So I notice ever since Colbert made "Truthiness" a word and got famous that everyone has jumped on the bandwagon....but most of them irritate me
Like the news programs calling a "Press Conference" a "Presser"....for years it was ok to say Press Conference, now all of a sudden it's gotten so hard to say and they had to shorten it to "presser"
HGTV has the "reno" (short for renovation)......and My wife loves Flea Market Flip show on HGTV and they call that "upcycling" / "upcycle"-find a flea market bargain, fix it up a bit / paint it and sell it for more money......

I'm hoping it's died a horribly painful death by now, but "on fleek." It's not new, but I've always hated the term shabby chic, as it seems to mostly describe overpriced stuff that looks like it was left to mold in a dilapidated shed for years, quickly hosed off and put up for sale. Shortening words tends to annoy me in general. Like vaca for vacation or soz for sorry. Pressie or sammy. Words I'd expect a toddler to use before mastering full sentences. Why yes, I do believe I am a curmudgeon.

For some reason, I hate the term "I'll reach out to them."
Our HR group uses this all the time. Instead of the plain jane "I'll call them" or "I'll text them" they are "reaching out to them"
I don't know why this bothers me so much, but it does. It implies so much more effort than just calling them, I think, but all you really did was call them.

I have never heard that term & have no idea what it means.
I hated the word spendy for expensive things. It seems to have stopped being so popular thankfully.
I don't know if it really bothers me but when did pedophile become pederast? It seems to be the new term.

Bouchie....this is a new one for me and I hate it...apparently bourgeousie (SP) like snooty or posh. It was kind of said to me passive/aggressively, like haha no not really.

Pederasty refers to sexual relations between adult and adolescent males. Pedophilia is a sexual interest in prepubescent children of either sex. They're not interchangeable, but are sometimes misused.

I hate "Sammy" for sandwich... I don't know exactly why but it makes me want to pick up my Shovel of Anger and smack in the head whoever used the non-word.
Upcycle is an old word - I've used it/heard it several decades ago... maybe it was just used by a smaller group of people? or maybe the art of recycling something unuseful into something useful via repurposing OR cleaning up/re-painting has become mainstream?
I also find it annoying when someone asks what "meds" you are taking if you mention you aren't feeling well... or if you say you have a pulled muscle or a head ache they ask if you have "meds" or need some?
When did OTC pain relievers become "meds"? Or any OTC 'symptom reliever' become a "med"? ADDED: Or maybe they are offering me something like Oxycodone or Valium or something not OTC? Maybe everyone runs to the doctor (or local clinic) for a prescription for their aches and runny noses? Not sure...

I dislike "fixer-upper" or "handy man project" when referring to a building/home. Why don't you call it what it is: a place that needs a lot of work or a box of matches.
It is not a fixer upper if you have to redo everything from scratch and is not a handy man project if you need to hire people to do it because is beyond your skills and knowledge in the matter. But I guess is easier to call it that and sell it to someone that read on line or watched the shows about cheap remodels. It's a sure way to get suckers to bite and put them in debt while trying to fix it.
If someone calls it "outdated" or "in need of repair and maintenance" I'm fine with it because they admit that needs work but saying "fixer upper" is a sign that something is hidden.

I hate prego for pregnant. Probably because Prego is my spaghetti sauce, and I really don't want to link my dinner with all the messiness of pregnancy and childbirth. Of course, I hate preggers, too. Just because I think it sounds dumb. Tiny - I also hate sammy. However, I love "whatevs" - because whatever is such a long word, and I use it a lot. I am tots on board to shorten that bad boy.

Because there are so many ways to contact people now - email, telephone, text, IM, messaging, face-to-face, and probably a million other ways. But yes, we could say "I will contact them." To me, reach out indicates your intention is to pop out one non-invasive form of contact, and if they never respond, it is their fault and you have absolved yourself of all responsibility. The verb 'contact' implies you have an actual interaction with them. You could send a one line email and technically, you have reached out, but if that is the total communication, have you really 'contacted' them?

As for the everyone running to the doctor, my last supervisor was like that. If I said I wasn't feeling well, she wanted to know if I went to the doctor. My response was "No, this to shall pass and if it doesn't then that is when I will see a doctor or the funeral director". Needless to say, she stopped asking after awhile.

There are so many things that I hate and if I list them all then people are going to think I'm a real grump, but you asked!
-When people say "Grab a drink", "Grab a bite", or "Go for a swim", I don't know why, but I don't like the sound of it.
-I can't stand when young moms say the word "Mamma" like "This mamma needs a break". (I also hate any joke revolving around wine, yoga pants, or target. It's just overdone, stop.)
-When people say "Love, Love, Love!"
-Reco (for "recommendation")
-When people post a picture and say "And then this happened"
-Really hate anything revolving around #squadgoals
-I hate when somebody in the public eye posts something and there are all these comments that say things like "OMG this is SO ME" or "This is SO something I would do".
Probably a lot more that I can't think of.

Probably a lot more that I can't think of. I hate all the videos of the middle aged white people rapping about being parents, or being over 30 (or 40 or whatever.) That is so overdone. But, I notice new people become parents all the time, and suddenly they discover the humor in the same ol' jokes about parenting. So, I try to ignore it and let them have their fun. The only one I ever really thought was funny was the Toyota ad - it was the very first one I saw. Every one after that is just a re-hash.

"microaggression" - admittedly more funny than annoying "selfie" "bestie" "game changer" "Godwin's Law" - people inexplicably believe that invoking it in any conversation where Nazis are mentioned makes them appear funny or intelligent "tweet" "[he/she/I/it] was all like" - and overuse of "like" generally
Finally, although I've only ever heard it on television and radio, people who actually say "hashtag ..." at the end of a sentence. If you ever find yourself saying things like "... hashtag just kidding" or "... hashtag hope the boss doesn't find out" at the end of your sentences, please get somebody strong to smack you until you're broken of the habit.

The over use of the word "like" and the word "really". A lady in our office her favorite phrase is "and I am like really" said in a tone of complete disbelief.
When DD was a teenager she was starting to pick up the "like" habit. I told her that I didn't have time to listen to her until she could say what she needed to say with out using the word like. It took about a month but we got that habit broken.

baby mamma baby daddy Anything and everything over done, or used. Especially things that sound unintelligent. I know it was already mentioned, but "Hashtag" really bugs me. Terms, codes or phrases specific to a particular company, or field (aren't known to the general public). If I'm calling to find out if the gas has been shut off at a particular location, don't tell me an L4R has been issued for the address! Or that you see a C3 on the account.

What does "hashtag" stand for anyway? Why don't they just call it pound since it is that? They changed the name to repurpose it for new use. It doesn't "stand" for anything. It is used on social media as an indicator that the phrase can be used as a search tool. You can go to twitter and search for #oldpeoplehatehashtags and you will find tweets from many people all over the world, from all different kinds of backgrounds with tweets on their feeling about old people who hate hashtags. Some of them will be funny. Some will be belligerent. Some will be uncalled for. Some might be a story about some poor Grandma trying to get on-board. But, there will be a variety of thoughts. It is actually quite a genius way to organize and utilize such a ridiculously random set of recorded thoughts. The problem is - if you just see one instagram picture with 28 hastags on it, and you have no intention of searching for any of those topics. You think they are annoying. But, for example, we went to a wedding and every person there could post stuff and use the hashtag they designated, and the pictures are still available today. It was cool to get up the next morning and see everyone's perspective on the wedding, and pictures from all sorts of people. Better than the disposable cameras that might not get developed and the pictures rarely get shared.
