Another thread reminded me of an event from many, many years ago.
If I was at a conference and there was a discussion about something completely new coming to the market, would it be considered insider trading if I bought company stock due to that knowledge?

Not an authority, but would doubt that in such case it would be "inside trading". Items discussed at a general conference would likely be considered public knowledge (unless it was a tightly closed, private "insiders" company (non-public) conference.

Thanks! It was a small conference for using specialized software.
Didn't think it could be, but Investopedia's definition made me wonder.

No, it would not. Plus your trade would have to be significant to ring any alarm bells.
