I LOVE Cobb salads but I have yet to master making one. Let me just say though that the Cheesecake Factory's Cobb salad should be what all other Cobb salads want to be when they grow up. The dressing, the avocado, the chicken, the bacon, the bleu cheese crumbles... all perfection. And I cannot for the life of me figure out that dressing!

She doesn't cook. Mostly because I haven't asked her too. And I absolutely love Cobb salads and could eat one every day and be perfectly happy. Maybe I'll have to do that. I can cook a bunch of chicken breasts ahead of time and bring the toppings separately and put them together at work. What kind of dressing do you use?I don't think I should do ranch every day. I don't like ranch or any creamy dressings. I'll typically drizzle a little vinaigrette over the top. the avocado ends up mashing and turning into a dressing of sorts as well. when I do Cobbs for the week, I use all of my little pyrex containers to load up the toppings. I'll chop chicken breast, bacon, avocado, hard boiled egg, tomato, red onion. drain and rinse a can of l/s black beans and saute garlic corn. I keep the greens chopped separately and just build the salad when I'm going to eat it, with whatever I feel like adding to it that day. I think I'd get bored if I did the exact same blend of stuff every day, so I change it up a little.

you can do the slow cooker rotisserie chicken leg quarters I talked about on the kid thread. Easiest. thing. ever. And you can either eat the leftovers as-is or use them in wraps or salads. Seriously - 5 minutes of prep, throw it in the slow cooker for 8 hours, then deliciousness. I also have a slow cooker chicken taco soup that is awesome and makes a lot of leftovers. I was thinking of doing this with chicken soup. I don't have to put noodles in it. Low salt and no carbs. Well, there are potatoes, but I consider that ok. I'll have to prep some stuff tonight. Yay! Wait, what?

I look at it as potatoes in soup better than French fries with a burger. Still carbs, but a better version. I'm not going completely carb free, I'll hurt someone. Ah, ok. The way it was worded just struck me, like potatoes magically don't have carbs. Note that if that were true I would eat all the potatoes forever and ever amen.

I'm hitting the gym heavy duty today. I also need to start thinking about diet. I feel like I have been upping the ante in the gym to no avail. I've been within the same 5 pounds forever. I don't eat sweets,or a bunch of crap. I've also cut out most soda. I don't want to cut all carbs together, but I need to figure out how to get them down to a minimum without wanting to cut someone for a piece of bread. Something has to give. Isn't the saying that weight loss is something like 80% diet and 20% exercise? Or something like that. I think working out has many huge health benefits, but weight loss isn't high on that list.
I did the very low carb thing (under 15g or so) for three weeks. It wasn't nearly as bad as I thought it'd be. It took a lot of planning though! I lived on bacon, cheese, meats, and a few select veggies. I didn't worry at all about fat or calories. I've modified it now to stay at about 50g of carbs daily and was still losing weight, so I've upped it to about 75g. You can eat a lot of variety on that and still get some bread and pasta, just not as much as maybe you're used to. So maybe a modified low carb would work for you? I do feel much better without all the bread and pasta.

whew, and then the rest of the Blue Bunny pint happened. Pretty sure I blew my calorie allotment today, but I did get an extremely good workout in. Tomorrow is leg/booty day, so lots of weighted leg lifts and some power yoga. The bad stuff is out of the house now, so that should cut down on the slip-ups.

When I order it from specialties it clocks in at 420 calories, cut that is with croutons and I don't eat those. I also made my own variety today. Grilled chicken, romaine, carrots, cucumbers, hardboiled egg, a little pancetta and dried cranberries... with balsamic. (Forgot ro get avacado at the store, booo) It was delicious, filling and not calorie heavy.

No dinner out tonight... had to put in a couple hours of work at home and I just wasn't too hungry... I toasted 2 corn tortillas (80 cals), slathered black bean hummus (45 cals) on them, topped with 2 scrambled eggs (140 cals) and added a few teaspoons of salsa verde (20 cals) Done and done for under 300 calories and less than 10 minutes of work.

I have a basic Italian vinaigrette from a restaurant near where I grew up, they bottle and sell the house dressing in this area. I keep a bottle in the fridge at work and another at home.

I don't make Cobb salads, but vinaigrettes are so easy to make. I make a few kinds of vinaigrette for salads often. Especially kale salads, they need some sort of vinaigrette to soften. One of my favorite salads to make is kale, quinoa, diced apple, diced yellow pepper, cranberries (Fresh Gourmet has dried cranberries that are only 5 g sugar per serving), just a little bit of gorgonzola, and champagne vinaigrette. Hmm, maybe I will make that for my lunches next week... Wishbone also has a decent line of EVOO salad dressings.

When a group of us when to lunch not too long ago, I got the Cobb salad and their menu said it was 500+ calories with the enormous ramekin of ranch they gave me with it. I bought Italian and balsamic vinegarette dressing to take to work instead of ranch. Even if it is more, my 2 packets of oatmeal is 260 calories that I have for breakfast.Yes, two and it's the apple cinnamon kind. Judge me if you want. I like it

This so what I'm thinking. I can't cut carbs completely, but I can cut down.

I think you're better off eating a burger and fries than a Cobb! depends on the cobb salad! plus, sometimes I'd rather just have a 500 calorie salad than a burger (turkey) and fries. Hey, sometimes you have to eat all the delicious calories! Hell, we went out to brunch yesterday (white people in an urban area, am I right? Lol) and my breakfast burrito had fries IN it for whatever reason. I think the guy who made it was stoned, since it came with fruit and fries on the side. I regret nothing!

The Cobb salad is a main-dish American garden salad typically made with chopped salad greens, tomato, crisp bacon, boiled, grilled or roasted chicken breast, hard-boiled eggs, avocado, chives, Roquefort cheese, and red-wine vinaigrette.
aside from the cheese and possibly bacon, what is so calorie heavy.
I mean... they generally aren't throwing 4+ slices of bacon in your salad (200 calories)
i eat this salad, minus the cheese and usually add in carrots and cucumber and even dried cranberries. Am i crazy that I find this healthy?
now I'm going to go cook a slice of bacon and peel a hardboiled egg for my salad tomorrow!

I'm making tacos tonight. With ground turkey instead of beef. We hardly ever eat red meat. I also have my eggs boiling so I can prep salad stuff for tomorrow. We'll see how I do with this.

The cheese, bacon, egg and avocado are all calorie-dense, plus dressing. I think as with most other things it comes down to portions. But for the most part... these are nutrient dense calories and eggs, avacado and cheese keep you satisfied forever. I was just trying to figure out why some of you thought the Cobb salad was the antichrist of salad, so I literally just checked to make sure there wasn't a hidden ingredient list I didn't know about. Also, I don't just look at the caloric total. Macro nutrients and vitamins are more important to me than the number. All calories are not created equal, we all know that.
