As if it wasn't already a badge of shame to be the kind of voter who is an uncertain, weak, go-with-the-flow person. The kind of person that really can't articulate a position, because they can't or worse- won't- fight for it so they say "social issues" when they really just mean abortion. Say it, "I support keeping abortion legal". There, was that so hard? So, some outfit took this poll (and I'm a marketer so I know this tactic) for the sole purpose of saying the name "Charlie Sheen" along with "Sarah Palin" because it's a classic means of devaluing a brand, or discrediting a person. Turns out "Independent" voters- have revealed something I've always suspected: They're idiots. Independent voters in this poll anyway. They would support having Charlie Sheen in the White House over Sarah Palin... news.yahoo.com/s/yblog_theticket/20110317/ts_yblog_theticket/indy-voters-would-rather-have-charlie-sheen-in-the-whI know it's supposed to be a jab at Sarah Palin, but it's really more revealing about who independent voters are. Maybe they'll finally be self-conscious about looking stupid by being associated with this poll, than they are about being pro abortion?

Well PBP I must say your post does not display a level of high intelligence. Your attempt at categorizing all independents as stupid paints a vivid picture of your reasoning ability. Maybe you would like to restate your point so it makes some level of sense.

bills,
when i got the first email, i was wondering, can he sell any tickets? what is the attraction? is it a speaking engagement?
then when i got the email regarding a second show having to be added i figured it's gonna be a train wreck and many people want to see it.
you are right about "taste". some people(in govt) thought a photo of a crucifix in a jar of urine was "art".

Well then I say it's good to be an idiot. Without even knowing Sheen's political ideology, I think I'd rather beat my head bloody against a brick wall rather than see either of them camping out in the White House (way too much controversy surrounding them for either one to be effective), but what do I know...I'm just an idiot. BTW, that pic in the OP is rather disturbing, IMHO.

palmbeachpaul-what exactly line of business are you in? Some how you are tied in (directly/indirectly) to some type of mulching business. Then you state the other day you might be going to Japan for a while (several months (or a couple of years?)) to help out during this nuclear crisis doing some insurance consulting work.
Would you also help with marketing Japan too?

... you are right about "taste". some people(in govt) thought a photo of a crucifix in a jar of urine was "art". Piss Christ is a 1987 photograph by photographer Andres Serrano. It depicts a small plastic crucifix submerged in a glass of the artist's urine. The piece was a winner of the Southeastern Center for Contemporary Art's "Awards in the Visual Arts" competition,[1] which is sponsored in part by the National Endowment for the Arts, a United States Government agency that offers support and funding for artistic projects. ... The piece caused a scandal when it was exhibited in 1989, with detractors, including United States Senators Al D'Amato and Jesse Helms, outraged that Serrano received $15,000 for the work, part of it from the taxpayer-funded National Endowment for the Arts. Serrano received death threats and hate mail, and lost grants due to the controversy.[8] Others alleged that the government funding of Piss Christ violated separation of church and state.[9][10] The work was vandalized at the National Gallery of Victoria, Australia, and gallery officials reported receiving death threats in response to Piss Christ.[11] Supporters argued that the controversy over Piss Christ is an issue of artistic freedom and freedom of speech.[11] en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Piss_Christ It is art (and I am not in govt).

Heh. Has anyone ever really looked into the validity of online polls ... especially, polls on sites like Yahoo? It's a joke! We know how people behave here. We know how people behave on other message boards. We know the internet is full of trolls, and trolls love to mess up polls, along with the other things they enjoy messing up. I've yet to see an online poll I'll take seriously unless it's on a highly controlled site.

Topic: Professional Opera 1) Is it art? Clearly yes. 2) Is it art worth experiencing? Not for me. Topic: Local youth theatre 1) Is it art? Well yeah okay it is. 2) Is it art worth experiencing? Very much so for me. Topic: Piss Christ 1) Is it art? Yeah 2) Is it art worth experiencing? Not for me.

Um, the article also says that republicans would pick sheen over obama. By your logic that would have to mean that republicans are idiots also.
Not sure at all what you are proving except that some people really hate palin & others really hate obama.

never been much of a Charlie Sheen fan anyway, so I wouldn't pay to see him. I have however paid to see both Sam Kinison & Andrew Dice Clay back 'in the day'.

Maybe you would like to restate your point so it makes some level of sense. Not ALL independents. I specified the ones in this poll. I guess I would further clarify by specifying those independents that chose Charlie Sheen for the White House over former AK Governor, Sarah Palin. I've said so before, I'm no fan of Palin myself- but c'mon. I guess part of the problem is when you ask a ridiculous question, you get some ridiculous answers...which leads a thoughtful person to ask...why ask a ridiculous question. This is supposedly a serious polling outfit, but they're slightly beneath the average stupid message board poll question with this one.

palmbeachpaul-what exactly line of business are you in? Some how you are tied in (directly/indirectly) to some type of mulching business. Then you state the other day you might be going to Japan for a while (several months (or a couple of years?)) to help out during this nuclear crisis doing some insurance consulting work. Would you also help with marketing Japan too? I do a little of this, and a little of that. I owned a landscape materials business while back which I sold most of (retained a small stake for awhile), and finally sold out of altogether. I used that business, and equity in my home to start investing in real estate. I started out as a bird dog, did a few rehab flips, I started and ran the largest entrepreneurial real estate club in Chicagoland for about three years, and did a pretty nice "wholesale" business during the boom- mostly contract assignments. I parlayed that cash into a buy-and-hold rental property business in low cost of living areas within about a three hour drive of Chicago, and I have some property in South Florida as well. All during this time (really, since before the mulch business) I have been a student of direct selling and direct response marketing. I have operated in a consulting capacity-- mostly taking on direct response copywriting jobs-- in that field for the last 7 years or so. I'm also a Texas licensed claims adjuster and I work exclusively independently as a catastrophe claims adjuster. What can I say- I've got the time, so I try a lot of things. Some things I'm good at-- like real estate, and marketing. Other things I'm not that great at-- like running the mulch business-- and some things I'm good at, but just don't like to do as well-- insurance claims. I do stuff like claims mostly when I see an opportunity to raise capital. I only need about $7K to $15K to buy another house. Another house is another $6K a year- minimum. So, when Ike and Gustav blew up to Chicago from the Gulf and all the adjusters were in Texas, I did 70 claims (wind, hail, water sewer backup mostly) in 45 days and pocketed almost $20K. Anyway, today I sold a $7,000 copywriting job-- got half up front.

All I can say about that is it's a good thing Christians didn't react to it the way Muslims did when someone published cartoons of Mohammed... Ok, I know I am being dense here...but, was this statement made in seriousness or sarcasm? I thought sarcasm at first & then workpublic added a wink to his post, which I took as adding to the sarcasm. But, the pbp karma'd the post & given his religious views I think he was taking the statement seriously. Was I the only one that was confused by this?

If your only sources of news are liberal media outlets, maybe you didn't hear about what happened when a Danish newspaper published cartoons of Mohammed in 2005. Muslims went berserk and killed dozens of people. Danish embassies in three countries were burned and the cartoonist and others involved received myriad death threats. It's likely many liberals have never heard this story, as the lib media in the US did their damnedest to bury the story quickly and quietly. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jyllands-Posten_Muhammad_cartoons_controversy

ok, that explains my confusion. I was thinking of the potrayal of mohammed in south park last year, which led to a bunch of death threats & couldn't figure out why christian death threats were not as bad as muslim death threats. Which led me to assume it was sarcasm.
I had forgotten about the problems back in 2005.
