Weekly check-in:
Made it to the gym twice. Again...sigh. I just cannot talk myself into going during the week on my new schedule. Must do better!!!
Other than do better, is there anything you can do to make it easier on yourself to go or get exercise another way? Yes, but it mostly a matter of just quit being a slug lol. I do the stairs at work. I know it probably doesn't do much, but at least it gets the blood flowing. I live right near a green belt with trails, so if the weather is nice I have a great place to walk. I'll walk with a coworker at lunch too. Those don't really build muscle though.
It's mostly that I leave home by 6 am and get home around 5 pm and I'm tired and hungry and just don't feel like going to the gym. It's so much easier on the weekends. I need to pick one weekday and just go no matter what. And now I will. Tuesday is my day this week! I'm going I tell ya!

Bring an additional healthy snacks on Tuesday that can help you through a workout. Get some extra protein and healthy fat in to help tide you over.

Big salads prepped for lunch this week. We have dinner out tomorrow, at a pub... so I know that meal is a bust. Oatmeal, fruit and salad tomorrow should help offset that. This week is the last week at my current building. So next week, I will have a gym. Aiming for 3 days a week to start off. Had to buy new workout pants because my size Ms are all too small. New gym bag will arrive Monday (current gym bag has the name of my old law firm plastered over it.) I have to decide if I will do before work or lunch. Before work is preferable, since I will shower and I don't want to reapply makeup midday. Did fairly well with my steps... blisters disappeared quickly!
90 min. Restorative yoga tonight... I feel really stretchy now!

Bring an additional healthy snacks on Tuesday that can help you through a workout. Get some extra protein and healthy fat in to help tide you over. Excellent idea. I'll take an extra afternoon snack on Tuesday, and have Tuesday's dinner already prepared so I can just warm it up.

Does anyone know if the treadmill or elliptical is more effective? I don't know if I'm coordinated enough for the elliptical, but I can give it a shot. I am very late to the game here, and I hope someone else has answered by now.....but if you aren't coordinated, how do you handle the treadmill? at least with the elliptical, you're always touching the machine. I'm a distracted klutz, but actually a little more coordinated than the average bear otherwise, and have to hold onto a treadmill for dear life in order to WALK. sorry, just confused..

checking in for the night. I weighed in this weekend (mornings) between 207-209, will check in with a number tomorrow morning. I think I'll try to keep to a Monday morning "official" number moving forward.
this weekend started with a late start, getting home around midnight Friday after a minor crisis not long after I walked in Friday afternoon. Saturday, I felt like a lazy lump for sleeping in while my friend from out of town (who barely made it to wait up for me to say hi, I had left her a key) woke up early and ran 10 miles along the canal to continue training for her 1/2 marathon in a couple weeks. and oh, did I mention, this friend did a weight loss surgery about a year and a half ago, and has already lost 175 pounds in addition to now training for a 1/2 marathon?? yah.....feeling a little lazy right now.
anyway, this weekend involved a lot of walking, and more or less healthy eating. last night, friend and I went into Boston for a concert. the place we went for dinner was somewhere where, due to my specific food allergy and how their kitchen handles things, I can't eat anything fried. so I had a taco salad sans shell, and a couple margaritas. today, we did a not totally healthy brunch, and then she and I went for some geocaching w/lots of steps and a minor hike. dinner tonight was cooked at home, and mostly healthy as well. I'm sliding into a routine of eating twice a day, around the same times. this is a good thing, bc that's how I've always eaten on the weekends, but find myself trying to catch up during the week on 1st shift. now I'm on 2nd, and I feel like I can follow my own routines a little better and not force myself to eat when I'm not actually hungry.

Steps hit 75000 for the week. Food not so good. Weight about the same.
Goal for this week 1. 75000 steps. 2. Instead of eating between meals drink water.

I'm a little more coordinated than I give myself credit for. I am also clumsy. I walk or run on the treadmill and find myself start to drift off to one side or thing I'm going to trip as I'm trying to play with my phone or smash ear buds into my ears because they keep falling out. I've remedied the ear buds problem and gotten the over the ear kind, but I still don't like the treadmill very much. With the elliptical I can hang on and it's much better on my joints. And I hang on to the handle thingys so that I can work my arms a little as well.

Writing last week off and moving on. We did get a good walk in Friday with the puppy and he was badly in need of that walk. I feel so bad for him and wish he could have a new home. Poor baby is in the crate way too much.
I did bring lunch today so it's something to start the week off right. I have my one month follow up with the ENT Tuesday to see how the meds are keeping the acid at bay.

I'm hitting the gym heavy duty today. I also need to start thinking about diet. I feel like I have been upping the ante in the gym to no avail. I've been within the same 5 pounds forever. I don't eat sweets,or a bunch of crap. I've also cut out most soda. I don't want to cut all carbs together, but I need to figure out how to get them down to a minimum without wanting to cut someone for a piece of bread. Something has to give.

