Doesn't everyone use this button like I do ? This button >> << 5th one over, third set. I use this, and then quote my most recent past post and adjust the numbers to reflect the update. But, as you know, I don't know how to add, move, or delete columns and rows. So sometimes I have to start over. Advise?

That's the tricky part cause it means messing with code. I just do it and toggle back and forth between Visual and BBCode on the bottom lower left side. BBCode shows the coding format where Visual shows me what it looks like.

DH doing better now, but he has to get an IV antibiotic every 2 days at the hospital, which charges for parking beyond 30 minutes. $5 for 30 - 60 minutes; $8 for anything more. Or there's a 7 day parking pass, $20. His infusion takes about an hour. Any day I don't pay (because of live parking/moving car) is more for the pot. I really hate paying for hospital parking.

Glad your DH is doing better. Ask in the office where he is getting his treatment if they validate parking tickets, or if the hospital will waive parking while he is getting treatment. I have found that sometimes they validate parking tickets, but they don't bother to tell you unless you ask. Is there a free parking lot close to the hospital? Where I live, lots of people park at the pharmacy across the street from the hospital. -movinonup

Thank you, movinonup. They don't validate, no - good idea, though. If I am careful with timing I can move the car out and in again, avoiding a fee, or sometimes find a parking spot among the very few free handicapped slots out of the lot, in front of the hospital. The difficulty with parking further away is both finding a spot (very difficult) and getting DH reasonably close to the hospital. Walking is a problem for him. The closest entrance by the infusion center is right off the parking deck.

We just got our tax refund back. Much of it will go toward paying off medical bills we have had lingering for the past year, paying the last little bit of our cc debt off, & the rest will go into savings to rebuild our EF & other funds. When the dust settles & after DH & I finally sit down to figure out the game plan for it, I might get my totals posted... Its been a crazy few days, we had our home Powerlifting meet yesterday & the days leading up to it are always so hectic, the day of it is a scramble & the aftermath is pure exhaustion. But now I'm wide awake & cant sleep. Right before Thanksgiving, my mom's brother passed away unexpectedly. It was such a shock to us all. He kept to himself, he only spoke to my grandparents, I haven't seen him in close to 20 years. Well, he was not married & worked all the time, & invested all of his money very wisely. He left my grandparents a huge amount of money. I'm talking amount like he had to have won some lottery at some point in his life. So my grandparents, who are in their 90's, told me that they don't need this huge amount of money he left them & they want to pay off our student loans for us. We have had to refinance these loans twice b/c we couldn't afford the payment when we were younger, so we have been paying these damn things for far too long. Plus DH just got his Masters a few years ago. I just can't imagine not having a student loan payment anymore. Plus they said they are setting up trust funds for each of their great grandkids to pay for college. I'm in shock. Stuff like this doesn't happen to us. This happens to other people, the lucky people that the good things always happen to, which is definitely NOT US!!! If it weren't for bad luck, we wouldn't have any luck at all! I'm just so thankful & blessed to have such wonderful grandparents & my uncle who was a hermit in life, but is taking care of his family even now.

TheHaitian - 02/28/17 : $11,666.59 -----> Goal : $42,500
A few things : -> My wife retirement contributions will probably more than double what has been projected. We were expecting her to take 6 months maternity leave this year (5 months straight and 1 month combined with 2-3 days work week) but what we were not expecting was for her job to continue taking money out for her retirement contributions. So we calculated only 6 months worth of contributions.... -> I had to take $200 out of my car fund to help with some shortfalls this month and will probable have to take some out of the Savings account in March. Projecting between $500-$1,000 and hopefully stays under $1,000 (car insurance renewal, some bills that came higher than expected etc). -> Also depending on how much my bonus is in March and also how much we should be expecting for our tax return (if any vs owing) we might take even more out of saving to retire the 3k balance once and for all (on the daily use card) and also pay some medical bills. -> Still have not pulled the trigger on the HSA, as stated before waiting on : bonus (how much), tax refund (if any) and go from there. ----> Called the hospital and they can allow us up to 12 months at 0% interest or 18 months if push come to shove (I believe I posted about that). That is all for February!! Account | Account Goal | Account Balance | Spent Money | Total Saved | Difference | % Goal | Savings | 9,250.00 | 3,000.00 | 0.00 | 3,000.00 | 6,250.00 | 32.43% | Car Fund | 2,500.00 | 1,000.00 | 200.00 | 1,200.00 | 1,300.00 | 48.00% | C - Retirement | 18,000.00 | 3,752.67 | 0.00 | 3,752.67 | 14,247.33 | 20.85% | S - Retirement | 6,000.00 | 2,138.44 | 0.00 | 2,138.44 | 3,861.56 | 35.64% | HSA Account | 6,750.00 | 1,575.48 | 0.00 | 1,575.48 | 5,174.52 | 23.34% | TOTAL | 42,500.00 | 11,466.59 | 200.00 | 11,666.59 | 30,833.41 | 27.45% |

