Time to fess up. When you were left home alone, what is the worst thing that you ever did, and did you get caught?
Worst thing I remember was one time home alone with my brothers. We were goofing off in the living room and did something that caused the curtains to fall down. The anchors pulled right out of the wall. We tried to fix it with super glue. First time didn't work because the holes in the wall were so big, so we did it a second time and finally got it the curtain rod to stay up. Never told my parents. They still live in that house, and I wonder if they ever noticed when they replaced the curtain rod....

Can you be more specific? I'll be typing for the next few weeks the way it's asked now. LOL! Your holes in the wall remind me of the party I had when my parents and little brother's went to the beach for the summer. Yes. I said summer which is why I'll be typing for weeks. The party involved sneaking my best friend into my bedroom window the night before as she wanted to get started early and help me get ready for the party too. Broken vases, stains in the furniture and carpet, booze bottles supplemented with water some with dye... I was left home because I worked and was responsible. <<snort>> And people wonder why I never had kids. Forgot to answer the did you get caught part. All of my really good friends stayed after and helped me clean up and fix stuff. I wasn't clever enough to add dye to the cream de mint bottle that some people got into. Months later mom wondered how her vase got "cracked" and a few other mysteries that had arisen that she didn't recall happening so she suspected a party. I can't remember if she blamed the 2 older step brothers or me but I was the one that had all the friends and would be the one to have it being the social creature I once was. I'm sure I fessed up eventually. When I had my own place and was safe.

I led and still lead a dull and boring life. I think maybe the worse thing I ever did was to try out a cigarette - it was worse than all the second hand smoke I was exposed to so decided it wasn't worth the effort (to be 'cool') - my dad and brothers all smoked.
That said, my older brothers (who were suppose to be 'watching' me) did all sorts of good stuff - they would emulate 'professional wrestlers' and throw each other around a room sometimes going thru a wall. There's no way to disguise the busted plaster/drywall when a 180 pound teenager (as in 15/16 yo and older) is body slammed into it. Happened more than once over time - and we all got lessons on how to repair and repaint walls.
Then there was the time they decided to burn up their model airplanes and other models (I managed to save Frankenstein and the Creature from the Black Lagoon from the pyre) they did this outside - it created a huge black oily cloud of smoke (which of course they stood in) - when that wasn't enough they started throwing on other stuff (and gas) on the fire and almost set the garage on fire.
Alcohol was a common everyday thing - so drinking the booze wasn't something you could only do when unsupervised so I'm not counting that in this...
You know, I didn't NEED to do anything bad/dangerous - I just had to kick back and watch my brothers do it. I'm really good at learning from other's mistakes.
I think my mother kept waiting for me to do terrible things once my brothers moved out - but I never did.

Curious George here! Tore to to pieces the alarm clock-mechanical kind with two bells and a litle hammer on top- because I needed to find out what makes it tick! First one was blamed on "it was old" factor. Second was "a piece of junk" but the third one didn't hold anymore so I made physical contact with mom's broom handle! She's still reminding me of the incident 40 years later.

I set fire to a paper sack to watch it burn. Fortunately, I did it in the kitchen sink since I knew you had to put it out. I was about 8.

One year, during Christmas, mom was sick as a dog and dad was at work. Although mom was home, she was sick enough that we were pretty much on our own.
Anyway, we got something called Gack or gak for christmas. it was popular in the 90's, but it was like slimy putty that you could play with. My sister and I ended up sticking out down each others pants. Mom was so pissed, it got everywhere, in our buttcracks and everything.

I'm with POM..the worst thing I did when left alone was throw parties (I was left alone a lot). My house was the party house. I almost got caught once because the idiot that I was dating got into a car accident on the way home...dont' feel bad because it wasn't like he hit something. They got out on the mountain road to pee and he forgot to put the break on...damn car rolled down and hit a tree! So he got in a lot of trouble but I didn't
At 15 I stole my moms car but nothing happened.
Unlike POM I wasn't smart enough to not have kids...trust me when I tell you that I have gotten smacked by Karma many times with my oldest!