Friday-Sunday was a shitshow of junk. It was someone's birthday at work, so of course I had 2 mini cupcakes, a small cookie, and a slice of cake.
Saturday I had a whole wheat and flaxseed pancake with honey, bananas, and OJ. Lunch was alright, but dinner was a whole frozen California Pizza Kitchen BBQ chicken pizza. And I didn't work out, so... yeah. And let's not discuss the carb/sugar-fest that was yesterday.
So I'm back to tracking this week. I had oatmeal for breakfast, no snack yet, and will have homemade tomato basil soup (lowfat milk instead of cream and I reduced the butter), salad, and a few soup crackers for lunch. Brought a chocolate protein bar for the witching hour so I will be sustained enough to get in a good workout tonight.

can you bring a granola bar (or Kind, Luna, or something else similar) to have for a small breakfast to just kickstart your metabolism for the day? I don't eat for a few hours after waking up, but I do make sure I have coffee or a small glass of juice to get things going.
ok, I said I'd have a number today, and it's 208.4. I'm okay with that, considering last night's big (but healthy) dinner. it will work itself out in a couple days lol... and this morning, I couldn't take 2h to drive to/from the dog park and stay there for an hour, so we took a nice hour-ish walk around the neighborhood. pups are passed out now, and I just had a can of soup. need to get my butt in gear and shower so I can go to work.

Also, you may want to look into more light beers and lower-calorie hard liquors. I've seen Skinny Girl wines, but I've never tried them.

Have you ever tracked your calories daily to see what it is that you're actually eating? I mean, a can of soup can be 250 calories or 700 calories. Also, that's going to be a lot of salt. In terms of dinners, I'm sure "whatever I cook at home" varies hugely - be honest about your portion sizes and the amount of oil, cheese, etc. in stuff you're cooking. Alcohol also slows your metabolism down. So even if you're drinking low-calorie alcohol, it's still having an impact. But there are definitely people who spend calories on nothing but alcohol and just eat lettuce the rest of the time.

Don't think of it as obsessing over fitness/food - think of it as solving a mystery of where the calories are coming from.

Sometimes with working two jobs and the house and kids, it's easier to order a pizza or grab Chinese or something on the way home. you can try making one big thing to eat for a few days during the week. This week I made the tomato soup. I have romaine, spinach, and dressing for salads, so an easy lunch/dinner for a few days is soup and salad. Cheaper, faster, and healthier than takeout. If you have a free weekend day, you can do meal prep then.

I eat salads quite often, but maybe I can mix it up. I eat salad for most lunches.. Salad or soup, which I love. If you aren't gluten free, wraps are so easy. I make them regularly for DH. I cook a bunch of chicken breasts and then just make different combos. Ceaser, Mediterranean, italian, ranch, buffalo. Etc. I keep hot sauce, hummus, tzaziki, and dressing on hand. Romaine, carrots too. Then you can add and build flavors. Easy, pretty mindless and you get good veggies, proteins and fats. Man, I miss tortillas!!!

If you have a free weekend day, you can do meal prep then. that was last week for me. a batch of minestrone and a batch of chicken corn chowder (low salt, at least...) to choose from, as well as clamshell containers of baby spinach and kale to make salads. andi, can Thing2 cook? she can help you prep whatever you decide on for the batch prep on the weekend. one option I like to prep on weekends is Cobb salads. I'll chop and cook all the toppings, and package them up separately. then during the week, I can pick and choose what I want on my salad that day.

I eat salads quite often, but maybe I can mix it up. you can do the slow cooker rotisserie chicken leg quarters I talked about on the kid thread. Easiest. thing. ever. And you can either eat the leftovers as-is or use them in wraps or salads. Seriously - 5 minutes of prep, throw it in the slow cooker for 8 hours, then deliciousness. I also have a slow cooker chicken taco soup that is awesome and makes a lot of leftovers.

She doesn't cook. Mostly because I haven't asked her too. And I absolutely love Cobb salads and could eat one every day and be perfectly happy. Maybe I'll have to do that. I can cook a bunch of chicken breasts ahead of time and bring the toppings separately and put them together at work. What kind of dressing do you use?I don't think I should do ranch every day.

I eat salads quite often, but maybe I can mix it up. you can do the slow cooker rotisserie chicken leg quarters I talked about on the kid thread. Easiest. thing. ever. And you can either eat the leftovers as-is or use them in wraps or salads. Seriously - 5 minutes of prep, throw it in the slow cooker for 8 hours, then deliciousness. I also have a slow cooker chicken taco soup that is awesome and makes a lot of leftovers. I was thinking of doing this with chicken soup. I don't have to put noodles in it. Low salt and no carbs. Well, there are potatoes, but I consider that ok. I'll have to prep some stuff tonight. Yay!
