There IS no draft. Thete is the Selective Service and I see no reason women should not be required to register as well as men.
But there is no draft. Faux "news" gets it wrong again

Sum of you dudes are really ideological and into your semantics.
Why do we have a selective service? So when there is an actual "draft" we can pull people for it. The selective service is "prep" for a draft
But I guess that makes the story totally false or "faux"
If you TRY to look at things with an open mind you MIGHT be surprised from time to time

Faux "news" gets it wrong again There is registration for the (potential) draft, and I took that pretty F'n serious when I had to do it! They can change that little nicety at any time. I just wanted to make that point clear. I'm sure you took it seriously when you registered (as one should). But it is a far cry from registering knowing that if your number were called, you'd be on a bus headed for boot camp and likely Vietnam. It would not be easy to change - there'd be a huge political backlash. As long as the military is getting enough recruits with volunteers I think it is highly doubtful that the draft would be reinstated. But it was a very big deal. It hung over the minds of every young man approaching 18 (as well as their mothers)

On the subject of registering for the draft, I think it's incredibly stupid that my special needs DS was required to register. We made sure it was done, as it IS the law, but he'd be the last person who could safely handle a gun. (In fact, I wrote that information directly on his draft registration form, but doubt there was a place where they could enter into their computer base that this young man has autism.)

"Chicks"? Did you mean to say "women"? Pretty sure he meant to say "chicks" (anything more insulting would violate the Cocs) Apparently some think that, since the sexual assaulter who demeans women was elected, that it's just fine to openly display their misogynism. All that silly PC stuff is history.

Not to pick on the one who started this thread, I HAVE noticed some who have felt free to release their "inner a$$holery" since the election. Sadly, this includes someone who married into DH's side of the family, who I used to respect.

I think selective service registration is a waste of money. It has been almost 50 years since we had a draft, yet we still require young men to register. How much money is spent on this? I hear public service adds for young men to register. Before you get financial aid for college you have to register. My youngest son started college at 17, we had to fill out a form verifying that he was not required to register yet. He registered when he was 18.
The idea that we will suddenly need large number of soldiers to fight a ground war is pretty outdated. I don't think that is what the military is like in today's world.
But if we do get to a draft, it should be both men and women. I don't believe women should necessarily be in ground combat military positions, but there are plenty of positions in the military that women can do just as capable as men.