So, I'm a glutton for punishment and have added another goal. In my constant struggle to motivate my son, I have resorted to bribery. He wants to build a gaming computer and I told him that at the end of the spring semester I'll give him $200 for every A and $100 for every B towards the purchase. Now, I've been tossing around the idea of getting one for a couple of years, and it would be a family computer in the dining room, so not really just getting him a big ticket item for doing something he should be anyhow, but it's giving him some control over the budget amount. When building your own a few hundred makes a big difference. For the update, I got my federal and state tax refunds and my bonus at work, so tons of extra money this month to throw at goals. I seriously don't know how I'm going to pull off the rest of this year with the big vacation coming up in July. It appears my budgeted amount is not going to be enough to cover the entire thing. I don't vacation much and there were so many hidden expenses I didn't think about. Fund | 2017 Goal

minnesotapaintlady Don't stress out. Things will work out. Can you adjust your categories or reallocate funds you already saved for something else that is later in the year to cover vacation now? Also, I always forget that during the time I am on vacation, I have some extra money that I would normally be spending at home that week or weeks....like food, gas, entertainment, etc. It is is my regular budget but I am not home then, so that can be reallocated as spending while on vacation...does that make sense? For example, I usually have $50 for gas a week, $100 for food each week, $25 for entertainment each week. If I am gone 2 weeks, I have $350 that I can allocated to be used while on vacation. Good luck! Teachermom

I just think it's going to be way over the amount I'd spend on gas and groceries. LOL But, yes. That will help some. No childcare those weeks either.

minnesotapaintlady Daycare is probably a huge savings amount. Didn't think it was going to totally cover it but was trying to help you find ways to cover it. Teachermom

I'm waiting to see what happens on March 10th, before I commit to any budget. Food here is going up so I added $40 more to my monthly food budget, so now I budget $340 every month for food for myself. I've been thinking about increasing this budget since last summer, so it's not a sudden thing, but it is needed.
So I'm in a waiting mode and I'm okay with that for now.

I think I have my totals figured out finally. Our EF & medical $ is in the same savings account. The majority of the medical will get spent in the next few months & I'm actually saving a bit more for our deductibles once that portion is spent. It makes sense to me. Again, we have no clue where we will be going on vacation/honeymoon, but we think we want to travel far since we never go anywhere, so we are saving big for airfare, hotels & passports. We will have to replace a car soon, DH's car is an '01 & is in need of constant repairs. Once we get our debt paid off, we will be able to save at a higher pace. Non-number monthly update! STILL not moved into the new house. Our building permit expires in April, so it better be done/inspected by then or some contractors are going to feel our wrath, lol. I hope to have some good news for next month's update. The numbers are holding steady; we're not going into debt, but not saving anything yet either (again, except for maxing retirement). Still hoping to have some definite goals set up soon after moving. Good work! to everyone for continuing/adding to their savings!

just realized I haven't chimed in here in awhile (or put in calendar savings since before leaving for my cruise. oops ) this morning, I threw in for weeks 7, 8, and 9 - which is this coming Saturday. so I am up to date through 9 weeks of calendar savings - $45. I am waiting to hear back from my accountant regarding my tax return. typically, I'll owe the Commonwealth of Massachusetts <$10 and will get back from Federal ~$1100-1200. I'm also expecting a review at work in the next couple weeks, where I'll also find out bonus/raise information. I already got a 10% kick by moving to second shift (which was immediately allocated to paydown, I've never allowed myself to think I actually have that $ in hand) and the bonuses here are pretty sweet. what I'm planning to do with all of that is to put $1k back into my high-yield savings account and throw the rest at one of the many credit cards I have at the moment. if I can get an "empty shell" again, I can start with using balance transfer offers to pay down balances more quickly. just turtling along, with both pay down and saving!

Like I said before, I think I got a little too "save all the money" when setting my goals for this year. With the continuing expenses of the addition/renovations on our house, the goals just were not realistic. I've made some adjustments that I believe are more attainable, some of the balances have gone up and some have gone down. I just keep telling myself that even one dollar saved is progress.

February was a spendy month, and March will be too. Fortunately, I received my tax return and was able to throw that at some of my savings goals. All of the spendy things that are happening in March (1st tattoo appointment, trip to Boston, work trip, wedding that I am in the bridal party of that is 6 hours away) have thankfully already been saved for, so hopefully I'll get the opportunity to keep plugging along at some of these other goals. I'm hoping that once March is over and the spending slows down (fingers crossed) that I will be able to be more aggressive with some of my savings goals, particularly the Tiny House and Next Vacations ones! Maybe I will even be able to start planning other savings goals. My savings goals for this year have not been too difficult so far. I have been having to save like crazy for the last 2.5-3 years for various things, so I wanted to take some of that pressure off for a little bit.

Haitian: I agree it is so depressing to see all of that savings gone, but I also agree that it is so much better to have it saved for reasons like your daughter or an emergency. And you have an excellent reason to spend your money. Do you have to spend it all? Will the hospital take payments? We made payments when my kids were born, didn't have the cash. When we redo our bathrooms, all of our savings will be gone. We will be lucky if we have any money left over at all. So I'm putting cash into a house that I despise. I would rather it burn to the ground than spend $6000 building & renovating bathrooms. But I'm stuck in this house b/c of where DH works, and I can't afford to move. I so can relate. I am in the process of getting my deck renovated to the tune of $8,200. I had planned to do this within 3 years but since banister came loose, I decided to dip into my savings to pay for it. This will set me back. I also despise my house but I cannot afford to move. The thought of adding more money to this place just burns me up. But I am maintaining it...for now.
