All I suggested was that cobb salads might not be the best choice for andi who has decided to make easy choices to cut calories. I am apparently incorrect. It does happen occasionally.

I was literally trying to figure out what I was missing (since i do tend to modify just avout everything i order, i am THAT person) not prove anyone wrong

do you guys just use balsamic on your Cobbs or do you make your own oil and vinegar mix? I'd love to start making them but I'm stuck on the dressing. In non-cobb salad related news, making your own vinaigrette is fun and easy. I really get into it and tweaking the dressing to fit the salad/greens. For instance when I have straight arugula I will just lightly drizzle olive oil and champagne vinegar over the top with some freshly ground salt. For mixed greens do a more standard basal'ic: tsp of honey, tsp of mustard, salt and pepper, vinegar, stir it all up then whisk in the oil. If a salad has grains I'll do more of a citrus dressing. Just all so good and takes 2 mins to do.

Well I got all the veggies prepped and the chicken is cooking now. I'm checking on the chicken and power cleaning the kitchen in spurts so I can watch my documentary on Kurt Cobain at the same time. It's been a long day. I did 15 minutes on the elliptical and my regular Zumba teacher was back today and showed no mercy. I missed him.

Yesterday was good, plenty of steps, packed lunch and made dinner at home.
However if this dang migraine doesn't go away!! Day 9 and counting. I don't know how I ever made it through a year of having one all day every day.

A Cobb salad as it comes is full of calorie-dense foods that probably aren't best eaten at the same time, especially if someone is trying to be calorie conscious. Avocado is good, egg is good, even a little cheese can be good. But avocado AND egg AND cheese AND bacon? And we do not live in a universe where bacon is a health food! Lol. Obviously modifications make most things better for you, but when I hear Cobb salad my mind just goes to those calorie bombs most chain restaurants serve. I could be wrong. I will go to town on some avocado, rye toast, and tomato (and smoked salmon if I'm fancy). All good things, but that is also going to be a 400 calorie breakfast. Does anyone have sweetgreen near them? My favorite salad is the Rad Thai, filling and 365 calories. :-) In other news, I finally start PT next week! Kept forgetting to call last week and make an appointment. :-( I can feel a muscle imbalance so I get sore from that, but it still beats deep joint pain!

I'm calling a new neurologist today. The old one changed specialities and until this month Botox was keeping them at bay.

wvugurl26 Ugh, that sucks! A friend of mine gets Botox for hers and it works for her so far (not sure how long she's been doing it). She had to get surgery on a blood vessel in her temple last year and she had to stop the Botox for a few months. It was awful for her.

Just counted 15 more days until my next Botox appt. I guess I'm in the normal range for it wearing off but it's usually not so bad. And it would have been 2 days earlier but no the doctor just had to be out that day and no one else in the practice does Botox.

I have literally never ordered a cobb salad at a chain restaurant, so perhaps this is "what was missing" for me. The closest I get to eating at a chain is Specialties or corner bakery (salad/soup/sandwich shop) and what is served there isn't a "calorie bomb" I do think that everyone sharing ways to make a "healthier" version of a food is a good thing... I'll take that kind of contentious discussion any day if it helps me eat something I love in a more healthful way. Bring on the ideas, suggestions, recipes etc. I'd like to think that is one reason we are here!

So I brought my salad. I even remembered to bring the bag of almonds I bought in for snacks. I did however, forget to bring my water bottle for the gym. I suck. Oh well, I got 13K+ steps in on my fit it yesterday. Woot!

Good weight loss plan - get the flu and lose 5lbs because you have no appetite! It was 68 degrees Saturday and the baby and I were both miserable with fevers and couldn't enjoy the weather.

Resolve held out for the day, and getting a good start this morning. I had a homemade breakfast burrito for dinner last night which was heavier than I had been hoping, but it was 7pm and I didn't go nuts and eat.all.the.food like I typically do. I even went to bed at the same time the kids did because I knew if I got up I wouldn't be able to stop myself.

Well, I did swim today before coming to work. As a result I was 1) horribly late to work and 2) am STARVING despite the paczki, enchiladas, rice, beans, and multiple chocolates I've eaten today.
I don't understand how people work out in the mornings - HOW DO YOU MANAGE THIS WITCHCRAFT?!!?!?

I'm going to give it a go again, we'll see how it goes. I think the key will be a very protein heavy breakfast with fats. probably a model of breakfast and lunch being the bigger meals and dinner being light will help. With DH starting work soon, this model would likely work for us. RE: paczkis- boss brought some in, and without even thinking I ate one. I didn't eat the filling though, i don't really like jelly. that had to have saved me some calories... right? but i'm kind of mad i even ate it, it wasn't that great. I just took what was offered and shoved it in my face.

oh man, I loved the morning bootcamp workouts once I figured out that a tablespoon of PB would keep me from collapsing in a sugar crash during the hour. but I'm also a morning person once I settle into that schedule. so... as far as salads, #I'mwithCobb too! I think it's my go-to because I don't get a lot of protein normally. this is a no-brainer for me, especially putting black beans in it. so last night, I ended up running into a Chipotle for dinner while I was out doing errands. long story short, it wasn't quite off enough to have given me full-on food poisoning, but I still don't feel right (and likely won't until it's completely out of my system. sorry, TMI). my calorie counts will likely be on the lower side of bare minimum until then. hopefully that doesn't screw up my metabolism too much.

Not that I can speak now, but in the before children time I LOVED early morning workouts. It made me feel like work was just an errand that had to get done, but I was living life for myself. I've always loved to eat, and eat early, so I used to eat about 80% of my calories before leaving work. Light dinner and I was good. Now there is no way that I could get in a workout before work. Hell, I can't get in a workout after work or on the weekends, on days off... I don't want my salad. I don't really want my soup either, but think I'll go that route and try to push through.

Also, andi, I've been thinking about your calories issue. I know you don't want to track, but would it be possible to track for just a couple "typical" days? It might help you figure out where any trouble spots or foods are. Just a thought.

I definitely had to channel my spirit animal Dory today to "just keep swimming" and get to the finish. what about something like a little wrap. maybe shredded chicken or turkey on a small tortilla (multigrain or whatev) it isn't breakfast food, and it isn't the tastiest. but maybe it's a 200-250 calorie push to get you through. I'm someone who can just each cold baked chicken out of the fridge, sometimes i just grab some for a protein boost when i don't feel like eating.
