows? In any case, there are no solar eclipse glasses to be had anywhere around here or online and I don't want to risk not finding any along the way, so I'm bringing welding helmets from work. That should make for some interesting family photos. If you're in the GA/SC area and you run across a small blonde lady and two skinny kids wearing welding helmets... that's us.

Check with the local library. I saw something about libraries being given glasses to distribute. I called my local library who told me that the ones they have were for their viewing event and redirected me to the visitors bureau who said I could get 2 per person. I sent Thing 2 and my niece and got 4 pair. They are the ISO approved ones.

My brother and his wife and four daughters (ages 13-21) are taking off from southern Minnesota at midnight tonight to drive to Nebraska. They were going to play it by ear, see where the clouds are, etc. They have an app to show them where they are relative to the totality path. My brother is an excellent amateur photographer who has lots of expensive camera gear along with new sun filters, so it will be interesting to see the photos he takes.

A solar eclipse isn't that rare. They happen around every 18 months. The last total eclipse to cross the total width of the lower 48 states of the U.S. (Pacific ocean to Atlantic ocean) was in 1918. So yes, it is rare. Total eclipses that cross a section here and there of the lower 48 states is more common.

WOW. Pretty narrow window. I would say anytime from start to finish with reruns of videos. Full coverage on multiple p latforms.

A total solar eclipse happens somewhere on the planet every 18 months. It is a popular misconception that the phenomenon of a total eclipse of the sun is a rare occurrence. Quite the contrary. Approximately once every 18 months (on average) a total solar eclipse is visible from some place on the Earth’s surface. That's two totalities for every three years. www.space.com/25644-total-solar-eclipses-frequency-explained.html

My wife has managed to suck any possible joy out of the event. The latest was this morning with a report from "an eye doctor" that even the glasses are no guarantee. They might not fit right. Manufacture flaw. Etc, etc, etc. Be afraid, be very afraid.

Oh, well, I'm using the glasses and I'm viewing Me too. Although husband forgot his and I did feel obligated to call this grown man and tell him he can't look at the sun now, because he will be tempted! I love him, but he's really not all that mature about some things.