As a young kid, my brother and i threw snowballs at the kitchen window and broke one of the (thankfully) exterior panes. Why?!?!?
In middle and high school, it was alcohol, pot, sex. Got caught once only because my mom read my fricking diary and learned I lost my virginity in the back seat of someone's car. Still pissy about that.

When I was 8 I put my mom's metal pot in the microwave. Not knowing you couldn't put metal in the micro. I think it caught fire. I don't remember. I do remember the handle melted. Good times.
When I got older in high school it was alcohol and sex.

There was the time that my best friend and I wanted French fries and chocolate shakes and we didn't feel like going to the Eckerd's drug store soda fountain/diner area. So I decided I could make them myself. We sat there drinking our shakes and running our mouths waiting for the oil to heat. Did I mention we are chatty? Next thing we heard was "WHOOW!" (is that the sound of something catching on fire in a big way?) We looked over to see the frying pan completely on fire almost to the ceiling. Mom was out a dish towel and there was a mysterious burn spot in the driveway. We never did get our French fries!

I was about 14, with some friends over at my best friends house while her mom was at work. We were bored so I thought I wanted to learn how to drive. I asked my buddy's older brother, he was nice but kind of a loser. Didn't know he was a bit wasted and stoned. As soon as I backed the car into reverse I mixed up the brake and accelerator. I went right through my bff's neighbor's fence. Worst feeling in the world, I thought my life was over!
The two brothers stayed to make a report with the police after neighbor's called the cops. My parents never found out about it because the neighbor decided not to press charges. I was paying for that fence a while, though.
I just don't know how I made it through childhood and young adulthood alive sometimes!

When I was about 9 yrs old, I went to my friends house, while her parents were at work. My friend and I, and her 2 older brothers got rough housing. I threw a pillow at her brother and hit her mother's lamp instead. It broke. I apologized a million times, to my friend and her brothers. Her parents never said anything to me, about it. The worst thing I ever did, was get drunk. I was 16 and was home with my 18 yr old sister. The 2 of us got drunk, but not together. Only did it once, when my parents were gone. Never got caught. When I was 16, or 17, 3-4 of my friends and I worked at the same fast food joint. Several times we got drunk together, on the way to work. The last time we did it, the night manager figured it out and tried to catch us. We were late getting to work, so we had called and said we had a flat tire. When we got to work, he asked my friend, which tire it was (privately). Then he came and got me. He took me to an outside seating area and asked me which tire had gone flat. I laughed and commented on him trying to catch us in a lie, because I didn't know what to say. Just then, my friend came running out of the restaurant and yelled to me "Right front!" I turned to the mgr and said innocently "The right front tire."

It had nothing to do with alcohol, drugs, or sex. It was just fire and boredom and idiocy, which is hard to fess to since I was completely alone at the time. I can't even remember now if I was 13 or 19, but I damn near set the woods on fire and I had to call the fire department.
They found the house, dumped less than 500 gallons of water on the blaze (there was no need to find a hydrant, what was in the firetruck did the trick) and wrote up a report that blamed the fire on carelessness instead of idiocy but I was probably more scared when they left than when they arrived.
I considered hiding the melted garden hose that I had briefly and ineffectively used to fight the fire and heaping more leaves around the charred area of the forest but figured that it would only get me into more trouble. My uncle was involved with the volunteer fire department that had responded. No matter how well I hid the evidence of the fire, that gossipy little brat was going to eventually mention it to my parents.
So I fessed up and told my parents that while left alone I had gotten up the ambition to rake leaves. Then I got the idea to set the leaf pile in the driveway on fire. Then I got the idea to wrap potatoes in tinfoil and set them in the embers. After eating the potatoes, the idiotic idea of moving the ashes (and a few glowing coals) out of the driveway and into the woods struck me.
When I first told them this story, my mom claimed to be relieved that the fire department knew how to find our house and she asked no questions regarding what the heck I was thinking or whether it actually happened like that. Two decades later, I've begun to have my doubts as to whether she actually believed a word of my story despite it being entirely true. I was quite the goody-two-shoes as a youngster and had a strange tendency to be naughty only while alone. I wouldn't succumb to peer pressure if I caught even a whiff of guilt or guile, but when I was alone without anyone to tattle on me or talk me out of bad ideas, I was kinda dangerous.

