I didn't have any pain with the IUD insertion. I actually had it done over my lunch break at work. I did feel pregnant for several weeks after and was thinking "this is going to suck if this is how it always is", but that went away and besides the balding thing it was great.

The spirolactone comments are interesting. The dermatologist (or maybe it was my OB can't remember) put me on that for the hair loss. I only took it for a short time though because I was sure it wasn't doing any good...and I think it was really expensive? Again, can't remember. All this was going down at the same time as the craziest shit with my ex and it's so hard to tell if things were stress related or hormonal from the IUD or what was going on.

I've had my Mirena for two years, never had kids and never will have kids. I will absolutely get another one in three years. I had a lot of cramping after getting it inserted but after that it was fine. I did have to up my spironolactone dosage a little after getting off BCP and getting Mirena but that's not a big deal to me. I did make a mistake in scheduling my appointment to get the Mirena. I should have went when I was on my period and didn't. Holy ouch! Mine was on my period and still hurt. Interesting on the spirolactone. My face has broken out like hell in the last month. Haven't ever been like this in the four years I've been on it. Wondering what's going, though I'm crossing my fingers that it seems to be dying down. I want to say I started getting painful breakouts again a couple of months after getting off the pill and getting Mirena. They would die down but I was getting breakouts when I shouldn't have. Dermatologist suggested I try taking 150 mg a day instead of 100 and that did the trick.

It's generic so is cheap for me. It's actually used for hair loss and excess growth. On a higher dose I was actually losing a bit of hair.

If another one pops up after the two I have go down maybe I'll see if bumping up to 100 again helps.

I think I still have a nearly full bottle in the cupboard at home.

Neither of the girls have kids and they both have them. It makes me feel better than expecting them to remember pills.

another vote for Mirena, I'm on my third one now. Got the first one when I was 25 because the progestin only pills I was on were not regulating me at all (regular pills gave me migraines), doctor suggested I try it and I loved it. It hurt like a MFer that first time, so bad I broke out in a sweat and got dizzy, and cramped pretty badly for a week or so, then it was fine and I basically never got periods. Second one the insertion didn't hurt as much and 800mg ibuprofen took care of the cramping for a few days. I had it removed in August last year and got pregnant in October, so no issues there. This one I have now I didn't even feel, but that's because I'd just given birth. I did bleed longer after insertion this time, but I think it's settled down.

Zib like you I'm from when the dinosaurs roamed the earth lol. (Kidding!!!)
These days having had kids is not a requirement for an IUD. It was in our time, but it's not anymore.

DD is on the Merina and had some cramping for the first few days, but the peace of mind at not having to remember to take a pill, is remarkable. She was on Depo before this and likes it, but her migraines are returning.

Sam hasn't an IUD for quite awhile. The risk of getting pregnant with an IUD placed properly is 99.99999999% or something like that give or take a few nines. The mirena can be affected by certain medications so it's wise to abstain or use secondary birth control methods if you are taking anti biotics. The paragaurd doesn't have that issue since it contains no hormones. I think you may have your risk and effectiveness mixed up here (it would be a pretty damn good device to help infertile couples otherwise)
On topic but also totally off it → whenever I read IUD I think TESLA (look up what their logo looks like)

I know someone who got pregnant with an IUD so no IUD for me. She had to have weekly ultrasounds to make sure it wasn't poking the baby. He ended up fine and full-term but that story was enough for me to say "no way" to an IUD.

Her IUD might've been out of place too so if your daughter has a follow-up appointment to check it make sure she goes.

Ok, thank you. I'll make sure she does.
