Hello everyone,
I am very eager to join this group and start paying down some debt. I was a long time member of the iVillage Debt message board for years. That's been gone for a few years and I am glad to meet a new group of like minded folks! I want to be debt free by 50 - in 6 years - with a credit score over 800 (at 750 now)
Here is some basic info on me:
Lives near Boston, MA 44 years old Divorced now for 5 years (was the nicest divorce ever) Live with my cousin and a my sidekick a little 12 pound dog Love to travel (mm hmm see where my debt weakness is) Strong credit rating at about 750 (life goal to get it over 800!)
Debt $33,000 (my stomach turns when I read that) - this does not include my student loans but I am on track to pay that off in the next 5 years.
Loan $16K - debt accrued during marriage that I am paying off Credit Card #1 - $4,200 ~10% interest Credit Card #3 - $9,800 ~ 10% intrest Store Cards $3,000 - 0% interest for 12 months still PLAN: Leave as is since at 0% ad pay off over next 12 months Balance on my summer vacation : $1,150 (I thought about cancelling this to save the $ but I can't at this point)
Questions: 1. Do I pay off the lower CC first or get the higher one down under 50% of balance 1st 2. I think my order is: - vacation balance - card 1 - card 2
Anyway that is a lot for one post but I am determined to do this!

Thanks for the warm welcome - I am a little confused as to how to get started at the Women in Red Racers - I am from Boston so I think I'd be joining the WIRR - Northeast. Seems like some housekeeping is going on which is great.
Can someone point me to the right page for posting my original amounts and where the excel template is?
$33K plus student loans to pay and I WILL do it all before I turn 50 (giving myself a nice 6 years!)
Look forward to meeting you all!
Michelle

WIRR is a great place to start, but as chocolate lover said, I'm no help either to help get you started there. I will recommend you check out Smart Spending, usually called SS. A lot of money saving ideas from recipes to what're your having for dinner.

Welcome Michele. No advise, but I'll be your cheerleader! Thanks Happy Prose. How long have you been a member here? I am hoping it keeps me a little more accountable for paying down the debt. Feel a little overwhelmed at getting started here - there are so many threads! How do you keep up?

What at is the interest rate on the $16k loan? $1,150. Vacation balance -- is this the amount you have left to save or to pay off?

Welcome, michelle12! Sorry I'm a bit late on the uptake here. I'm nursing a sick cat. I am, however, sure you'll find the help you need here. Folks here are friendly but will speak their minds. That's a good thing when you're trying to get your financial matters under control! We're very glad you've come to us.

We had a guy, rats can't remember his name, but he owed a boat load and got it down with a lot of encouragement and it was exciting to watch his progress.