Older brother is 18 months older than me. I have a younger sister and brother two and three years younger than me.
Parents always took off two weeks in the winter to head to Florida (from Massachusetts) and other week-long vacations. By the time the younger siblings were in the upper grades of elementary school and my brother and I were in high school, the parents let us be without baby sitters/adults watching over us. So there were always parties at the house. Plus it didn't help that my parents and some of their friends made their won crappy wine. So when the parents were away, we and our underage friends drank the wine stored in the basement.
One time a friend of mine was riding on the hood of another friend's car and that car got into an accident with another car in front of our house. My friend landed on the other car and took off into our back yard. A neighbor saw the friend run into our backyard and later told my parents. We all denied knowing anything about it even thought after running into our backyard he came into the house.
Another time a couple of friends brought a rather sketchy acquaintance over to the house when the folks were away. Unknown to me, the sketchy person stole a set of house keys from our home which also held car keys. This guy stole one of our cars which was parked in our driveway. I truthfully told the folks I knew nothing about the missing keys or the stolen car. I only learned five or so years later who did steal the keys and car.
I think I have told this story here before. When I was a senior in high school (a Catholic high school), my younger sister was a sophomore and younger brother was a freshman. Parents were away for their usual several weeks in winter. I was hearing word in the school hallways that my brother and sister were going to hold a party at the house one weekend and the rumor was that the news of the party had spread to other local high schools and 250-350 plus high school kids were expected at the party. I could not allow that to happen.
So I went to the vice principle (Sister Maurice John) who I knew pretty well and asked her for help in stopping this party. She said no problem. She called my sister and brother down to her office and told each of them she had heard about the planned party and that it better not happen. She told them both she was going to personally stop by the house and make sure there was no party happening. The party was cancelled out of fear the vice principal would tell out parents.
Thanks you Sister Maurice John. Disaster averted.

Damn, I was really good as a kid cuz I got nothin! Me too. The worst thing I did was call a boy I was crushing on in middle school without permission and reading inappropriate things. I also started calling therapists to see if I could find a good match for my mom. Not the worst thing, but not exactly appropriate for a tween, either. I'm a rule follower and a black and white thinker. Plus, I had parents that followed through on all their consequences, and I needed to make sure I got myself to college, because college was my way out. My college was pretty tame too. I had sex, but didn't get into the hook up scene. Did didn't drink much, and no drugs. I did try a cigarette when a good friend of mine turned 18. I thought I was quite the badass that day.

Someone explain to me again how people were so responsible back when, that they were absolutely fine being left alone for hours by age 8.

17. Parents went away for weekend. My girlfriend came over and we were out driving around at 2am. pulled over by cop, just a warning, asking what we were doing. boys came over and spent the night. Parents never knew - mine or my girlfriends. Not sure about the boys parents.

I didn't do anything. I wanted the hell out of the house and I wasn't going to screw that up. I didn't want to lose the precious few freedoms I did have. I guess I was a candidate to be a train wreck in college but again I wasn't screwing up and ending up back at home. I had plenty of fun and still graduated with honors in four years.

When I was a junior in high school my parents went away for the weekend. I had a small gathering of about 8 people, including myself (4 girls, 4 guys). We got drunk, played strip poker and then rolled 3 houses in the neighborhood. I got busted because my parents noticed random things in the house were not exactly where they should be. They also found my bra behind the TV and someone's sock was found in the sofa cushion.
